We debated what to have, then decided — let's eat what we can't eat when Ina (our daughter) is around!! So today, cockles won out. We visited Kkomak Manse, a well-known spot in Jukbaek-dong, Pyeongtaek. Let's get into it~ ## Parking and waiting at Kkomak Manse in Pyeongtaek Kkomak Manse Pyeongtaek Manse-ro Main Branch has a dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant. We visited after lunchtime so the lot had plenty of room, but during the lunch peak it fills up completely. There's a CatchTable sign out front. We came at an in-between hour, so there was no wait for us. Let's head inside~ Cockles greet you right at the entrance, haha. Once you're in, there are tables on either side of the entrance. This matters a lot. Frozen cockles can get chewy over time. But since Kkomak Manse only uses fresh live cockles, there's zero toughness. And of course, every restaurant has that ingredient-benefits sign, haha. Since most of the seating is sofa-style, I wondered how they'd handle a baby seat — but they had a low chair ready that fits right on top of the sofa seating. And 'standard' doesn't mean thrown together carelessly at all. And the side dishes!! My pick, the red cockle bibimbap. Doesn't the sauce look super red? I'm a total spice wimp, but it's really not that spicy. They're so plump and springy. I wondered why they gave us so much laver as a side dish, and then I found out why — wrapping the rice in it is so delicious!! I ate all the laver, hahaha. I promise I wasn't rationing the cockles on purpose. Each piece is bigger than you'd expect. Dip it in soy sauce and the chives and cockles inside are so chewy, this just goes in even when you're full, haha. See how packed the cockle dumplings are inside? Cockles are a dish that's hard to eat with kids around, right? That's exactly why my husband and I went just the two of us. But Kkomak Manse Pyeongtaek Manse-ro Main Branch, a favorite in Jukbaek-dong, Pyeongtaek, actually has a separate kids' menu, and the pancake and dumplings aren't spicy at all, so kids would love the flavor too. Contrary to our assumption, this turned out to be a great restaurant to bring a child to. Next time I want to come back and try the seasoned cockles and the cockle salad with vinegar dressing too.
