I went out to Myeongdong and wanted a solid meal before doing any sightseeing, so I stopped by Baekok, a gomtang (pork bone soup) restaurant that's a real find near Myeongdong Station. ## How to walk to Baekok Myeongdong from Myeongdong Station Exit 6, and where to park

Baekok Myeongdong is within walking distance of Exit 6 of Myeongdong Station. I got off at Exit 6 and walked over — as soon as you come out of Exit 6, you'll spot Barf Almond right away.

Go straight through the alley between the Barf Almond buildings until you reach the SW19 building.

Facing the SW19 building, turn left into the alley and you'll see Eongteori Raw Meat, a meat restaurant.

Right next to it there's a hidden alley, and once you go in you'll see the Baekok sign clearly.

At first I wondered if a gomtang restaurant could really be tucked in a spot like this, but the alley has a really atmospheric, cool vibe. There's no dedicated parking lot for the restaurant, so it's worth using a nearby paid parking lot, or checking out the Lotte Department Store main branch parking coupon option.

## Inside Baekok Myeongdong: bar counter seats for solo diners

The inside of Baekok Myeongdong has a clean atmosphere with wood and white tones blended together. Opening the door, it felt really tidy and put-together.

Overall it felt like a good place to focus on your meal, which I liked.

There's also a bar table, so eating solo isn't awkward at all, and there are seats set up well for groups of two or four too.

On one wall there was a poster from when the place was featured on a TV show, and just looking at the photos got my expectations up before even eating.

## How does the medium pork gomtang taste? Toreom rice in clear broth

Baekok Myeongdong's pork gomtang comes with the rice toreom-steeped right in the broth. Once you order, the food comes out pretty quickly.

First off, the pork gomtang arrived looking neat and tidy, which I liked.

The side dish is kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), and it's a perfect match with pork gomtang.

The kkakdugi pieces aren't too big either, so they go in easily without getting your hands messy.

And then I wondered — why isn't there a bowl of rice? Don't be surprised: the rice is already toreom-steeped into the broth. So there's no need to mix rice in separately, and you get just the right temperature and a soft texture too.

The broth is clear but really deep. Rather than heavy or greasy, it's a clean broth that goes down easily, making it good to finish to the last drop.

It's domestic sow foreleg meat, so the meat was tender and well-cooked, with a clean flavor.

It's not just lean meat either — there's a good mix of fat and lean, so the texture balances out nicely when you chew. The portion of meat was generous too.

It's clean enough that pretty much anyone could eat it comfortably and feel full. There's also yeolgomtang, the red-broth version, which would be great for a hangover too.

## Is Baekok Myeongdong worth it before a walk around Myeongdong?

If you want a filling meal before shopping or hanging out in Myeongdong, starting with a warm bowl of gomtang at Baekok Myeongdong sounds like a good plan. The staff are friendly, and it's not too far from Myeongdong Station, so it's easy to find.
