Today I visited Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch, a grilled fish spot in Bisan-dong, Anyang. It's a newly opened premium grilled fish restaurant, so I wanted to bring you an honest review 🐟

## Inside Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo: group seating and a figurine display

The interior of Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch is spotless and pleasant since it just opened. There were only two of us, but the owner kindly offered us a bigger table.

Further inside there's a private group seating area — it would be perfect for a group gathering.

There's a display of all kinds of figurines that clearly show the owner's real passion. I enjoyed looking around, and kids seemed to love it too.

The signature menu at Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch ranges from the boyang (nourishing) set with several kinds of grilled fish to individual sets of oven-grilled mackerel, Atka mackerel, Spanish mackerel, and yellow corvina. Beyond grilled fish, there are also a la carte dishes like crab jang (soy-marinated crab), tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), pizza, and spicy stir-fried pork.

## Spanish mackerel sold out, so two Atka mackerel sets at 18,000 won each

At Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch, ordering one set meal per person is required. I wanted to try the Spanish mackerel, but unfortunately it was sold out, so we ordered the Atka mackerel grilled fish set (₩18,000) for two. You can choose white or brown rice, and adjust the spice level.

On the table were paper cups, soy sauce, pink salt, and a small dish, plus a neatly packaged set of utensils.

What makes Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch special is the all-you-can-eat self-service bar. It had everything from tableware to vegetables and side dishes, all generously stocked.

- Side dishes: chonggak kimchi (young radish kimchi), black sesame lotus root, crunchy cucumber peppers, cabbage salad, seasoned bellflower root, lettuce wraps, tofu ssamjang
- Bibimbap corner: bracken fern, seasoned radish, seasoned bean sprouts, sesame oil, rice
- Also: japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), nurungji (scorched rice), tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes)

And finally there was japchae, nurungji, and tteokbokki. (As a tteokbokki lover, I was instantly happy the moment I saw it 🫶🏻) The self-bar had such a variety that I felt like I could fill up on it alone.

## Tasting the oven-grilled Atka mackerel set

By the time I got back from the self-bar, the Atka mackerel set had arrived. It came with cabbage doenjang soup, cabbage salad, seasoned bellflower root, japchae, crunchy cucumber peppers, black sesame lotus root, chonggak kimchi, and brown rice.

You ladle the doenjang soup into your own soup bowl. It was warm with a good, savory doenjang flavor.

The tteokbokki I'd been looking forward to from the self-bar looked delicious, and it really was — good enough that I went back for a refill.

Then the main dish, the Atka mackerel, arrived. Being oven-grilled made it seem even more delicious. Wasabi came on the side too, which cuts through any richness nicely.

The Atka mackerel was huge in size — I was genuinely amazed by how big it was.

The bones came off easily and the flesh was thick and delicious. Fresh out of the oven and piping hot, it was total rice-thief material — the two of us completely demolished two big pieces of Atka mackerel and were stuffed.

## Finishing the meal with bibimbap from the self-bar

To finish, I made bibimbap, mixing in the ingredients from the bibimbap corner plus lettuce, all snipped with scissors.

With the fragrant sesame oil aroma and some fish flesh on top, the bibimbap was even more delicious eaten together… it was a meal we finished completely stuffed and happy ( ̳- ·̫ - ̳ˆ )

I visited Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo Bisan Branch, a grilled fish spot in Bisan-dong, Anyang, and with its all-you-can-eat self-bar and group seating perfect for gatherings, I'd recommend it to anyone who loves grilled fish.
