## In short

Obongjip Beombak (오봉집 범박점) is a Korean restaurant on Yangjinam-ro in Beombak-dong, Bucheon, specializing in flame-grilled stir-fried octopus and bossam (boiled pork served in wraps). The Nakji Obong Special brings bossam, stir-fried octopus and makguksu (chilled buckwheat noodles) to the table at once, with self-serve side dishes, rice for an extra 1,000 won to mix into the octopus, and free coffee afterwards. Obongjip Beombak is a good pick when you want spicy octopus, mild pork and tangy cold noodles in a single meal.

Today I'm introducing a Bucheon Beombak-dong restaurant, Obongjip Beombak-jeom, which specializes in octopus and bossam (boiled pork wrap). If you love spicy stir-fried octopus or mild, clean-tasting bossam, this is a place worth visiting.

## Obongjip Beombak: the storefront and what it is known for

You can tell from the sign alone that the signature dishes at Obongjip Beombak-jeom are 'jikhwa nakji' (charcoal-grilled octopus) and 'Obong bossam.' Arriving at the storefront, the clean signage caught my eye right away — with the phrase '38 years of Mother's hand-made taste' and a photo of a kindly smiling mother, it really built trust in the food before I'd even eaten. There's also a waiting area near the entrance, so it looks comfortable even when it's busy.

![Obongjip signage reading '38 years of Mother's hand-made taste'](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu-02-52zth-900.webp)

Next to the entrance and out front, there are banners showing the full menu at a glance. Besides jikhwa nakji and Obong bossam, there's a whole range of dishes great as drinking snacks too, like maesaengi yeonpotang (seaweed and octopus soup) and spicy octopus hot pot. The phrase 'This is truly a table of Obong' seemed to show real confidence in the food.

### How late does the lunch special run at Obongjip Beombak?

What especially caught my eye was the 'lunch special' menu — from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM, you can enjoy a meal at a great price. It seemed like it'd be very popular with nearby office workers and residents.

## Seed shop sponsorship and hygiene certification

Looking at one side of the entrance, I noticed a sign with a warm message and a certificate. This location is a 'Seed Store' partnered with the Yeolmae Nanum Foundation, regularly donating a portion of store revenue. It's said to help provide warm meals to children facing food insecurity and lack of care, which made the place feel a bit more special than somewhere you'd just eat and leave.

I also noticed a certificate for 'hygienic pest management space.' Cleanliness and hygiene matter most at a restaurant, so seeing this kind of management was reassuring. Getting to enjoy good food while also being part of a small act of giving put me in a good mood even before the meal started. A store with intentions like this makes you feel a little differently about it, beyond just the taste of the food.

## Inside Obongjip Beombak: atmosphere and group tables

Walking into Obongjip Beombak-jeom, the space was much wider and more comfortable than I expected. Warm lighting paired with clean wooden tables creates a relaxed atmosphere. The tables are spaced generously apart, so it seemed perfect for family outings or group gatherings. On one wall, photos of the menu items are displayed, which helps with choosing what to order.

### Tablet ordering and what comes in the set menus

Once seated, each table had an ordering tablet, making it convenient to order. The screen showed various set menus — the 'Obong Value Set,' which lets you enjoy octopus and bossam together, especially caught my eye. There were various combinations like 'Nakji Bossam Value' and 'Bossam Kalguksu Value,' so you could pick based on your taste. We ordered the Nakji Obong Special, which comes with bossam, stir-fried octopus, and makguksu.

## What the Nakji Obong Special spread includes

Finally, the Nakji Obong Special, the Obongjip table spread, arrived. Seeing the generously laid-out table made my mouth water just looking at it. With everything from spicy stir-fried octopus to bossam served together, we got to enjoy a variety of flavors evenly. My partner and I started slowly, tasting one dish at a time. Having several dishes served all at once really does make eating more fun.

### Self-serve side dish bar and the cost of extra rice

If any side dishes run low, you can freely refill them at the self-serve bar in the restaurant. It was nice being able to easily grab more when something ran short. Just keep in mind that extra rice costs an additional ₩1,000.

## Gabrisal Obong bossam (pork jowl wraps)

The bossam we ordered arrived. It's said to be made from gabrisal (pork shoulder blade meat). Obongjip's bossam came out softly and well boiled. The warm bossam meat is sliced into easy-to-eat pieces, with a light sprinkle of black sesame on top. It looked clean and the portion was generous.

![A plate of gabrisal Obong bossam sprinkled with black sesame](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu-14-136cw-900.webp)

![A piece of bossam meat topped with bossam kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu-15-nxacd-900.webp)

Taking a bite, the meat was softer than expected. Not too dry, just moist enough, and it tasted mild even eaten plain. There was no gamy smell at all, so it was easy to enjoy. Of course, bossam tastes best with kimchi. Placing a piece of bossam kimchi on top of the meat, the mild pork and spicy kimchi went really well together. Adding radish pickle too gave a nice chewy texture, a different kind of enjoyment. Even without dressing it up, bossam really is a dish that's delicious with just well-boiled warm meat and kimchi.

## Flame-grilled stir-fried octopus: how smoky is it?

Next, I tried the jikhwa stir-fried octopus. Looking at the plate, there were plump pieces of octopus. Want to see the size of the octopus?

![Charcoal-grilled stir-fried octopus with plump pieces of octopus](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu-16-1aywl-900.webp)

I picked up a piece cut into bite-sized portions and tried it. The octopus wasn't too chewy, with a nice springy bite. The seasoning is on the spicy side, and since it's grilled over open flame, there's a subtle smoky note too. There was cabbage mixed in as well, and eating it with the octopus gave a nice crisp texture.

## Chuncheon-style makguksu (chilled buckwheat noodles)

Time for the makguksu (buckwheat noodles).

![Makguksu topped with egg strips and crumbled seaweed](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu-17-16pjy-900.webp)

![Chuncheon-style makguksu mixed with sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu-18-oo1j5-900.webp)

Egg strips, vegetables, and crumbled seaweed are spread evenly over the noodles. The sauce is served separately, so you can mix it to your taste. With plastic gloves on, I mixed the noodles, sauce, and vegetables together evenly. You don't have to travel all the way to Chuncheon — you can get a good taste of Chuncheon-style makguksu right here at Obongjip Beombak-jeom. It has a tangy, clean flavor, and the noodles go down easily. Eating it alongside the stir-fried octopus or bossam made for a great pairing.

![Stir-fried octopus with rice, bean sprouts, and crumbled seaweed](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu-19-1qldk-900.webp)

## Mixing rice into the stir-fried octopus

The sauce goes so well with rice that you end up eating rice alongside the octopus rather than just eating the octopus alone. With bean sprouts and crumbled seaweed on hand too, I added the stir-fried octopus into the rice and mixed it up.

![Octopus bibimbap made by mixing rice with stir-fried octopus](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu-20-13pg4-900.webp)

If you've had the stir-fried octopus, you should definitely try the octopus bibimbap too. It'd be a shame to skip it just because you're full. You don't need to order a separate dish — just add an extra bowl of rice and mix it with the stir-fried octopus. Adding rice to the spicy octopus sauce, along with the crunchy bean sprouts and nutty crumbled seaweed, really revives your appetite. Even when full, a whole bowl of rice disappears surprisingly fast.

It's great to eat the makguksu on its own, but try topping it with a piece of bossam meat too. The mild bossam pork paired with the spicy, tangy makguksu works really well together. Having bossam and stir-fried octopus for a meal while also enjoying makguksu meant getting to taste a bit of everything, which I really liked. Next time I come to Obongjip, I think I'll have the makguksu again alongside the bossam or stir-fried octopus.

![Coffee served as dessert after the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu/obongjip-beombak-nakji-bossam-makguksu-21-ydjlb-900.webp)

### Free coffee after the meal

After finishing the meal, coffee was ready too. After a filling meal of spicy stir-fried octopus, I wrapped things up cleanly with a cup of coffee. Getting coffee for dessert made the meal feel a little more leisurely.

## A walk in Neighborhood Park No. 198 after eating

After eating, try taking a slow walk around No. 198 Neighborhood Park across the street. Feeling full and not quite ready to head straight home, I took a stroll there, which was good for helping digestion too. Walking through the park, I got to see hydrangeas still blooming beautifully. After a delicious meal and a light walk, the day wrapped up on a nice note.
