## In short

Stern Clinic is a skin and body care clinic on Baekhyeon-ro 101beon-gil in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi. After a skin scanning session showed dry, bumpy skin with redness and heat, Stern Clinic recommended softening the parched surface and refilling moisture first instead of exfoliating more. The result felt calm rather than dramatic, and the consultation changed the writer's entire home-care routine.

My skin condition really hasn't been sitting right with me lately. After washing my face it feels tight, and even with moisturizer it dries out fast — but oddly enough my skin isn't smooth at all, it still feels bumpy and uneven to the touch.

Small breakouts kept popping up and depending on the day my face showed redness too, so this time, before buying yet another product, I thought "let's actually see what state my skin is really in" and went to Stern Clinic in Seongnam.

## Why dead skin wasn't the problem at all

I assumed it was just built-up waste and dead skin cells. But after the skin scanning and consultation at Stern Clinic, it turned out almost the opposite of what I'd been thinking.

In my case my skin was already quite dry and thinned, so rather than removing more buildup aggressively, filling in hydration first and softening the surface should come first, they explained. Skin condition and what care is needed varies by person, but I'd been thinking about this completely backwards.

## I arrived in makeup, so Stern Clinic started with cleansing

They'd recommended coming without makeup for the skin type scanning, but I had an appointment beforehand so I showed up with makeup on, and they prepped a cleanse for me.

One swipe near the eyes and... why is my eyebrow shedding this much...

## I assumed exfoliating was the whole answer

Honestly, before the visit my thinking was simple. Skin's bumpy. Something keeps popping up. Looks like a lot of buildup. So what's the answer? "I really need proper exfoliation." "Wouldn't clearing it all out once fix it?" That's genuinely what I thought.

![Consultation on skin condition](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-05-hy5fe-m-550.webp)

So during the consultation I said the bumps and buildup bothered me more than the dryness. But instead of jumping straight into treatment, they checked my skin condition in several stages, pretty thoroughly. This is where my assumptions started falling apart one by one haha.

## What the first consultation and skin scanning cover

The scanning at Stern Clinic went like: take one shot, look at the screen, view it a different way, then zoom in again. While listening to the explanation and looking at the screen together I kept going "oh my god..." "oh my gawd..." haha.

The first zoomed-in scan screen showed my skin looking so different from what I usually see in the mirror. Some screens were so vivid I said "isn't that a bonfire festival right now?" then "wait, is that the Han River fireworks festival?!"

![Zoomed-in skin scanning screen](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-06-18pc5-550.webp)

In the end I said, "okay, this is basically fish scales." hahaha. It was definitely my face, but zoomed in it was lifted and chaotic in patches...

At this point I thought again, "see, shouldn't I just strip it all off?" But no.

## If the buildup is visible, why not extract more of it?

This is the part of the consultation that stuck with me most. Because my skin was already very dry and the surface quite parched, going the direction I'd imagined — constant exfoliation and stimulation — wasn't the way to go, they said.

Especially in my case, because my skin was so dry, even if there was buildup, removing it forcefully wouldn't necessarily bring good results. In simple terms: the buildup is there, but the skin itself is too dry for it to come off gently.

So the first step wasn't stronger exfoliation but softening the parched surface, and above all, filling it with hydration.

Hearing this felt like a bit of a wake-up call. I'd always thought: rough → exfoliate, buildup visible → clean it more, dry → apply more cream. My skin had actually been saying "stop stripping and just give me water first..." 😂

## I had no idea my skin was holding heat

There was another surprise here. During the consultation they mentioned my skin had heat/inflammation buildup, but I'd never really felt my face was "hot" day-to-day. At first I thought, "I'm not so sure about that?"

![Consultation explaining the skin's heat buildup](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-10-99j56-m-550.webp)

But as the consultation continued, my usual habits started coming to mind one by one. What cleanser I use, how I wash my face, what basics I apply, in what order — I talked through all of it. And it stung a little.

Thinking back on whether I actually chose products based on my own skin condition — no, not really. "Everyone in their mid-30s uses this a lot," so I'd buy it because it sounded fine, and on chaotic days juggling parenting and work I'd often think "no time today, just slap this one thing on and sleep."

So from cleansing to basics, I'd been choosing based on what everyone else used or what I could finish quickest, rather than what actually suited my skin right now.

## Telling the director, "I've been a walking corpse, haven't I?"

Dry skin, heat buildup I hadn't even noticed, and my own home-care habits all laid out one by one — suddenly everything connected. That's when I told the director doing my care, "I've basically just been a walking corpse..." haha.

I said it laughing, but inside I was quietly beating myself up. My skin had been signaling the whole time, and I just kept slapping on more cream when it was dry, exfoliating when it was rough, and scrubbing harder whenever I saw something.

And instead of checking what state my skin was actually in, I'd been picking products based on "everyone uses this" or "this is trending lately." What stuck with me most from this visit was less "what should I buy next" and more "how have I actually been treating my skin."

## Why Stern Clinic didn't force out every extraction

The actual treatment wasn't a matter of clearing out everything visible on screen. They softened the skin's surface first, then focused only on what could be cleared without overdoing it, given my current skin condition.

![Softening treatment on the skin's surface](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-11-1ge4g-550.webp)

![Treatment done within a manageable range](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-12-1tt1o-550.webp)

I actually liked this approach. If it were up to me, the second I saw it on screen I'd have said "take it all out!" haha, but they went with a direction that avoided adding extra stimulation to skin that was already dry and sensitive.

![Face care in progress during treatment](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-13-d824k-550.webp)

![Buildup cleared out during treatment](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-14-1f831-m-550.webp)

Seeing what actually came out during the treatment, I thought "I thought I cleansed pretty diligently...?" and was surprised all over again. 😂 So instead of washing harder, I realized I need to rethink the cleansing method that actually fits my skin.

## After the facial: comfortable skin, not an instant glow

Right after treatment it wasn't a "whoa, my skin completely changed in one day!" moment. What I felt was less tightness than usual, and when I touched my skin the surface felt a bit more comfortable and soft.

![Skin looking calmer right after treatment](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-15-8zetg-m-550.webp)

I think these things are better judged over a few days than concluded in one, so I'm still keeping an eye on how my skin is doing.

## The skincare routine I rebuilt as soon as I got home

It didn't end with "okay, I'll hydrate more from now on." I was also told what type of cleansing product suits my skin now, what direction to take basics for hydration and moisture, and what kind of care could actually be irritating given my current condition. They also gave me home-care products portioned out to suit my skin.

![Home-care products portioned out to take home](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-16-1h5sp-550.webp)

And honestly... I went home and went through all my products again. It's not that I threw out everything I'd been using — but based on the product types and care direction the director explained, from cleansing to basics, I actually changed my whole routine.

![Basic skincare routine reorganized at home](https://img.superchart.com/images/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care/seongnam-bundang-skin-scanning-dry-skin-care-17-1heew-m-549.webp)

Where I used to check the product name first, now I check "does this type actually suit my skin right now?" first. I'm also trying to cut back on the "no time, just slap on whatever" habit. More than the one treatment itself, what really stuck with me from this visit was going home and changing my own habits.

## The biggest thing this Bundang skin consultation taught me

If you're like me — skin that's dry yet oddly bumpy, makeup that keeps lifting, small breakouts and redness bothering you — it's easy to think "is it too much dead skin?" or "should I cleanse harder?" I genuinely thought that too.

But at least based on what my skin scan showed, hydrating first, softening the parched surface, and reducing unnecessary stimulation came before removing more.

> So this visit to Stern Clinic wasn't just a day I got a treatment done — it was the day I realized I'd been living without really knowing my own skin.

From bonfire festivals to Han River fireworks to fish scales... my skin scan screen had me laughing, shocked, and reflecting all at once, haha. I'm going to keep using the home-care routine switched to the recommended type and watch how my skin changes over the coming days and weeks. This time I'm really going to listen to what my skin is telling me. 😂
