Turtle Mama, Turtle Papa and the whole Turtle Family were on a Jeonju family trip when we stopped by Oillaenae Jeonbuk National University Branch, famous as a Jeonju pork belly spot. It's known as a Jeonbuk National University favorite for using only meat butchered within 5 days, so I was hyped before we even walked in~~

The drink promo on the wall caught my eye too. Soju and beer are both ₩1,900 as part of their price-stability campaign! They had pretty much every brand — Terra, Kelly, Chum Churum, Jinro fresh, Jinro. Very much a Jeonbuk National University spot that looks out for students' wallets, and I loved that.

The moment I saw the waiting-guest perks sign on the wall at Oillaenae Jeonbuk National University Branch, I thought, this owner has real style.

- Wait 30 min–1 hour: soju/beer or steamed egg
- Wait 1–2 hours: a serving of pork belly or pork neck
- Wait 2–3 hours: yukhoe (raw beef tartare), no less

There was also a limited-menu poster that basically screamed 'Jeonbuk National University has lost it again.' 5-layer pork and skirt meat are ₩12,000 each, pork skin is ₩5,900, but it's capped at 30 servings a day so it ends the moment it sells out. A branch-exclusive menu like this is a must if you're on a Jeonbuk National University food crawl.

## Oillaenae location, opening hours and parking in Jeonju

Oillaenae Jeonbuk National University Branch sits right behind Jeonbuk National University and is open from 11am to midnight. It's also super close to the Jeonju Intercity Bus Terminal, making it a great fit for a Jeonju trip.

Near the counter there were tons of partnership stickers from the Jeonbuk National University central student council. Turns out the rumor that the owner takes great care of Jeonbuk National University students is true!!

I went around midday on August 12, and it was clearly running straight through with no break time, and the owner was really kind. Parking space at the store isn't very generous, so keep in mind you'll likely need a nearby public or paid lot~

## What the Oillaenae dining room and storefront look like

The counter had cute dolls and a whiteboard covered in doodles that instantly put me in a good mood. There was even a sign saying you're welcome to borrow a store umbrella if it suddenly rains and return it later — such a nice touch.

Definitely check out the brand story, 'Why Oillaenae,' playing on the in-store monitor. It explains they only use ultra-fresh meat butchered within 5 days, and they even display the slaughter certificate transparently at the entrance, which made me trust the place even more.

## What makes Oillaenae different from other Jeonju pork grills

### 1. Pork butchered within 5 days

The second Turtle Mama, Turtle Papa and I sat down, they set up the side dishes and grill right away! Just like the brand story said, they only use meat butchered within 5 days, so Turtle King basically became a pig-eating machine!! Learned from the store's signage that it's premium Korean sow pork too — so happy about that!!

I'd already popped a piece in my mouth before taking photos lol. Even the color was different — you could really tell it was ultra-fresh.

### 2. Korean-grown ingredients only

On the wall were the Korean Pork Certified Store mark, the Korea Pork Producers' KOREA PORK badge, and a pork sales certification. Pork, rice, lettuce, garlic — all domestic, and even the kimchi is labeled as made with domestic napa cabbage. There's still more hidden gems around the store — I'll get to that when I show you the self-bar.

## Grilling the pork: smoky flavour and the full table spread

Now for the real deal!! Can't hide my excitement. Under the lettuce and cheongyang pepper tray sat thick slices of raw premium Korean sow pork, and even the color looked super fresh.

Just the sizzle of it cooking on the grill got my mouth watering. Of all the Jeonju BBQ places I've been to, this might have the best smoky grilled flavor.

Steamed egg, kimchi stew, cold noodles — a table full of food just looking at it makes me full. Can one Jeonju pork belly set really be this generous??

The steamed egg had a sprinkle of seaweed flakes and sesame seeds. The kimchi was crisp, with that real domestic-cabbage flavor.

Cold noodles come with the set too, and the sides — half an egg, julienned cucumber, pickled radish — are seriously on point.

On the kiosk screen there was also a ₩0 event menu — review pork skin, review hangover ramyeon, review water cold noodles, review bibim cold noodles, review steamed egg — quite the lineup.

Looking at the dining hall, every table has that smoke-extraction thing??, which made eating so comfortable!! There's plenty of seating for group dinners too.

### 1. A self-bar you can refill freely

Here's that special feature I teased earlier — the self-bar! Green onion kimchi, wild garlic chives, sliced onion, garlic — all refillable at the self-bar, and you can keep going without feeling awkward about it.

Under the ceiling lights, the pig-character figure and the Korean Pork certification badge caught my eye again.

The counter was also lined with baseball photocards, and the ₩1,900 soju/beer price held steady here too. As a true Jeonbuk National University favorite, you can really feel their commitment to keeping prices stable.
