## In short

Geumseong Jjukkumi is a griddled baby octopus (jjukkumi) restaurant at 81 Sukgogae-ro in Namwon, Jeonbuk, a short drive from the Gwanghallu pavilion. With a 6-year-old in tow, the writer ordered jjuksam (baby octopus with pork belly) at medium spice with a cheese topping, a handmade king pork cutlet and two servings of fried rice, and found the adjustable spice levels, baby chairs and self-serve side dish bar easy for a family meal. Geumseong Jjukkumi is worth a return visit whenever a craving for spicy griddled food strikes in Namwon.

Visiting Namwon and craving good griddled food! This is a trip report from Geumseong Jjukkumi, an octopus specialty restaurant serving all kinds of griddle dishes from dakgalbi (spicy chicken) to jjuksamsae and jjuksam.

## Where is Geumseong Jjukkumi, and where do you park?

Geumseong Jjukkumi is at 81 Sukgogae-ro, Namwon, Jeonbuk, South Korea, and it's especially close to Gwanghallu, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a place to eat while sightseeing in Namwon.

It sits on a quiet street, and parking was available roadside near the restaurant.

## Inside Geumseong Jjukkumi and its group rooms

![Main hall inside Geumseong Jjukkumi](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-02-cbjab-900.webp)

![Table with tablecloth at Geumseong Jjukkumi](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-03-41shj-900.webp)

![Countryside-style interior of Geumseong Jjukkumi](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-04-zrmkd-900.webp)

The interior had a cozy, countryside restaurant feel. There were tablecloths on the tables — apparently an unspoken sign of a good local spot.

![Group room seating in the annex at Geumseong Jjukkumi](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-05-1lgpm-900.webp)

I thought there was only the main hall, but there were actually three group rooms in the annex that could hold larger parties — it looked great for staff dinners or gatherings too.

## Geumseong Jjukkumi menu and how the spice levels work

![Griddle dish menu board at Geumseong Jjukkumi](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-07-1y5hk-900.webp)

Geumseong Jjukkumi specializes in griddle dishes built around jjukkumi (baby octopus), including dakgalbi, jjuksamsae, and jjuksam. With so many options, we debated a bit and ended up ordering jjuksam.

And here's the best part about this Gwanghallu-area restaurant — the spice level is adjustable! You can choose mild, medium, or spicy, so even someone like me who can't handle spicy food much could eat without worry.

### What's on the self-serve side dish bar?

The basic side dishes provided could also be refilled as much as you like from the self-serve bar.

![Side dishes laid out at the self-serve bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-09-15jm7-900.webp)

While we waited for the jjuksam, the side dishes started arriving one by one. There was more variety than I expected — grilled eggs, candied sweet potatoes, dumplings, salad, bean sprout soup, and more.

Eating out with a kid can be tricky when the main dish alone isn't quite enough for them, but with this many side dishes coming out, my daughter could pick at something in between. Oh! And they also had a baby chair ready, so I'd recommend this place to families traveling to Namwon too.

## How does the jjuksam taste at medium spice with cheese?

![Medium-spice jjuksam served on the griddle at Geumseong Jjukkumi](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-12-1ceqf-900.webp)

Finally, the main dish — jjuksam!! It's a griddle dish that combines octopus and pork belly, and it looked like a hearty combo just from the sight of it.

![Jjuksam griddle with octopus and pork belly](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-13-1wm0u-900.webp)

It had been a while since I'd had griddled food out, so watching the jjuksam sizzle right in front of me really got my mouth watering.

![Jjuksam being stir-fried on the griddle](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-14-z6xcy-900.webp)

Even though there were quite a lot of other customers, the owner came over and stir-fried the dish on the griddle himself to get it ready to eat.

![Cheese being melted on top of the jjuksam griddle](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-16-10i10-900.webp)

He kept turning it over so all the ingredients mixed evenly, and finally melted the cheese on top — so we didn't have to touch a thing before digging in.

What I liked most was that even a spice wimp like me could eat it comfortably without breaking a sweat. Usually asking for mild can mean the flavor turns bland, but the mild version at this Gwanghallu-area spot still had great savory depth — it exceeded my expectations.

Wrapping a bite up with the savory melted cheese made it even softer to eat. We added a cheese topping, but there were also options for ramyeon noodles, udon noodles, rice cakes, and flying fish roe.

![Close-up of well-seasoned octopus](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-18-uhgjy-900.webp)

![Octopus and pork belly wrapped in lettuce](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-19-oqy04-900.webp)

The plump, well-cooked octopus had that perfect chewy, springy texture. It wasn't tough at all, and the sauce soaked into it nicely — great wrapped in lettuce or just eaten piece by piece. Eating it, we kept saying this really is a great Gwanghallu-area restaurant, and added it to our family's list of favorite spots. Planning to come back next time we visit Namwon~~

## Handmade king pork cutlet: the pick for the kids

Honestly, when eating out with a preschooler, you can't just consider the parents' taste buds ㅠ I wanted jjukkumi, but wondered what to order for my 6-year-old daughter — luckily, Geumseong Jjukkumi also had a handmade king pork cutlet on the menu. True to its name, it was huge — plenty even for my big-eater 6-year-old.

Because it's handmade, the breading was crispy and the meat inside was tender, so my daughter really enjoyed it too.

## Finishing with two servings of fried rice on the griddle

After eating the jjuksam, it felt almost rude not to fry up rice with all that delicious sauce left over, so we ordered two servings of fried rice. Once we ordered, they chopped up the remaining octopus finely and mixed it into the rice with the sauce.

![Fried rice being mixed with chopped octopus](https://img.superchart.com/images/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner/namwon-gwanghanru-jjusam-family-dinner-23-j57pb-900.webp)

With the octopus chopped in, it felt much heartier than plain fried rice!!! The leftover sauce and octopus on the griddle blended so well into the rice — I really do think a griddle meal has to end with fried rice.

Even when you're already full, there's always room for fried rice, right? Haha.
