## In short

Mihyang Mungtigi Dongdaegu Station branch is a mungtigi (Daegu-style raw beef) restaurant in the food alley 500 meters from Exit 2 of Dongdaegu Station in Dong-gu, Daegu. Arriving as the first customer at the 5 p.m. Friday opening, the writer ordered the large mungtigi and raw chadol sashimi platter for 65,000 won and got an old-fashioned home-style spread with napjak mandu (flat dumplings) and donggeurangttaeng (Korean meat patties), plus unlimited rice and gim (seaweed). Between the freshness of the beef and the retro mood, Mihyang Mungtigi is worth a return visit.

Mungtigi is one of Daegu's iconic local dishes — apparently, back in the day it was the kind of dish you'd serve to treat an honored guest visiting from out of town. But don't you sometimes just want to treat yourself too? >.< So while hunting for a good mungtigi restaurant in Daegu, I visited Mihyang Mungtigi.

## Where is Mihyang Mungtigi Dongdaegu Station branch, and what are its hours?

Mihyang Mungtigi Dongdaegu Station branch is on the 1st floor of 31 Dongbu-ro 32-gil, Dong-gu, Daegu — about 500 meters on foot from Exit 2 of Dongdaegu Station. It's open from 17:00 to 01:00 the next day (last order 00:00), closed every Sunday.

I arrived exactly at 5 p.m. on a Friday, right at opening. There are waiting seats to the right of Mihyang Mungtigi's entrance.

My first impression was pure Y2K, retro vibes — exactly the aesthetic that's trending right now.

## Inside Mihyang Mungtigi: retro mood and how long the wait is

Inside, Mihyang Mungtigi is a retro-feeling space with mostly four-person tables, and waitlisting runs through Catch Table. I was the first customer at the 5 p.m. opening run, but by around 6 p.m. it was completely full.

*Inside Mihyang Mungtigi*

The interior was seriously full of retro charm. Tables were mostly for four. Since it was an opening run, I was the very first customer haha (I'm a P but half J, so I made a reservation anyway... and still showed up 10 minutes early). I sat there for a bit, and by around 6 p.m. the place had filled up with customers. Guess it really is a proper mungtigi restaurant in Daegu...!! 🙊

At Mihyang Mungtigi, once you get on the Catch Table waitlist, it seems the restaurant calls to confirm. If you miss the call twice, your spot on the waitlist gets automatically cancelled.

We went with the mungtigi + raw chadol sashimi, large, ₩65,000 !! Why? Because I wanted to try both flavors.

## What comes with the meal: napjak mandu, donggeurangttaeng, unlimited rice and gim

The basic spread at Mihyang Mungtigi comes with mungtigi sauce, rice, and gim, plus napjak mandu (flat dumplings) and donggeurangttaeng (Korean meat patties). Rice and gim are unlimited refills, so you can keep wrapping bites as long as the mungtigi lasts.

*Tasting notes on Mihyang Mungtigi*

Seeing that basic spread laid out, doesn't it just feel like the meals your mom used to make? It brought back a rush of old memories, since I hadn't seen anything like it in a while.

![Mungtigi sauce with rice and gim](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-11-1fr49-900.webp)

Mungtigi sauce + rice + gim are provided.

![Napjak mandu served as a basic side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-12-zanlx-900.webp)

![Warm donggeurangttaeng served at the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-13-1crdg-900.webp)

They also serve napjak mandu and donggeurangttaeng, and even though they're just called basic side dishes, the napjak mandu was so good ㅠㅠ And the donggeurangttaeng eaten while still warm — good..

![Napjak mandu wrap topped with vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-14-1a1kx-900.webp)

![A bite of the napjak mandu wrap](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-15-1xqmm-900.webp)

How good could wrapping napjak mandu with vegetables possibly be?

![The simple, no-frills basic side dish spread](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-16-16fgm-900.webp)

I liked that the basic side dishes were exactly what was needed, without anything extra.

## Mungtigi vs raw chadol sashimi: how the taste and texture differ

Mihyang Mungtigi's mungtigi was springy and chewy, while the raw chadol sashimi was sliced thin, showing off marbling, with a soft, nutty flavor. Ordering the large mungtigi + raw chadol sashimi set for ₩65,000 and alternating between the two made the textural difference really clear.

![Large plate of mungtigi and raw chadol sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-17-8pjvl-900.webp)

The mungtigi looked so fresh, probably because the beef was butchered that same day ㅠㅠ The meat was thick-cut and looked incredibly appetizing — exactly the thickness we wanted. The mungtigi had that chewy, springy texture.

This is the raw chadol sashimi. It's sliced thinner than the mungtigi, with fatty marbling that looked almost jewel-like. It was soft, tender, and nutty. If raw chadol sashimi is soft and nutty, mungtigi is springy and chewy? The textures and flavors were different enough that alternating between them was genuinely fun.

![Testing the flip-the-plate mungtigi experiment](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-18-cehuu-900.webp)

![Mungtigi that doesn't fall off even when flipped over](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-19-tzmtu-m-900.webp)

Successfully ran the classic mungtigi experiment — "flip it over and see if it falls off." Then I tried eating it a few different ways.

### Sesame oil, mungtigi sauce or gim: the best way to eat mungtigi

I tried the mungtigi both with plain sesame oil and with the mungtigi sauce, and the sauce — made with red pepper flakes, garlic, and sesame oil — was the real kicker. Wrapping the mungtigi and sauce together in gim was the best combination.

![A piece of mungtigi dipped in sesame oil](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-20-10mw9-900.webp)

First, trying the mungtigi with plain sesame oil.

![Raw beef dipped in mungtigi sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-21-1hh6e-900.webp)

Then trying it with the mungtigi sauce. This sauce really is the mungtigi's secret weapon. The combination of red pepper flakes, garlic, and sesame oil brought the savory depth up another level.

![Mungtigi wrapped in gim](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-22-eqxo3-900.webp)

![Raw chadol sashimi placed on gim](https://img.superchart.com/images/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run/mihyang-mungtigi-dongdaegu-opening-run-23-1klyw-900.webp)

I wrapped both the mungtigi and the raw chadol sashimi in gim, and gim + mungtigi + mungtigi sauce was the winning combination. Plus rice and gim are unlimited ^_^ You can keep wrapping endlessly (as long as the mungtigi holds out).

## Is Mihyang Mungtigi worth a second visit? Final verdict

Mihyang Mungtigi Dongdaegu Station branch won me over with two things — the freshness of the meat and the retro atmosphere — enough to make me want to return. There's no parking, so it's better to walk over from Dongdaegu Station.

Watching them trim the mungtigi from a distance ⭐️ Above all, Mihyang Mungtigi had genuinely fresh meat, and the atmosphere of the place was so good it made me want to come back again. If you're looking for a good mungtigi restaurant in Daegu, this is one I'd recommend.
