## In short

I am Balance Pilates Byeollae is a 1:1 rehabilitation Pilates studio about 10 minutes on foot from Byeollae Station in Namyangju, Gyeonggi. After ankle fracture surgery and with a flat back, I started with a 3D static posture analysis, then took private classes that worked on the left-right imbalance caused by scoliosis. The one-on-one alignment coaching caught what group classes missed, and even easy-looking moves left my muscles shaking.

Today I've got a slightly different kind of review! It's my 1:1 rehabilitation Pilates review from I am Balance Pilates (아이엠밸런스필라테스) Byeollae branch.

Honestly, back in April this year I had surgery on my ankle — removal of a bone fragment and ligament repair. After the surgery I could really feel how off-balance my body had become. On top of that, my back is naturally supposed to have a C-curve, but mine is completely flat, so I get stiff a lot! I'd been feeling like my usual 1:6 group equipment Pilates just wasn't enough anymore. Then someone strongly recommended a place staffed by teachers with a physical therapy background, so I went to check it out on my own!

## What I am Balance Pilates Byeollae looks like, and what's inside

![Studio entrance on the 2nd floor with a professional Pilates signboard](https://img.superchart.com/images/byeollae-pilates-one-on-one-rehab-iam-balance/byeollae-pilates-one-on-one-rehab-iam-balance-02-vs6ac-m-900.webp)

I am Balance Pilates Byeollae is on the 2nd floor of the building at 116 Sunhwagung-ro. Going up to the 2nd floor, there's a professional Pilates signboard standing right in front, which made me trust the place even more!

The moment I opened the door, a nice fragrance drifted out~ It's a workout space, so I expected some sweat smell, but no worries at all at I am Balance Pilates Byeollae! The interior is done cleanly in white and wood tones.

Near the entrance there's an InBody machine, water cooler, ice machine, coffee machine, and microwave. I brought my own tumbler and filled it up with water haha.

The changing rooms are separated by gender and pretty spacious, so it wouldn't feel crowded even with several people at once! There are 10 lockers, which is plenty! If the lockers used keys there'd be a risk of losing them, but these are keypad-type lockers! There's also a shower room inside! haha With body wash, shampoo, and towels all provided outside, you can literally show up empty-handed!

Honestly, this part gave me the most confidence. Since it wasn't long after my ankle surgery, I was a little worried that bad form during exercise could make things worse — but this reassured me.

There's a class schedule board too! A happy-hour event is running as well!

Before class I looked around the inside! Every single room here is a private one-person studio! Reformer, Cadillac, ladder barrel, chair — all the equipment Pilates needs is there! There's a mirror before class starts, so click~

## What the 3D posture analysis found: flat back and scoliosis

![3D static posture analysis machine used before class](https://img.superchart.com/images/byeollae-pilates-one-on-one-rehab-iam-balance/byeollae-pilates-one-on-one-rehab-iam-balance-05-5dda6-900.webp)

Before starting class, I am Balance Pilates Byeollae has a machine that analyzes your body in 3D, so I got tested first. I did a static posture analysis!

My shoulder, spine, and pelvis lines all showed up right on the screen, and seeing my flat back reflected as an actual number was both fascinating and a little startling haha.

From the front, my shoulder heights didn't match, so my hand positions were different! My legs were off too — my right leg was rotated further out... So from the front, the back of my right hand shows more. Guilty of standing lopsided, apparently...!

![Side-view posture analysis result screen showing reduced thoracic curve and forward lumbar tilt](https://img.superchart.com/images/byeollae-pilates-one-on-one-rehab-iam-balance/byeollae-pilates-one-on-one-rehab-iam-balance-06-1n5bb-631.webp)

From the side, it was pretty much what I expected. Reduced thoracic curve... It's supposed to be a C-shape, but mine's flat, so it gets so sore normally ㅜㅜ My lumbar spine has a severe forward tilt too.

![Back-view posture analysis result screen showing scoliosis](https://img.superchart.com/images/byeollae-pilates-one-on-one-rehab-iam-balance/byeollae-pilates-one-on-one-rehab-iam-balance-07-1cpsx-755.webp)

From the back, it showed I have scoliosis! I already sort of knew this from X-rays at an orthopedic clinic before ㅜㅜ

Seeing the current me in red against the normal posture in black really showed how much deformation there is... The goal of the rehab exercises is to move toward that black, normal line. Being able to see the actual numbers for my own body's deviations made it hit home a lot harder! Based on this analysis, the teacher designed the class direction considering both my ankle condition and my back line.

## How the 1:1 rehab class differed from a group Pilates class

The 1:1 rehab class at I am Balance Pilates Byeollae was designed around correcting the left-right imbalance from my scoliosis, while staying within limits that wouldn't strain my ankle. When I said I wanted my flat back discomfort corrected, the teacher started by loosening up my back first.

Whatever movement I did, both sides had to rise to the exact same height. Without thinking about it, my right side kept moving first. She taught each and every one of these movements so carefully that I started paying way more attention to my form!

Since it's truly one-on-one, she kept checking my ankle and spine alignment on every single movement. It was on a completely different level from the 1:6 group equipment Pilates I'd done before. Honestly, in the group classes I used to think I was pretty good at Pilates (since I never got corrected and never struggled) haha. But here, once she aligned my pelvis and spine on both sides move by move, even the easiest-looking exercises made my whole body shake and it was genuinely so hard...

Working out in whatever position felt comfortable to me was easy — but it turns out that was just me constantly exercising in a crooked position... When I moved in the position she corrected me into, you'd think, what could possibly be hard about that easy-looking move? Try it yourselves.......... I was legit yelling and shaking through the whole workout... The director told me not to worry about the shaking and just focus, so I just trembled through the entire class haha. By the end I was drenched in sweat haha.

That's when I really felt it — why 1:1 rehab Pilates matters so much. In group classes, the teacher has to watch several people at once, so honestly it's hard for them to look closely at things like my ankle condition or flat back. But here, with the teacher focused on just me, even the same movement felt like it had a completely different effect!!! Especially around my ankle, she adjusted the intensity on the spot so it never overstrained it, which was such a relief!!!

After class, my back and glutes had this quietly cooling yet stiff feeling — not a bad stiffness, but the good kind that says 'you just used muscles you never use' haha.

## Honest verdict on 1:1 rehab Pilates in Byeollae

After my ankle surgery, honestly I was scared to start exercising again, but I am Balance Pilates Byeollae adjusted everything to my condition so I could go with peace of mind. There's definitely a price difference compared to 1:6 group equipment Pilates, but given the level of close, personalized care you get, I felt it was well worth the cost.

Especially for someone like me with a surgical history, I really confirmed this time that 1:1 rehab Pilates is far safer than group classes. Next visit, I'm planning to add a bit more range-of-motion work for my ankle. If you have a flat back like me, or you're looking for exercise for post-surgery rehab purposes, I highly recommend giving this a try at least once! I'm planning to keep coming here steadily to work on my back line and ankle balance!
