Hi, this is Mojjimom! There's a place I go back to in Gwangju whenever I'm craving yangkkochi (lamb skewers) — Jangbaeksan Yangkkochi Songjeong in Songjeong-dong, Gwangsan-gu. I first visited last year, and this is already my third time back.

Going out to eat while raising a kid isn't easy, but this place suited my taste so well that I kept coming back — so this time I went again with my husband. 🥹

If you're looking for good yangkkochi near Gwangju Songjeong Station, this is definitely worth a visit. It's a spot near Songjeong Station where you can enjoy not just lamb skewers but proper Chinese dishes too, so it's great for a group to share a bunch of things!

## Store size, parking, and why it's good for groups

### Store info

Jangbaeksan Yangkkochi Songjeong is a lamb skewer specialty restaurant in Songjeong-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. According to the store's own description, it's a 15-year-old yangkkochi restaurant near Songjeong Station in Gwangsan-gu. It started out in an alley of the old Songjeong Market and has since moved to a much bigger space of about 120 pyeong spread across the 1st and 2nd floors.

Maybe that's why the place feels quite spacious and the tables aren't cramped — it seemed like a good spot for friends, family meals, or work dinners with a bigger group.

### Parking info

As someone who drives, I also liked that there's a dedicated parking lot. Parking stress is a real thing when hunting down good restaurants, but here I could visit without worrying about it.

## What we ordered that day

On this visit, we (my nickname for me and my husband) ordered:

- 2 servings of lamb skewers
- Egg fried rice
- Harbin beer

That's what we went with.

![Table set with 2 servings of lamb skewers, egg fried rice, and Harbin beer](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-06-17car-966.webp)

But as we ate, the lamb skewers turned out to be so good haha... we ended up ordering one more serving, for a total of 3.

Three servings of lamb skewers between the two of us, who don't even eat that much...😂 Maybe it was because it was a rare meal out while raising a kid, or maybe it was just that good, but I couldn't put my chopsticks down that day. ㅜㅜ

## How the lamb skewers tasted

The lamb skewers come out with the meat already cut into bite-sized pieces on the skewer, and you cook them on the grill until golden.

As the meat cooked, the gentle smoky char and savory lamb aroma that rose up were really good.

![Lamb skewers with rising smoky char](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-14-1lic5-966.webp)

Yangkkochi can be a hit-or-miss thing for some people because of its distinctive smell, but here the spice didn't overpower the meat's flavor — instead, the savory char-grilled lamb flavor came through first.

The outside got slightly crispy from the grill while the inside stayed juicy and tender, so the savory flavor kept building the more you chewed. The chewy yet soft texture typical of lamb skewers, laced with a gentle smoky char, made it hard to stop eating.

### When's the best time to dip in the cumin?

And then there's the spice that's essential with yangkkochi — dip it in a little zǐrán (cumin spice blend) and the flavor changes completely! The savory lamb combined with zǐrán's fragrant, tingly kick makes the flavor come alive in your mouth!

![Lamb skewer dipped in zǐrán spice](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-17-61yuq-966.webp)

![A piece of lamb skewer coated in cumin spice](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-18-afozb-966.webp)

![Lamb skewer eaten with spice blend](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-19-1m68l-m-966.webp)

![Table setting with zǐrán spice served alongside skewers](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-20-1i8xv-966.webp)

Personally, I'd recommend tasting the meat on its own first rather than piling on the zǐrán from the start, then dipping it in afterward.

We originally ordered 2 servings, but it was so good we couldn't help but add another. That should tell you how much I enjoyed it…?

## The dark horse: egg fried rice

And the dish that surprised me the most was the egg fried rice. Honestly, when I go for yangkkochi, I'm usually focused on the meat and don't expect much from the fried rice — but here, the egg fried rice was genuinely delicious.

![Fluffy egg fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-21-zobvl-966.webp)

The rice grains were fried up light and fluffy with great texture, and the eggy savoriness came through gently — but what I liked most was the subtle smoky char. Not an overpowering smokiness, just a faint hint that came through with each bite, which I actually liked.

![A spoonful of smoky egg fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-22-ehy16-966.webp)

Take a spoonful of egg fried rice, top it with a piece of lamb skewer, and eat them together — the salty savoriness of the meat and the mild simplicity of the fried rice go really well together.

![Egg fried rice topped with a piece of lamb skewer](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-23-1jrye-966.webp)

Personally, I recommend the yangkkochi + egg fried rice combo! Eating only lamb skewers can get a bit greasy after a while, but the fried rice balances things out along the way so you can keep eating happily until the end.

## 🍺 Tsingtao with yangkkochi? I recommend Harbin!

And there's one thing you can't skip when eating yangkkochi — beer!

![Harbin beer enjoyed alongside lamb skewers](https://img.superchart.com/images/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju/jangbaeksan-lamb-skewers-songjeong-gwangju-24-1imyl-966.webp)

People usually say Tsingtao goes with yangkkochi, but if you've eaten enough of it, you'll know... I tried it with Harbin beer this time. Everyone, you really need to try Harbin sometime. haha

Take a bite of savory, salty yangkkochi and then a sip of cold Harbin beer, and your palate gets cleaned up perfectly, making you want to go right back to the skewers — it's magic. The combo of the subtly smoky yangkkochi and the cold beer was especially good.

Ever since I tried this combination, yangkkochi + Harbin has become my go-to rule.🍺 If you're planning to eat yangkkochi, don't just stick with Tsingtao — give Harbin a try too. It really goes well!

## 🥢 What other Chinese dishes are on the menu besides yangkkochi

Jangbaeksan Yangkkochi Songjeong isn't just a lamb skewer place — you can also enjoy a variety of authentic Chinese dishes there. According to the store's description, a chef from mainland China prepares dishes like mala tang, mala xiangguo, guobaorou, jisamseon, chili chicken (gochu japchae), gochu japchae, la zi ji (ganpunggi), and mapo tofu.

So if you're going with a group, it might be worth ordering a few different dishes to share rather than sticking to just yangkkochi. If you like Chinese food, having more menu options is definitely a plus!

## 🚗 A good yangkkochi spot to find near Gwangju Songjeong Station

It's a good place to visit if you're trying to find somewhere to eat near the station or want to enjoy good yangkkochi and Chinese food with friends. ## ❤️ Final verdict

This is my third visit to Jangbaeksan Yangkkochi Songjeong since first coming last year. Given that eating out isn't easy while raising a kid, the fact that I've come back three times means this place is already a proven favorite in my book.😂

This time again, we started with 2 servings of yangkkochi, liked it so much we added a third, and cleaned our plates of egg fried rice too. The skewers were golden and grilled with a subtle smoky char on the outside while staying juicy and tender inside, letting the savory lamb flavor really shine. Adding zǐrán brought out its fragrant, tingly kick and made the yangkkochi even more appealing.

And I really want to emphasize the Harbin beer! The saying
