On a cool, breezy evening, I found myself craving something warm and hearty, so I headed to Eolkeuni Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Bupyeong Station Branch, right at the entrance to the theme street near Bupyeong Station.

## What the room and seating are like at Eolkeuni in Bupyeong

Inside, the restaurant has about 48 seats, and the tables are spaced generously, which makes it a fine choice for a get-together or a family meal. These days, I find myself drawn less to flashy, trendy spots and more to places where you can just sit comfortably and chat with the people you're with.

This was one of those places — not just for the food, but for the relaxed atmosphere and the owner's warm hospitality. As soon as we walked in, the owner greeted us cheerfully and took care of everything from seating to the side dishes with real attention.

### What's in the self-serve corner and the table-side drink fridge

The self-serve corner had kimchi, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), stir-fried fish cake, green chili peppers, garlic, and ssamjang neatly laid out, and the whole restaurant felt well kept and clean.

I also noticed a dedicated drink fridge tucked between the tables, stocked with alcohol. It looked like a great setup for pairing a cold bottle of soju with gamjatang or ppyeojjim.

## Stone-pot ppyeojjim: how tender is the pork bone meat?

What I ordered that day was the stone-pot ppyeojjim. A little while later, it arrived sizzling on the hot stone pot — big chunks of pork spine piled high with bean sprouts and scallions, looking seriously appetizing.

What I loved most was how tender the meat was. Just a light touch with the chopsticks and the meat slipped right off the bone — and it wasn't dry at all, staying moist and juicy.

![Meat dipped in the special soy-mustard sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/bupyeong-stone-pot-bone-stew-dinner/bupyeong-stone-pot-bone-stew-dinner-16-1f15y-900.webp)

### How spicy is the sauce, and what does the soy-mustard sauce add?

The seasoning on the stone-pot ppyeojjim wasn't overwhelmingly spicy — more of a savory heat with a faint hint of sweetness. Paired with the crunchy bean sprouts and tender meat, the flavors and textures worked really well together. Dipping the meat and bean sprouts into the special soy-mustard sauce added a whole different layer of flavor beyond the stew's own seasoning.

### The steamed egg pot served alongside the ppyeojjim

The steamed egg (ttukbaegi gyeranjjim) served alongside the ppyeojjim was a great match. Soft, fluffy, and mild, it was perfect for a spoonful in between bites of the spicy stew. Alternating between the fiery stew and the gentle egg felt like a natural way to reset my palate. The owner also checked in on us a few times during the meal to see if we needed anything, which made the whole experience even more relaxed.

## Finishing with stone-plate fried rice in the leftover sauce

![Fried rice stir-fried on the stone plate with leftover sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/bupyeong-stone-pot-bone-stew-dinner/bupyeong-stone-pot-bone-stew-dinner-18-1or5a-900.webp)

And here's why it would've been a shame to leave right after the ppyeojjim — the fried rice!! They stir-fry rice, seaweed flakes, kimchi, and sesame oil into the leftover sauce right on the stone plate, and as it sizzles and the toasty smell rises up, my chopsticks kept reaching for more even though I was already pretty full.

I especially loved scraping up the crispy rice stuck to the stone plate. The nutty crunch of that crispy layer, combined with the sweet-spicy leftover sauce, felt like the perfect way to close out the meal.
