## In short

Seomyeon Milmyeon is a milmyeon (chilled wheat noodle) restaurant in Busanjin, Busan, a 5-minute walk from Seomyeon Station Exit 8. After a walk around Busan Citizens Park, the writer ordered mul-milmyeon, bibim-milmyeon and dumplings, and the baby ate well on noodles stirred into the warm broth that comes free with every table. Seomyeon Milmyeon has no high chair but still works with a child, and the mild dumplings are a must alongside the bibim-milmyeon.

Last Sunday we started the day at a kids' café with our little one, then spent the afternoon out at Busan Citizens Park. Between the heat and all the activity, I found myself craving something cold for lunch. And in Busan, cold means milmyeon. So we headed to Seomyeon Milmyeon, a well-known spot near Seomyeon Station where you can get mul-milmyeon (cold noodles in broth), bibim-milmyeon (spicy mixed noodles), and dumplings all in one visit.

## Where is Seomyeon Milmyeon, and what are the hours and parking?

Seomyeon Milmyeon is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 8 of Seomyeon Station, so it's easy to reach by public transit. It's open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with last order at 9 p.m.

If you drive, you can get 30 minutes of free parking at the building's EOS parking lot. SUVs may have trouble parking there, though, so keep that in mind before you visit.

### Ordering at the kiosk in a couple of taps

There's a kiosk at the entrance where you order and pay first. We ordered one mul-milmyeon, one bibim-milmyeon, and dumplings. Going for the large portion (gopbaegi) only costs an extra ₩1,000.

We arrived past 1:30 p.m., and the place was still packed. Customers kept streaming in the whole time we were eating — you could really feel that this is a longtime favorite in Seomyeon.

Inside, the walls were covered with photos from TV appearances and autographs from celebrities. The tables were fairly spacious too, with everyone from solo diners to families eating there.

## Can you bring a baby? Noodles stirred into the warm broth

Once you're seated at Seomyeon Milmyeon, you get warm broth, pickled radish, radish kimchi, and a soy sauce dip for the dumplings. The warm broth had a pretty strong pepper kick — great for an adult, spicy-sharp in a good way, but a bit much to give a baby as is.

So instead, I mixed a little of the milmyeon noodles into the warm broth for our baby, and she ate it really well. I didn't add too much broth — mostly noodles, cooled down a bit — and she had no trouble with it at all. I'd worried there wouldn't be anything suitable for a baby at a milmyeon place, but it turned out to be a solid meal for her.

## Thin skins, packed filling: the dumplings at Seomyeon Milmyeon

The first thing to arrive was the dumplings. The wrappers were so thin you could practically see the filling through them. Inside, the meat-and-vegetable filling was packed in without a gap.

One bite in, the wrapper was chewy and the filling was mild and clean-tasting. Because the wrapper wasn't thick, the flavor of the filling really came through.

The dumplings were great on their own, but the combination with the milmyeon was even better. They went well with the cool mul-milmyeon, and they also softened the kick of the spicy bibim-milmyeon. If there are two or more of you, I'd definitely recommend ordering dumplings as a side.

## How does the mul-milmyeon taste? Cold, clean broth

Seomyeon Milmyeon's mul-milmyeon came with a generous topping of cucumber, meat, and egg over noodles in a cool broth. The broth itself was refreshing with a tangy-sweet edge — not too intense, and clean enough to eat without any heaviness.

The noodles were on the thin side but didn't break easily, with a nice chewiness. The combination of icy-cold broth and chewy noodles was exactly right for hot weather.

After being out and about for so long, that cold broth tasted even better than usual. It cooled us down from the inside out — a great lunch option for anyone looking for something to eat in Seomyeon during summer.

## How spicy is the bibim-milmyeon?

Seomyeon Milmyeon's bibim-milmyeon came with a generous layer of red sauce over the noodles. I mixed the sauce and noodles thoroughly, then ate it together with the meat and cucumber. The chewy noodles, crunchy cucumber, and tangy-spicy sauce worked really well together.

The sauce wasn't overly heavy or clingy — it was clean enough that I enjoyed it all the way to the last bite. It had just the right amount of spice to keep me wanting more.

Adding a bite of the mild dumplings while eating the bibim-milmyeon toned down the spice and made the whole meal more filling. Honestly, the bibim-milmyeon and dumplings combo was my favorite part of the meal.

## Honest verdict on Seomyeon Milmyeon

Having tried the mul-milmyeon, bibim-milmyeon, and dumplings all together at Seomyeon Milmyeon, I get why it's always busy. The mul-milmyeon was cool and clean, the bibim-milmyeon's tangy-spicy sauce woke up the appetite, and the dumplings were appealing with their thin, chewy wrappers and mild, packed filling. The three dishes were different enough from each other that ordering them together to share worked really well.

Best of all, bringing our baby along worked out better than expected — mixing a little noodle into the warm broth meant she ate far more than I thought she would, and we got to have a relaxed meal. There's no high chair, but I was glad there was a way to feed her anyway.

If you're near Seomyeon Station craving cold Busan-style milmyeon, or want to fill up on mul-milmyeon, bibim-milmyeon, and dumplings all at once, Seomyeon Milmyeon is worth a visit. And don't just order the milmyeon — make sure to try the thin-wrapped, generously filled dumplings too.
