## In short

Bisyoku Gwangan Branch is a Japanese-style yakiniku restaurant in an alley off Gwangalli Beach in Suyeong-gu, Busan. For a Busan travel dinner the writer booked through Catch Table, sat at the bar counter and ordered premium beef tongue (₩30,000), sangloseu premium loin (₩22,000), pot ribs (₩20,000), yukmomil buckwheat noodles (₩9,000) and draft beer (₩9,000), with staff grilling the first piece of each cut. The verdict: Bisyoku Gwangan is tastier than most yakiniku restaurants the writer has eaten at in Japan.

You all know a Busan trip is basically a food trip, right? There are just so many good restaurants here. My trick for finding my own favorites is checking Catch Table for places with lots of reviews. That's how I found this Gwangalli yakiniku (Japanese-style grilled meat) spot: "Bisyoku Gwangan Branch."

## Bisyoku Gwangan Branch: location, hours and reservations

- Address: 9-5 Gwanganhaebyeon-ro 344beon-gil, Suyeong-gu, Busan
- Hours: 4 PM – 12 AM (closed Tuesdays)
- ※ Sat, Sun: 12 PM – 12 AM
- Parking: None (use nearby public parking lots)
- Reservations: Yes (Catch Table)

Famous restaurants are almost always fully booked, so whenever I plan a Busan trip I always check Catch Table ahead of time and reserve the must-visit spots. Bisyoku Gwangan Branch is a place that Park Bo-gum and Lee Sang-yi reportedly visited, so I booked a week in advance with high expectations for this yakiniku spot.

## The exterior: a Japanese grill house hidden in a Gwangalli alley

The wooden building with a Japanese-lettered sign and warm yellow lighting made it feel like stumbling upon a local yakiniku restaurant in a Japanese back alley.

Visiting after sunset, the soft lights turned on one by one, giving off a whole different mood. Even before stepping inside, I could really feel like I was on a trip to Japan.

There's a maple tree right in front of the store, adding that distinctly Japanese feel??? With the wooden building and the maple tree together, it really had the vibe of a traditional Japanese street.

## Inside Bisyoku Gwangan: bar counter seats and a table for four

![Dim, wood-interior dining space inside Bisyoku Gwangan Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku-04-1m8wi-966.webp)

The cozy, slightly dim atmosphere carries that Japanese feeling inside too — wood-centered decor captures the warm, cozy mood typical of a Japanese yakiniku restaurant.

Seating isn't just one type — there's bar-style seating along with a table for four, so it works well whether you're visiting with friends or on a date.

I chose the bar seat, even if it's a bit less comfortable, just to fully enjoy that feeling of being on a trip in Japan!!!!

## What's on the menu and what we ordered

![Menu board listing cuts of beef at Bisyoku Gwangan Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku-07-l4e74-966.webp)

True to a yakiniku restaurant, you can pick various cuts of beef according to your taste, or order a set. If it's a special anniversary, or a day you just want to eat until you're stuffed, I'd recommend ordering one of the set menus that includes a variety of cuts.

- Premium beef tongue ₩30,000
- Sangloseu (premium loin) ₩22,000
- Pot ribs ₩20,000
- Yukmomil ₩9,000
- Draft beer ₩9,000

The side dishes included pickled chili peppers, pickled bean sprouts, and shredded radish salad. When you eat yakiniku in Japan itself, side dishes often aren't included, so it was nice that Bisyoku serves clean side dishes just like a Korean grilled-meat restaurant. The pickled bean sprouts in particular felt like Bisyoku's own special touch — crunchy and spicy enough that it made me want to try making it at home.

The meat is shown to you before it's grilled — from the premium beef tongue to the sangloseu to the pot ribs, you could see the grain of the meat and just the right amount of marbling in each cut. It looked delicious even before it hit the grill.

## Premium beef tongue ₩30,000: crisp, chewy texture

Beef tongue is the cut I always eat when I travel to Japan, so I really love it and always order it whenever I go to a yakiniku restaurant. First-timers might feel a bit hesitant thinking "wait, this is a cow's tongue?" but please just try it once. You'll fall in love with the flavor of beef tongue immediately.

![Staff member grilling the first piece of beef tongue on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku-12-1immy-966.webp)

At Bisyoku, the staff grills the first piece of whichever meat you ordered for you. They tell you how well-done each cut tastes best and even the ultimate flavor combinations by cut, so even first-time yakiniku eaters could enjoy it without much difficulty.

The beef tongue had a crunchy, chewy texture with a crispy exterior — the kind of taste that's delicious bite after bite. It has almost no fat but is savory, clean and light, with absolutely none of that gamey smell. Honestly, having been to Japan many times, this was tastier than most of the yakiniku restaurants I ate at over there.

![Plate of raw sangloseu showing visible marbling](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku-14-1amly-966.webp)

## Sangloseu premium loin ₩22,000: best with a dip of salt

The sangloseu was tender with insane amounts of juice. There was just the right amount of marbling too, so it wasn't too greasy and you could still taste the clean flavor of the meat — genuinely delicious.

![Golden-browned sangloseu being dipped in salt](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku-15-ey2c0-966.webp)

Grilled golden brown on the outside and left moist inside, dipping it in a little salt is unbelievably good!!!! And pairing it with a beer in between bites — that's basically heaven right there!!!

![Draft beer enjoyed alongside the yakiniku](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku-16-1dauf-966.webp)

## Pot ribs ₩20,000: dipped in egg yolk, sukiyaki style

Pot ribs don't come out as just meat like typical galbi (short ribs) — vegetables come along with it too. You grill the meat and vegetables together, and what I especially liked was that you enjoy it kind of like sukiyaki.

![Pot ribs served together with vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku/gwangalli-yakiniku-beef-tongue-bishoku-17-94v0s-966.webp)

The ribs, pre-marinated in sauce, are dipped once more in egg yolk, Japanese-style — enjoying the ribs like sukiyaki made me think, "wow, this place is legit." From the beef tongue to the ribs, this felt like the first place in Korea doing proper Japanese yakiniku like this.

## Yukmomil ₩9,000: a cold noodle palate cleanser between cuts

Yukmomil is a dish of yukhoe (beef tartare) served with buckwheat noodles, and the portion of yukhoe was surprisingly generous — hard to believe it's supposed to be a side dish. I especially liked the strong buckwheat aroma from the noodles; eating the yukhoe and noodles together, the tender texture of the yukhoe combined with the fragrant, clean taste of the noodles made for a really delicious bite!!!

After eating meat, you start craving something cool and clean to cut the richness, and yukmomil was exactly that role — a perfect palate cleanser.

## Why Bisyoku Gwangan is worth a Busan dinner

A place I found in Gwangalli during a Busan trip that turned out tastier than the yakiniku I've eaten in Japan. Every single dish was delicious, and it's somewhere I'll definitely revisit next time I travel to Gwangalli. If you want to feel like you're in Japan while in Gwangalli, Busan, I really recommend this yakiniku restaurant: "Bisyoku Gwangan Branch."
