## In short

Yuok is a Japanese rice-bowl and ochazuke restaurant on Songjeonggangbyeon-ro in Haeundae-gu, Busan. Seated at the bar table, I ordered karaage (Japanese fried chicken) for 6,500 won, the saba ochazuke (mackerel over rice with tea broth) set for 17,000 won and the tori-don (chicken rice bowl) set for 18,000 won, eating each course in the order Yuok recommends. With its pond and soft lighting, Yuok works for both an evening date and a meal with parents, and Dongbu Busan Outlet is about a 10-minute drive away.

## What do the exterior and interior of Yuok feel like?

![Exterior view of Yuok in Songjeong](https://img.superchart.com/images/yuok-songjeong-bar-seat-saba-ochazuke/yuok-songjeong-bar-seat-saba-ochazuke-01-ms5oy-966.webp)

Yuok has its own parking lot, and there was even a pond.

The outside and inside were so pretty it felt like I'd stepped into Japan~ In the evening, the soft lighting made the mood even better, and while it's plenty pretty in the daytime too, for a date, evening definitely wins on atmosphere.

Inside there's a bar table and regular tables too, so the vibe was just right. We were seated at the bar table! And by the exit there were even candies, a spray, and a spot to write down whatever you wanted to say.

## Yuok's menu and what I ordered

Every menu comes out as a neat, complete set! There were more options than I expected, so we agonized over what to get, and ended up ordering the saba ochazuke set for 17,000 won, the tori-don set for 18,000 won, and gara-age for 6,500 won. The set meals especially tasted great and looked perfect too — 100% satisfaction!

## Side dishes and how Yuok tells you to eat each dish

![Side dishes served first at Yuok](https://img.superchart.com/images/yuok-songjeong-bar-seat-saba-ochazuke/yuok-songjeong-bar-seat-saba-ochazuke-10-ziq3a-966.webp)

The side dishes came out first! If you need kimchi, they'll give it to you if you ask separately~!

There was even a guide on how to eat it best, so I read through it carefully before digging in!

### Jumbo unaju (grilled eel rice box) and tori-don

- Taste it as is first
- Add toppings like wasabi and chopped scallion
- Pour ochazuke over your choice of toppings and mix
- Eat it however tastes best to you!
- ※ Tori-don: since it's chicken, there may occasionally be a bit of cartilage
- ※ Jumbo unaju: extra eel sauce available on request

### Saba ochazuke (mackerel over rice with tea broth)

- Mash the boneless mackerel and mix it into the rice
- Transfer to your side plate and pour ochazuke over it (※ be sure to add the rice ball topping)
- Eat it however tastes best to you!

### Mazesoba

- Break the egg and mix it with the noodles and toppings (eating the stir-fried meat together with the noodles tastes even better!)
- After eating about 1/3 of the noodles, add the kelp vinegar
- Once the noodles are gone, mix the leftover sauce with the rice (※ a small amount of rice is provided free)

## Karaage, 6,500 won

Before the main dishes, the gara-age (Japanese fried chicken) at 6,500 won came out first. One bite in and it was warm and so delicious. It came with two sauces — wasabi mayo and chili sauce. Pairing it with the wasabi mayo especially was a perfect match! Great for whetting the appetite before the meal 😋

The mains finally arrived! (left) tori-don set for 18,000 won, (right) saba ochazuke set for 17,000 won. It really is a full spread, right? From the salad, side dishes, rice and soup, all the way to the plum tea dessert — a truly thoughtful, generous set 💖

## Tori-don set, 18,000 won

The tori-don set. I like chicken more than eel, so I went with the tori-don! The bowl was piled so high with chicken that it was actually hard to scoop up the rice underneath haha. Personally, I felt the ginger cut through the soy sauce's saltiness perfectly, so eating it with the ginger made it taste even better🤤✨ The chicken was so tender too, with absolutely no gamey smell — clean and satisfying. Really happy with it 👏

## Saba ochazuke set, 17,000 won: eaten three ways

The saba ochazuke set at 17,000 won. A big piece of mackerel sitting right on top completely stole my attention the moment it arrived! I gathered myself and followed the eating guide. First, step one: mash the boneless mackerel and mix it into the rice (being boneless really did make it easy to mix straight into the rice…)

![Boneless mackerel mixed into rice for saba ochazuke](https://img.superchart.com/images/yuok-songjeong-bar-seat-saba-ochazuke/yuok-songjeong-bar-seat-saba-ochazuke-20-1gvwo-966.webp)

Second, I tried one bite of soft mackerel plain, and one bite topped with wasabi and scallion for a clean finish! (The mackerel's savory flavor spreads through your mouth with a hint of smoky char🔥 — no bones at all, just soft and delicious!)

Third, I loaded up an empty side plate with all sorts of toppings and poured the warm ochazuke over it~ 🍵

The delicate broth paired so well with the mackerel that it felt like a totally different dish again☺️ This one especially seems like it'd be even better eaten warm as the weather cools down in fall and winter! ❄️

## My honest review of Yuok

![Signature photo of Yuok's Songjeong location](https://img.superchart.com/images/yuok-songjeong-bar-seat-saba-ochazuke/yuok-songjeong-bar-seat-saba-ochazuke-24-bg8el-1200.webp)

My honest take on Yuok, a Japanese restaurant in Songjeong, Busan. From the exterior to the interior, the details were so alive I genuinely felt like I'd wandered into a little restaurant down a Japanese alley! In the evening, the soft glow of the lighting made the atmosphere even cozier and more beautiful. Honestly felt like relaxing over a bowl of ochazuke somewhere in Japan~!

The food was excellent too — everything came out as a neat, complete set, and neither the mackerel bowl nor the tori-don (chicken rice bowl) had any fishy or gamey taste at all, just clean flavor 🍱 The portions were generous too, so we ate until we were full, and it felt thoughtfully prepared, like being taken care of. The atmosphere is upscale and quiet, so it's also a great spot to bring your parents.

After the meal, it's about a 10-minute drive to Dongbu Busan Outlet, so it was great for heading off to shop afterward too 🛍️ If you're ever near Songjeong or Dongbu Busan Outlet, definitely stop by this place!
