Whenever I'm craving jokbal in Gwangju, I always head to Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch, my go-to Yongbong-dong jokbal restaurant. Here's my review of properly enjoying the half-and-half jokbal Friend Set for 3!

Walking through the Yongbong-dong food alley, I couldn't resist stopping in — this jokbal place even does a fire show while giving the meat that charcoal-smoky flavor, haha.

I visited on a weekday before 6pm and there were already customers — that's how popular this place is, haha. Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch has a large screen inside, so I'd also recommend it as a Yongbong-dong spot to watch live baseball or soccer broadcasts, haha.

## How the half-and-half Friend Set for 3 is ordered

At Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch, I chose the Friend Set, recommended as half and half for 3. I split it between charcoal-grilled jokbal and fire-grilled spicy jokbal, and added white sauce, curry sauce, and flying fish roe rice balls.

After a bit of a wait, the half-and-half jokbal arrived — wow, the color was on point!!

The fire-grilled spicy jokbal and the charcoal-grilled jokbal were served together, and the portion was massive. Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch is serious about flavor and picky about ingredients, and the visual really lived up to it, haha. Alright, let's dig into the half-and-half set at this Yongbong-dong jokbal restaurant, haha.

## Charcoal-grilled jokbal with makguksu noodles

The charcoal-grilled jokbal at Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch is properly charred over real charcoal, giving it a deep smoky aroma. I paired it with lettuce wraps and spicy-sour makguksu.

First up, the charcoal-grilled jokbal, properly charred over real charcoal! The plump jokbal looked perfect, and one bite confirmed it — that trusty smoky jokbal flavor from this reliable Yongbong-dong jokbal spot, haha.

Personally I love wrapping things in lettuce, so eating it with makguksu and lettuce wraps together was super satisfying~

The spicy-sour makguksu was mixed up nicely and paired well with the jokbal — a fundamentally perfect combo, so this flavor pairing is also one you can trust, haha.

And a rice ball to cleanse the palate!

## How spicy is Level 1 fire-grilled jokbal, and does white sauce help?

I ordered the fire-grilled spicy jokbal at Kkankkanhan Jokbal Yongbong Branch at Level 1, and personally it wasn't spicy at all. If the heat feels like too much, dipping it in the new white sauce cuts the spiciness way down.

Next, on to the spicy jokbal! This fire-grilled spicy jokbal was also full of smoky flavor with a spicy kick. It was Level 1, so personally it wasn't spicy at all —

and turns out Kkankkanhan has a new menu! Great news for spicy food lovers — they now have Level 2 spicier jokbal and Level 3 extremely spicy jokbal. I'm planning to try Level 2 next time, and take on Level 3 eventually, haha.

From the sauce options, I dipped the jokbal in the new white sauce, and it cut the spiciness way down — if the spicy jokbal is too much for you, this white sauce comes highly recommended, haha.

I also dipped it in curry powder and ate it with lettuce wraps, and it was all delicious — everything here is enjoyable no matter how you eat it, which is why I love this Yongbong-dong jokbal spot, haha.

Kkankkanhan is always delicious no matter when I visit — a genuine go-to spot I trust every time. If you're looking for a reliable jokbal restaurant to share with family and friends, I highly recommend giving it a try, haha.
