## In short

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu & Sundubu Kalguksu Main Branch is a three-story makguksu (buckwheat noodle) and sundubu (soft tofu) restaurant in front of the Sotdae Bridge at Gangmun Beach in Gangneung. For a late brunch the writer ordered deulkkae sunbap (perilla soft tofu with rice) for 11,000 won, deulgireum makguksu (perilla oil buckwheat noodles) for 11,000 won and avocado buckwheat gimbap for 8,500 won, tasting handmade Chodang tofu and house-made noodles in one sitting. The window seats were already full, but even without the ocean view Gossi's was a satisfying local spot that welcomes dogs and provides baby chairs.

## Where is Gossi's Donghae Makguksu Main Branch in Gangneung?

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu Main Branch sits right in front of the Sotdae Bridge connecting Gangmun Beach and Gyeongpo Beach. For a late breakfast I picked makguksu (buckwheat noodles) — you've got to eat a bowl when you're in Gangneung, haha 😋 Plus Gossi's makes its own tofu in-house, so I could try two things in one meal — two birds, one stone 👏👏

This Gangneung local favorite, Gossi's Donghae Makguksu, is a building with three whole floors 😲 No wonder it's also famous as an ocean-view restaurant!

## Is Gossi's dog-friendly? Parking and baby chairs

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu Main Branch is a dog-friendly restaurant, so you can eat with your pup 🐶 It's run flexibly across the 3rd floor or the annex depending on the day. That said, you can't put your dog down on the floor, so you'll need to seat them next to you or hold them while eating 😅 🚗 Parking is free for 90 minutes total, and if you need to extend by 30 minutes after the first hour, just ask at the counter — they even have a parking map posted!

Being a Gangneung favorite, they've got plenty of baby chairs ready 👶 And since there's a set on every floor, you don't have to go up and down to grab one 🎉

The restroom is on the 2nd floor inside! It's gender-separated, a bit dim but clean ✨️ The women's room even had two stalls 👀

## Side dishes, seating and the self-service corner

As soon as you sit, cold water and the three basic side dishes get set right away — yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), mu kimchi (radish kimchi), and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi). It looks like they set the sides down ahead of time around lunch peak, when there are so many customers 😵 I genuinely can't imagine how busy that gets 💦

Gossi's Donghae Makguksu is famous as an ocean-view restaurant 🏖 but sadly when Bonnie visited, all the window seats were taken, so we sat at a regular table. Window seats are for two, regular seats are for two or four — a staff member kindly told us to sit comfortably at a bigger table, so my mom and I got to relax at a four-person table 🤗 The staff were quick on their feet in a busy restaurant but still kind, with a bright vibe overall 🫶

There's also a self-service corner! Once you finish the three basic side dishes, you can refill from here 😖

Next to the self-service corner was an origin-labeling board, plus an allergen guide with an English version for foreign visitors! The red pepper powder and the kimchi in the buckwheat pancake are both domestically sourced 🇰🇷

## Ordering at the kiosk and the 5% review discount

At Gossi's Donghae Makguksu Main Branch, you order from a kiosk at each table by looking at the menu. I filmed the menu on video 😊

![Table kiosk menu screen](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-11-gdehq-900.webp)

When you tap a photo of a dish, it shows detailed descriptions plus what other customers ordered most, or best-pairing combos — handy for anyone still deciding!

There's also a review event going on! Post on Instagram or leave a Naver receipt review and get 5% off your meal — don't miss it 😉

You can even see tips on how to eat makguksu deliciously! I read through it carefully to try it out once my dish arrived 👀✨️

What Bonnie ordered ❣️

- Perilla sundubu rice (deulkkae sunbap) ₩11,000
- Perilla oil makguksu (deulgireum makguksu) ₩11,000
- Avocado buckwheat gimbap ₩8,500

![Sign showing how to enjoy makguksu deliciously](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-15-1esek-900.webp)

## Perilla soft tofu with rice, 11,000 won: how the handmade Chodang tofu tastes

Deulkkae sunbap is perilla soft-tofu rice! It comes with either noodles or rice, and either spicy or perilla flavor ✌️ 🍚 It comes with a side of white rice too, and the nutty smell just fills the air 😋

The tofu wobbles like pudding 🤤❣️ Since the makguksu and buckwheat gimbap are both cold dishes, this sundubu is perfect if you're craving something warm!! It'd be great to come back for in winter too, all warm and cozy 🫶

The sundubu is handmade Chodang-style, so it's soft and delicate — and paired with a rich, bone-broth perilla soup, the nuttiness doubles 😵 The seasoning is just right, not too strong, so it was easy to eat as a breakfast dish 👍

![Perilla sundubu rice served with a side of white rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-16-6uv2g-900.webp)

## Avocado buckwheat gimbap, 8,500 won: one of 11 keto gimbap options

Honestly, I was more curious about the buckwheat gimbap than the makguksu 😖 Gossi's Donghae Makguksu has a patent-pending buckwheat keto gimbap lineup, and there were so many kinds! Having to pick just one out of 11 made me stop and really think it over 🥺

![Menu of 11 kinds of buckwheat keto gimbap](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-17-giydk-900.webp)

![Signage about the patent-pending buckwheat keto gimbap](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-18-gwjty-900.webp)

So the one I picked was avocado buckwheat gimbap 🥑 Wow, and I really nailed the choice — inside there's something like pickled plum that adds a slightly salty note, but the creamy avocado wraps around it so nicely that it never gets too salty, just nutty and balanced! Plus it's packed with crunchy, fresh cucumber 🥒 No carrots, which made this carrot-hater very happy 🥳

![Cross-section of avocado buckwheat gimbap with cucumber](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-19-1s61t-900.webp)

## Perilla oil makguksu, 11,000 won: trying it with the broth poured in

There were several kinds of makguksu, but I went with the most basic — perilla oil makguksu! You've got to eat the classic first...😋

![Bowl of perilla oil makguksu at Gossi's Donghae Makguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-20-f0b00-1200.webp)

![House-made noodles with a thickness between thin and medium wheat noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-21-1o2yx-900.webp)

The noodles were somewhere between thin and medium thickness — not so soft they broke apart, not chewy either, just the right springiness ✨️ The perilla oil used in this makguksu is apparently 100% domestic organic perilla oil, cold-pressed by master producer Kim Yang-hui of Yangyang 😲

![Signage about the domestic organic perilla oil used in the makguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-22-12zqb-900.webp)

Halfway through, the staff told me to try pouring in the broth, so I did as instructed 🤗 Once the noodles loosened up in the broth, the seasoning mellowed out a bit and it took on a refreshing quality! The broth on its own was fairly salty, but once the noodles mixed in, it felt like they'd been rinsed 🤔?! I'm firmly Team Bibim (mixed, not soup-style), so the brothy version wasn't really my thing — but it was still the best perilla oil makguksu I've had 😘

![Perilla oil makguksu eaten with broth added](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-23-ht22v-900.webp)

## The first-floor register and souvenir corner

Being a Gangneung favorite, plenty of celebrities have clearly stopped by — the wall was packed with autographs! Even weightlifter Jang Mi-ran had been here 👀✨️ Whenever I see autographs at a great restaurant, I always wonder — how does the owner recognize all these people? Running a restaurant really isn't for just anyone 🧐 You need a sharp eye...!

![Wall covered with celebrity autographs](https://img.superchart.com/images/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap/gangneung-goshine-donghae-makguksu-avocado-kimbap-24-v8hk2-900.webp)

You pay downstairs on the 1st floor, where they also sell buckwheat noodles and flour, Gangneung's specialty kkamak-jang (dark soybean paste), domestic perilla oil, pollock sikhae (fermented pollock), snacks, and even alcohol 🎁 It looked like great stuff to pick up as souvenirs, haha.

Next time I want to sit by the window and enjoy the clear East Sea view while eating the rich, nutty pine nut sundubu makguksu 🤤

## Final verdict on Gossi's Donghae Makguksu Main Branch

A Gangneung restaurant that nailed every dish we ordered 🫶 I went in for the famous makguksu, but it turns out it's also a great sundubu spot in Gangneung... and the keto gimbap was surprisingly delicious too?! The exterior looks like a typical tourist-trap restaurant, but the flavor is straight-up local-favorite quality 😵....👍 This was the meal my mom was most satisfied with in Gangneung, haha. No ocean view, no regrets — officially a great-tasting restaurant! Definitely a place I'd love to visit again 💯🥳
