## In short

Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch is a makguksu restaurant near Sokcho Beach in Sokcho, Gangwon. We shared deulmemak, pollack sashimi buckwheat noodles, potato pancake, and 17,000-won solo suyuk, with the unseasoned deulmemak lingering in my memory. A satisfying first meal before or after a beach walk.

## A makguksu restaurant one minute from Sokcho Beach

I’m going to introduce the first delicious thing we ate on a trip to Sokcho with friends. Sokcho has so many famous foods, like mulhoe (spicy raw fish soup), squid sundae, and dakgangjeong (sweet crispy chicken), right? We decided to get those things to-go for dinner. So for lunch, we went for makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), which was simple but still filling.

The place I found was Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch (속초탑골막국수 본점), a popular Sokcho spot. It is especially well located for a Sokcho trip because it is just one minute from Sokcho Beach. Having potato pancake and suyuk (boiled pork slices) alongside the makguksu made it even more satisfying.

## What about the location and parking?

As you can see on the map, Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch is incredibly close to Sokcho Beach. It is only about a one-minute walk from the beach, so it was easy to find, too.

Another thing I loved was the parking! Public Parking Lots 1, 2, and 3 are right nearby, so it is very convenient even if you drive. They give you a two-hour parking voucher after your meal. Being close to Sokcho Beach and easy to park at made this such a convenient place to eat.

> The notice said they are open on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays unless something unusual comes up.

Pets are allowed, but carriers and travel bags must be fully closed, and stroller covers must also be fully zipped before entering. Once inside, you cannot take your dog out or provide water or treats. Dogs that bark continuously may not be admitted, so please follow good pet etiquette for everyone. 🐾

## The exterior and interior atmosphere

Here is the exterior of Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch, a makguksu favorite near Sokcho Beach.

I drove to Sokcho that day. Rather than parking right in front of the restaurant, I parked elsewhere so I could look around Sokcho Beach too, then walked over. But it was closer than I expected! Strolling along while taking in Sokcho Beach, I arrived at Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch in no time. I thought it was a great location whether you have a car or are traveling on foot.

When I visited this Sokcho makguksu place, it was around 2 p.m.?? There were only about three tables occupied then, but once we sat down and ordered, it was almost full. Hahaha. Seeing that, I thought, wow, maybe this really is the real deal.

There were lots of celebrity signatures on the wall, and it turned out mukbang YouTuber Heebab had visited too. It made me weirdly happy, haha. With customers continuing to come in and those famous signatures on display, I was getting even more excited about the food.

They bring out the initial side dishes, and you can use the self-service bar for anything else you need. There was even a microwave at the self-service bar just for baby food, which made me think it would be a really good place for families with babies.

There was also a photo booth that made me oddly happy! As we were paying and leaving, I spotted it beside the entrance. Such a perfect way to make a memory, right? We took a photo together before we left.

After eating our fill, I noticed the signs even more clearly: two hours free at nearby Public Parking Lots 1, 2, and 3, plus an old-school ttangttameokgi hopscotch game. Hahaha. There was also a notice saying people in military uniform get free king dumplings. Military folks, go get your king dumplings at Sokcho Topgol Makguksu~

When I paid, I saw this menu board at the counter with all the prices listed together, so I took a photo of it too.

## Ordering deulmemak, potato pancake, and solo suyuk

We ordered one deulmemak, one pollack sashimi bibim makguksu, one potato pancake, and solo suyuk. It was a makguksu restaurant, but when I saw the photos of the potato pancake and suyuk, I simply could not resist. Hahaha. Since there were several of us, we ordered a bit of everything. You order using a tablet.

Sauces are set out on one side, so add mustard or vinegar if you need them! The basic side dishes were yeolmu kimchi, shredded radish, ssamjang, and salted shrimp. They gave us small plates too, and they were so pretty that I had to take a photo. Hahaha.

As the dishes started coming out one by one, the table filled up and it already felt so reassuring just looking at it. As they served the food, the owner told us that the tablet had instructions on how to eat everything, so I diligently read the tips on it, haha. The first dish to arrive was the potato pancake.

### Potato pancake shared like pizza

You know potato pancake needs that dipping sauce, right? The onion and chili in it were absolutely the key. The potato pancake at Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch was made with finely shredded potato rather than thickly ground potato. And I was surprised by how huge it was.

It was seriously the size of a pizza, hahaha. They even give you a rolling pizza cutter?? We cut it into eight slices and shared it just like pizza.

![Potato pancake divided like pizza](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-beach-deulmemak-suyuk-meal/sokcho-beach-deulmemak-suyuk-meal-20-10lmz-900.webp)

Dipped in soy sauce and topped with onion and chili, it was tangy, lightly spicy, and so delicious. Potato pancake can feel a little rich as you keep eating it, but eating it with the onion and chili completely prevented that. We enjoyed it right to the end.

As we picked away at the potato pancake, all the other dishes came out together. The food arrived surprisingly quickly.

### Solo suyuk was perfect for three to share

When we ordered, my friend said we should get the large suyuk, but I am so glad we did not. There was a lot, and I thought we would have had plenty left over if we had ordered the large. With our other dishes, the solo suyuk was just the right amount for three people to share. The pork had no unpleasant smell at all and was pleasantly chewy; wrapped with the dried radish strips and garlic that came with it, it was heavenly.

### Add perilla oil to the pollack sashimi makguksu

This was the pollack sashimi buckwheat makguksu. The tip said to mix in the fruit dongchimi (radish water kimchi) served with the makguksu, taste it, then add the seasonings on the table—perilla oil, mustard, vinegar, and sugar—to your taste.

We did not add much at first; we mixed in only about two ladles of dongchimi, and it was perfect. And the one thing I really want to recommend here is perilla oil! We each poured some onto our small plate and drizzled it on according to our taste. A little perilla oil made that nutty aroma pop. With the nutty perilla oil added to the pollack sashimi and buckwheat noodles, it tasted so much better. If you order the pollack sashimi buckwheat makguksu, definitely try it with perilla oil! Those tips are there for a reason!!

### Deulmemak I finished without any seasoning

Finally, I am introducing the star of Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch—their main dish, deulmemak (trademark application filed)! As befits a Sokcho deulmemak mecca, the flavor was incredible.

The tip said to mix it thoroughly and eat it as it is without adding any other seasonings, then finish with a little dongchimi once only a small amount of noodles remains. I wanted to taste its original flavor first, so I tried it with no seasoning at all, just as instructed. Personally, I think deulmemak is so delicious that you can enjoy it all the way through without dongchimi.

It was packed with nuttiness, and the aroma was amazing. Perilla leaves were truly the perfect touch with that nutty perilla oil! I am sure it would have been delicious with dongchimi too, but I did not even save any to add because I loved the original flavor so much and ate it all as it was. Hahahahaha. Next time, I will try it differently with dongchimi.

## A satisfying first meal in Sokcho with friends

It was a spontaneous Sokcho trip with friends, and we came away having eaten such a generous spread of different dishes. And my favorite was, of course, the deulmemak! That flavor that needs no other seasoning has really stayed with me. I will say it again: this is truly a great Sokcho restaurant! A deulmemak mecca.

Because it is so close to Sokcho Beach, it is great for a meal before or after looking around the beach, and the convenient parking also makes it a good stop during a Sokcho trip. With a children's meal and even a dedicated microwave for baby food, it is wonderful for families with children; and because there are so many dishes to share, it is great with friends too. Such a satisfying first meal!!
