## In short

Hwangbihong is a Chinese restaurant tucked into an alley in Busong-dong, Iksan, Jeonbuk, and a spot locals recommend. The order at Hwangbihong was seafood siraegi jjamppong (dried radish greens, ₩11,000), fried rice (₩10,000) and mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork, ₩12,000), with firm domestic siraegi and green noodles pulled in-house with chives mixed into the dough. If you like siraegi, Hwangbihong leaves nothing to be desired in either portion or flavour.

On a mission to find the number one jjamppong in Iksan as a self-proclaimed jjamppong lover!

A noona I know recommended Hwangbihong (황비홍) in Iksan, a real local favorite. She said the siraegi (dried radish green) jjamppong was amazing, and since that's not a common menu item, I was so curious to try it.

## Where is Hwangbihong in Iksan, and what about parking and hours?

Hwangbihong is at 43 Busong-ro 6-gil, Iksan, near Busong Middle School. It's not on the main road though — it's tucked inside an alley.

There's no dedicated parking lot, but roadside parking works. Looking at the wall across from the restaurant, cars were lined up all along it. Parking difficulty: low.

Open daily 11:00–20:00, with a break time from 15:00–17:00.

I don't think I'd ever been down this particular alley despite living in Iksan. Who knew there was a Busong-dong jjamppong spot hiding in a place like this.

## Hwangbihong's menu and signature jjamppong dishes

The menu at this Iksan Chinese restaurant. Signature dishes include gochu-jjajang, seafood siraegi jjamppong, meat jjamppong, and brisket jjamppong. This time I came for the seafood siraegi jjamppong, so next time I need to try the other signature dishes.

Water and side dishes are both self-service at Hwangbihong.

The side dishes are prepared to match Chinese cuisine.

Plates, scissors, tongs, and other necessities are also self-service — just grab what you need.

True to its status as the signature dish, the seafood siraegi jjamppong had a huge pile of domestic siraegi. I really love siraegi, so siraegi in jjamppong was something I was very curious about.

- Seafood siraegi jjamppong (₩11,000)
- Fried rice (₩10,000)
- Mini tangsuyuk (₩12,000)

## Mini tangsuyuk (₩12,000): an easy size for two

The mini tangsuyuk came out first. It's often awkward for two people to order a small-size tangsuyuk, but Hwangbihong has a mini size, so it was easy to order without feeling like too much.

![Hwangbihong's mini tangsuyuk with thin, crispy batter](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong-08-1e6oj-900.webp)

I honestly wasn't expecting much from the tangsuyuk, but wow, why is Hwangbihong's tangsuyuk so good? The batter isn't thick — it's thin and crispy in a way I don't think I've ever had before. The price isn't a big burden either, so definitely try the mini tangsuyuk!!! Seriously, highly, highly recommend.

## Seafood siraegi jjamppong (₩11,000): domestic siraegi with real bite

Finally, the seafood siraegi jjamppong from Hwangbihong. There's really a lot of siraegi in it. If you like siraegi, you'll really love this dish.

![Close-up of domestic siraegi and seafood packed into the jjamppong](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong-10-12g16-1200.webp)

I prefer siraegi that's firm with some bite rather than mushy, and Hwangbihong uses exactly that kind.

Whenever I go for siraegi ppyeohaejangguk (spicy bone soup) or maeuntang (spicy fish stew), I'm always a little disappointed that there's never enough siraegi, but Hwangbihong packs it in generously enough that you won't feel that way at all.

On top of that, the noodles are really generous too... Can't believe I only just discovered such a precious restaurant (thanks for the tip, noona, hehe).

## Fried rice (₩10,000) with smoky wok flavour

I debated ordering jjajangmyeon but went with fried rice instead! It comes with a basic jjamppong broth on the side.

Sauce poured generously all over. The vegetables are cut into big chunks, and the seasoning of both the sauce and the rice is spot on. Smoky wok-hei flavor, exactly the classic Chinese restaurant fried rice!! Kids would probably love this too.

Nailing the basics makes it taste even better.

![Hwangbihong's green chive house-made noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong-13-1vpt0-900.webp)

## Green chive noodles pulled fresh every morning at Hwangbihong

Unlike other Chinese restaurants, Hwangbihong's noodles are green in color — apparently made in-house with chives mixed in! The noodles are hand-kneaded fresh every morning, and they're seriously chewy and delicious.

![Chewy jjamppong noodles lifted up with chopsticks](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong-14-1dkp0-900.webp)

Not a single thing is skimped on — noodles, siraegi, seafood, all generous portions. As a noodle lover, I often feel let down after one bowl of jjamppong, but this place is truly the best in terms of quantity. And I'd say the best in flavor too.

Not just the noodles — the broth is made from Korean hanwoo cow bones simmered in a cauldron for 24 hours, so of course the flavor runs deep. Such a~ good meal at this Iksan Chinese restaurant!! I'd definitely go back. Already spread the word to my parents, who love siraegi too.

![An orange tabby cat sleeping in front of Hwangbihong's entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong/iksan-busong-dried-radish-green-jjamppong-16-asxxj-900.webp)

There's even a cute kitty guarding the entrance of Hwangbihong. A cute orange tabby sleeping under an umbrella... See you again next time.
