While looking for good food at Sokcho Central Market, I stopped by Hwangbuja Twigim (황부자튀김) with my husband and Arin. We took away two sets: Set 1 with king prawn and red snow crab meat, and Set 12 with nurungji squid sundae (squid stuffed with crisped rice) and Abai sundae (local Korean sausage). We got to try several kinds of fried food and sundae at once, and the king prawn still had a crisp fried texture even after takeaway. Apart from the food, though, there were also things about the shop that felt disappointing. On the other hand, the foreign staff members were genuinely kind when taking our order, and that really stayed with me. I’ll share both the good and disappointing points based on my own visit.

When you visit Sokcho Central Market, you want to buy little bits of lots of different foods rather than just one thing, right? My husband, Arin, and I looked around together and decided to get takeaway from Hwangbuja Twigim.

We chose Set 1 and Set 12. Set 1 included king prawn and red snow crab meat, while Set 12 included nurungji squid sundae and Abai sundae. In the end, we got to try two kinds of fried food and two kinds of sundae all at once.

## How did the takeaway king prawn feel?

The first thing I tried was the king prawn. Fried food can become soggy quickly when you take it away, so I was most curious about its texture.

That said, I don’t want to overstate it by saying it was the best in Sokcho or that everyone absolutely has to try it. More accurately, when I took it away and ate it myself, the crisp texture of the fried king prawn was what stayed with me.

## Why we chose both nurungji squid sundae and Abai sundae

The reason we chose Set 12 was the nurungji squid sundae. Since we were in Sokcho, I wanted to try squid sundae at least once, and I was curious because this version included nurungji. It also came with Abai sundae, so we could alternate between the two kinds.

With my husband, Arin, and me eating together, this way of choosing what each of us wanted suited our family better than buying a large amount of just one item. ## Kind staff, and service that felt disappointing during my visit

Separate from the food, it is hard to leave out the service experience. When I visited, I repeatedly noticed a man in the shop speaking to staff members in a tone that sounded irritated.

As I was there with my family to buy market food, continuing to see that did not make me feel comfortable. In contrast, the foreign staff members were truly kind.

They responded calmly when we ordered and, from my perspective, guided us without anything uncomfortable. What stayed with me was how differently the atmosphere could feel depending on the person serving customers, even in the same space.

I do not mean that the shop is always like this; I am only writing about what I personally saw and felt on the day I visited. If you are curious about Hwangbuja Twigim while looking for food at Sokcho Central Market, the items we ate were simple.
