## In short

Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi is a Jeonju-style mulgalbi (watery short rib hot pot) restaurant a 1-minute walk from the back gate of Jeonju Hanok Village's Public Parking Lot No. 1. I was looking for somewhere to eat in Hanok Village and found a mulgalbi place with a great view and a nice atmosphere. I ordered the galbi hot pot set, and the combination of yukjeon and mulgalbi worked way better than I expected. I went to Hanok Maeul Mulgalbi.

Getting there. It's right by the back gate of Jeonju Hanok Village's Public Parking Lot No. 1 — a 1-minute walk and you're there.

## What's the atmosphere like?

The space is open and airy, with a wide, refreshing view. The interior blends with the feel of Hanok Village — clean and nicely put together.

The owner is really friendly, so even first-time visitors can settle in comfortably. It's run personally by an owner with 30 years in the restaurant business, and you can taste that hands-on experience in every dish.

One menu item per person is required. Children can share one menu between two, so keep that in mind for family visits.

## Trying the mulgalbi

The special sauce broth is made with natural ingredients and fruit, packed with fresh vegetables — glass noodles, bean sprouts, mushrooms, onions and more.

I was worried it might be spicy, but it was only mildly spicy — much less than I expected — so even people who aren't used to spicy food can eat it comfortably.

The more you boil it, the more the broth reduces and the flavor deepens — and the ribs you eat at that point are seriously good.

Simmering it down is the whole point!

The portions are generous and the side dishes come out lavish too, so a single bowl of rice almost isn't enough. Finishing with the bean sprout and chive fried rice makes the meal that much more satisfying.

## Trying the yukjeon

Order the galbi hot pot set and the yukjeon (pan-fried beef) comes out first. It's seasoned just right, so it's delicious even without any extra sauce.

The beef is pan-fried with a chewy texture — you can feel that bounce the moment you take a bite.

A plate of yukjeon alone is ₩25,000, but ordering the set gets you the same yukjeon plus mulgalbi for ₩22,000 — the set is by far the better deal.

## Route tip for a Jeonju Hanok Village trip

Park at Hanok Village Public Parking Lot No. 1 and you're a 1-minute walk away. It's a perfect spot for lunch or dinner after visiting Gyeonggijeon Shrine and Jeondong Cathedral. Break time runs Monday to Friday from 15:00 to 16:30, so plan your visit around that.

## Overall verdict

An open view, a clean interior, and a friendly owner. The yukjeon is chewy, and the mulgalbi gets better the longer you simmer it down. This is the place if you want a proper Jeonju-style mulgalbi spread in Hanok Village.
