## In short

Bak Man-bae Arirang Bossam Mokpo Hadang Branch is a gabrisal bossam restaurant near Mokpo's Peace Square in the Hadang/Sangdong area. Visiting with a child around 4pm, the writer ordered a medium half-and-half bossam (반반보쌈) for ₩48,000, which came with complimentary kalguksu, plus self-bar side dishes and puffed rice snacks for dessert. Plenty of side dishes and a mild kalguksu made it an easy, kid-friendly meal.

I was in Mokpo with my kid and did some searching around — this place is close to Peace Square, has been on TV, has waiting lines, and has menus that work well for kids! So we went to Bak Man-bae Arirang Bossam.

We were traveling and our timing was off, so we ended up going for a late lunch/early dinner at 4pm. Luckily there was no wait, but plenty of people were eating! The place was super clean and well-kept, and there was even a private room. The staff and the owner were all so kind!

## What's in the basic side dishes and the self-bar?

Bak Man-bae Arirang Bossam uses gabrisal (pork shoulder blade meat) for their bossam, so it's soft, nutty, and mild — great for kids too! The basic side dishes were stir-fried fish cake, peppers, garlic, salad, napa cabbage kimchi, chive salad, shrimp, and ssamjang (dipping sauce).

Make sure to hit the self-bar before eating! There's a variety of side dishes there that aren't part of the basic spread.

Beyond the basic side dishes, there's also corn salad, pickled garlic scapes, and tteokbokki! Try the pickled garlic scapes with the bossam — they're a perfect match haha.

## When should you order the complimentary kalguksu?

There are two ways to order the kalguksu — together with the bossam, or after finishing the bossam — but I ordered it at the same time since I wanted to give some to the kids too.

The portion was bigger than I expected... Wait, did I get too greedy because it's supposedly a Mokpo must-eat spot? Haha.

## How does the gabrisal half-and-half bossam taste?

Total mouth-watering moment haha. Just looking at it, the gabrisal bossam looks so moist and tender it seems like it'll melt.

![Close-up of moist gabrisal bossam meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/mokpo-hadang-arirang-bossam-family-visit/mokpo-hadang-arirang-bossam-family-visit-13-484bj-900.webp)

The bossam kimchi and radish kimchi looked so vivid — that red color looked absolutely delicious! The golden napa cabbage next to it is steamed or boiled cabbage, and it's really sweet and crunchy. It went great wrapped around the bossam! Wrap the meat in the golden cabbage for something mild, or in the bright red kimchi for something spicy-sweet, and the crunchy radish kimchi had amazing texture too!

The pickled garlic scapes were sweet and salty. Paired with garlic and pepper, they had a sharp kick, and they went really well with the salty-savory salted shrimp too. There were so many side dishes to pair with, it was great — I could eat so many different combinations, so I just kept going and going haha.

### Clam kalguksu — can kids eat it too?

Under a refreshing, deep, rich broth, chewy kalguksu noodles and a ton of clams at the bottom! Crab and chopped green onion on top. Just simmer it for about 5 minutes before eating.

![Complimentary kalguksu topped with crab and clams](https://img.superchart.com/images/mokpo-hadang-arirang-bossam-family-visit/mokpo-hadang-arirang-bossam-family-visit-20-1vdlb-900.webp)

Since it felt like a free side item, I honestly didn't expect much from the taste... but it was actually really good! No flour smell at all, and thanks to the clams the broth was genuinely refreshing haha. Perfect hangover cure for last night's drinking! I slurped it up happily and gave some to the kids too — it wasn't spicy so they ate it well.

## Don't skip the dessert corner

With bossam, rice, and kalguksu, you'll feel like you're about to burst, but don't leave right after eating! Bak Man-bae Arirang Bossam is a Hadang spot that nails even the dessert corner. Let's take a look.

![Dessert corner at Bak Man-bae Arirang Bossam](https://img.superchart.com/images/mokpo-hadang-arirang-bossam-family-visit/mokpo-hadang-arirang-bossam-family-visit-22-c1pbk-900.webp)

There's misugaru (roasted grain powder) slushie, mix coffee, americano, and six kinds of puffed rice snacks. The kids spotted them and loved it so much, they put two rice cake puffs each in a paper cup and took them along haha. We finished up with the misugaru!

Maybe because it was hot out, there was even bottled water ready to go. Such a thoughtful owner! We ate so well and enjoyed it a lot ^^
