## In short

Mayway is a Chinese restaurant on Cheomdangangbyeon-ro in Cheomdan, Gwangju, newly opened after the former Daeheung Banjeom was renovated. Visiting with a child, the writer ordered the solo set meal (12,900 won), ganjjajang (black bean noodles, 9,900 won), half-size tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork, 18,900 won) and fried rice (9,900 won), plus sweet potato fritters, the scallion kimchi self-serve bar and ice cream for dessert. Mayway has no lot of its own, but parking at the Lotte Mart right next door makes it an easy stop before or after shopping.

## What is Mayway in Cheomdan, Gwangju? The renovated Daeheung Banjeom

This time I visited a new lunch spot in Cheomdan, Gwangju called Mayway. Turns out Mayway used to be Daeheung Jeomjang before it was renovated and reopened — haha! My kid Shushu said she wanted tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), so off we went. There's no dedicated parking lot, but since we wanted to hit the mart after eating, we parked at Lotte Mart right next door.

- No dedicated parking, but Lotte Mart is right nearby — great for shopping before or after
- Open every day, 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, no closed days
- Yes Kids Zone, with high chairs and kids' tableware available

This Cheomdan lunch spot we visited with the family, Mayway, has a wide variety of Chinese menu items, and it's tasty and reasonably priced, so it's a genuinely popular place even packed on weekdays. No wonder I've been strangely busy all last week, and I'm only catching my breath today haha. Anyway, hunting down good restaurants is always the right call ♥ Parking at Lotte Mart really put us right at the door haha.

## Inside Mayway: seating and why families fill the tables

Walking into Mayway with the family, we were greeted by a clean, tidy interior. The space was bigger than expected, and there were a lot of families dining. We were the first dinner customers, but right after us more families came in, which told me this is a family-favorite spot. And apparently, given the menu, lunchtime here is absolutely packed haha.

## Sweet potato fritters, the scallion kimchi self-serve bar and free rice

After we ordered at Mayway, they brought out sweet potato fritters as an appetizer — and wow, they were so good! We polished them off in no time. You help yourself to side dishes at the self-serve bar, and the scallion kimchi in particular is a work of art, definitely try it. There's also a big rice cooker off to the side with free rice — so nice haha!

## QR code ordering at Mayway and what we ordered

At Mayway there's no paper menu — you order via a QR code at the table. This time we ordered the solo set meal (₩12,900, with tangsuyuk + jjajang + jjamppong), ganjjajang (₩9,900), half-size tangsuyuk (₩18,900), fried rice (₩9,900), and a zero-sugar cola (₩2,000). Our family usually prefers jjamppong over jjajang, but we were craving jjajang today, so we added an extra ganjjajang. Everything came out pretty quickly after a short wait!

### Solo set meal, 12,900 won: is it enough for one person?

The first thing to arrive, Mayway's solo set meal, had a much bigger portion than I expected. If you ever want a set-meal experience while dining alone, or if you're not a big eater, I highly recommend this solo set — it's generous and delicious, and I could see why it's so popular.

### Half tangsuyuk, 18,900 won: old-school style, packed with pork loin

Then came Mayway's half-size tangsuyuk haha! Even this half size was plenty for our family. Add that to the tangsuyuk already in the solo set, and it really adds up. The tangsuyuk was stuffed with pork loin inside and so delicious, ugh. It was also a nice touch that they served the sauce separately. If you love old-school style tangsuyuk, you'll really love this one. Shushu took one bite and her eyes went wide, and she wolfed it down haha!

### Ganjjajang, 9,900 won: thin noodles are the highlight

Next up was Mayway's ganjjajang (black bean noodles)! Personally, I think this place is absolutely a jjajang restaurant. If you come here, you have to order something in the jjajang family haha. Seriously so good! The noodles are much thinner than at other places, and the jjajang sauce itself is incredible, ugh. Which makes me think their dolssol jjajang (stone-pot jjajang) must be amazing too. I decided I need to come back just to try that.

### Fried rice, 9,900 won: the dish kids finish first

Mayway's fried rice is also one of the dishes kids really love. The portion is quite generous, and even though it's just simple, fluffy fried rice, it was so tasty haha! Thanks to it, we ate well and headed off to walk a lap around Lotte Mart feeling full and satisfied. I'm definitely coming back to try the dolssol jjajang next time haha!

## Ice cream for dessert: would we go back to Mayway?

At Mayway, a great spot for lunch in Cheomdan, Gwangju, they even give you ice cream for dessert ♥ It had strawberry jam mixed in, which made it even tastier. Thanks for the good meal!!

If you're looking for a good lunch spot in Cheomdan, Gwangju, to visit with family, I really recommend giving Mayway a try. We had a genuinely delicious meal haha. Next time, it's dolssol jjajang or bust!!
