## In short

Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon is a Korean restaurant in Bongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang, Gangwon, serving noodles made from 100% Pyeongchang buckwheat near Phoenix Park and the Bongpyeong Buckwheat Flower Festival grounds. A group shared boiled pork, buckwheat pancake, yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl), yukhoe bibim makguksu and deulgireum makguksu (buckwheat noodles with perilla oil), then poured chilled broth over the perilla oil noodles to turn them into a cold noodle soup for two flavors in one bowl. Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon was a good pick for eating well while dodging the festival crowds and parking.

Today I'm posting about Migayeon in Bongpyeong, a great restaurant near Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang! It's also close to the Bongpyeong Buckwheat Flower Festival grounds, so definitely stop by! Parking at the festival site is tough and it's so crowded that eating there is really hard.

- Closed regularly on Wednesdays
- Plenty of parking nearby
- Large dining room but waits possible

It's in a great location for anyone planning to visit the Bongpyeong Buckwheat Flower Festival, good for before or after the festival! We arrived at an odd time and only had to wait for about four parties before getting in! Turns out the owner has received a Korean Food Master honor — already had a good feeling about the food.

### Is Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon comfortable with a baby?

The inside of the restaurant is really spacious and clean. No problem at all going with babies. The kitchen was kept spotless too, so you can eat with peace of mind! There are tons of menu photos on one wall, and since I like ordering by looking at pictures, that suited me perfectly haha. By the way, why do you have to chew it 100 times?? Is it so it's nuttier??

## What buckwheat does Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon use?

What's special about Migayeon, a great restaurant in Pyeongchang, Gangwon, is that it uses excellent 100% Pyeongchang buckwheat noodles, dishes that capture Bongpyeong's four seasons, and clean, premium hanwoo beef from the Daegwallyeong Pyeongchang livestock cooperative! On top of that, the hand of buckwheat cooking master Oh Suk-hui adds even more, so I came away having eaten clean, deeply flavored buckwheat dishes. We went as a group and ordered quite a lot~

### Boiled pork with buckwheat sprouts and homemade ssamjang

First up, boiled pork (suyuk)!! Eating just buckwheat noodles alone might feel a bit plain, right~ so we ordered boiled pork alongside it, and the result was total satisfaction! I actually wanted to eat more yukhoe (raw beef) too, but held back since I'm pregnant.

![Buckwheat sprouts served alongside the boiled pork](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongchang-bongpyeong-perilla-oil-makguksu/pyeongchang-bongpyeong-perilla-oil-makguksu-12-1e4n0-900.webp)

Eating the tender, springy-chewy boiled pork together with the buckwheat sprouts and homemade ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste), I thought, ah, this is the taste of Bongpyeong!!

### Buckwheat pancake: an appetizer as fresh as a salad

Next, the buckwheat pancake (memiljeon) you can't skip when talking about Bongpyeong!! Fried thin and soft so well. There seems to be a bit of seasoning on the cabbage inside, because it's delicious even without any extra sauce! Practically a salad-level appetizer, so I really recommend ordering it! It's also great wrapped up with the makguksu (buckwheat noodles)!!

### Yukhoe bibimbap: the wrap vegetables steal the show

Next, yukhoe bibimbap~ It was so neatly put together, with every vegetable clean and in perfect balance with no excess. I personally love bibimbap with radish in it, and this one had radish, so I enjoyed it even more haha. And the unusual thing is they give you wrap vegetables alongside it, and that's quite the special treat~ Bibimbap with wraps! It felt almost like a mountain-vegetable set meal.

### Yukhoe bibim makguksu with raw beef

Next, today's star, yukhoe bibim makguksu~ Needless to say how fresh the yukhoe was. The buckwheat noodles are thin and nutty, so great for slurping down! The sauce also had just the right balance of tang and sweetness, not overpowering.

## How to turn deulgireum makguksu into cold broth makguksu

Next up, deulgireum makguksu (perilla oil buckwheat noodles) disguised as a cold noodle soup!! At first you taste it as deulgireum makguksu, but then they pour in the accompanying chilled broth, and that's when the cold soup (mul-makguksu) version begins!! You get to enjoy two flavors at once, so it's a win! On top of that, sprinkling on the prepared dashima-cho (seasoned seaweed vinegar) makes the flavor even better! The dashima-cho is sold separately for ₩15,000, so if you like it, might be worth buying some.

![Deulgireum makguksu with the chilled broth on the side](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongchang-bongpyeong-perilla-oil-makguksu/pyeongchang-bongpyeong-perilla-oil-makguksu-21-1xmut-900.webp)

![Cold mul-makguksu after pouring in the broth, with dashima-cho](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongchang-bongpyeong-perilla-oil-makguksu/pyeongchang-bongpyeong-perilla-oil-makguksu-22-17gg8-900.webp)

I think the bibimbap and the cold mul-makguksu were what I enjoyed most. That refreshingly cool yet subtle, plain flavor made me think, ah, this is the true taste of buckwheat!! haha. Came to Pyeongchang for a cool getaway in the hot summer, and everything we ate was delicious and new — such an enjoyable trip! Travel really is about food! Can't skip the delicious food~~
