## In short

Hoega is a sashimi takeout restaurant on Beonyeong-ro 43beon-gil near Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. Traveling with a dog and unable to find a pet-friendly sit-down sashimi place, the writer ordered a small mixed sashimi platter and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) from Hoega for ₩60,000, and the owner asked what time they planned to eat, then froze the mulhoe broth solid so it still had ice floating in it 2-3 hours later. For sashimi near Sokcho Beach and Jungang Market without tourist-trap prices, Hoega takeout is the answer.

Gotta swing by Gangwon-do regularly, and today it was Sokcho again — with my dog this time. But seriously, why oh why are the sashimi restaurants near the beach in Sokcho always so much more expensive? Anyway, on this Sokcho trip I found a great-value sashimi takeout spot, so here's the review right away.

## Hoega Sokcho hours and takeout cutoff

Hoega in Sokcho is open daily from 11:00 to 22:30 and closed every Wednesday. Dine-in orders are taken until 9pm, and takeout orders until 10:30pm.

## Small mixed sashimi + mulhoe set for ₩60,000

I got a small mixed sashimi platter and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) packed to go from Hoega, and it came to ₩60,000 total. The spread was insane, the portion huge, and the sashimi super fresh — I'm definitely coming back here for sashimi takeout from now on. The mix was halibut, rockfish, flounder, and marumi. Seems like the composition changes every time.

Quick shots of the menu board and the dining area. Since they specialize in takeout, there's a whole stack of individual takeout containers, and everything feels systematically optimized for packing orders — a true Sokcho sashimi-takeout specialist.

## Why Hoega takeout is the answer when traveling with a dog

The stacked takeout containers in the back. At places that mainly focus on dine-in, ordering takeout can be a letdown — smaller portions, fewer sides, that sort of thing. But as you can see, Sokcho Hoega packs it just as generously as if you were eating in-store.

The reason I got takeout today was that I couldn't find a proper dog-friendly sashimi restaurant in Sokcho. Even more recommended for anyone traveling with a pet.

They also packed basic side dishes and even wet wipes separately, which confirmed they really are takeout specialists.

The sashimi selection was great, the portion huge, plus the mulhoe on top — such a great-value sashimi takeout spot, this Hoega.

No fishy smell at all, super clean, and they even packed plenty of fish fins under the lemon.

### Ojingeo-sundae and abai-sundae set alongside

Since you're in Sokcho, you've got to try ojingeo-sundae (stuffed squid sausage) and abai-sundae (blood sausage) too — both were set out with the meal.

![Generous sashimi spread meant for two people](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth-15-jfx5z-900.webp)

This was for two people, and honestly, is this portion even fair lol. The slices were cut nice and thick with good texture, and the sashimi condition was excellent. I'm a hardcore chojang (spicy vinegar sauce) person.

![Sashimi dipped in chojang sauce with a dry beer](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth-16-9gjz4-900.webp)

Absolutely insane, ah I want to eat it again already. Recently I'm obsessed with dry beer. Blogging and hunting down good restaurants keeps giving me more places I want to revisit — that's a pretty nice thing about it.

![Sushi rice and wasabi served alongside](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth-17-quz6i-900.webp)

They also gave us sushi rice, so I put wasabi on the sashimi and dipped it in soy sauce. So good.

![A thick-cut piece of flounder sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth-18-j9a57-900.webp)

The flounder was chewy, crunchy, and thick — makes me drool just thinking about wanting more. My boyfriend and I both kept raving about how good it was as we ate. Usually at sashimi places, especially in Sokcho, Gangwon-do, Yangyang, Goseong areas, even delivery orders come out way overpriced. But here the price is genuinely reasonable, and I love that.

![Remaining mixed sashimi plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth-20-bgz9o-900.webp)

Not just takeout — delivery is available too, so instead of getting ripped off by some random sashimi place on Baemin, order from Sokcho Hoega.

![Takeout container of mulhoe with a whole abalone on top](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth-21-10t3e-900.webp)

## Abalone mulhoe made with frozen broth

Hoega's mulhoe comes with a whole abalone on top. The thoughtful owner asked when we planned to eat it, and when I said 2-3 hours later, they prepared the mulhoe broth completely frozen — so even after playing in the water and letting time pass, I still got to eat an ice-crystal-topped, refreshingly cold mulhoe.

![Hoega mulhoe topped with ice crystals](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth-22-10jug-900.webp)

![Close-up of the mulhoe broth and fish](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth-23-8qqey-900.webp)

Personally, I think the broth is what makes or breaks mulhoe, and I'm not a fan of overly sour ones with too much chojang flavor — but Sokcho Hoega's had just the right amount of chojang taste with a deep broth flavor, spicy-sour-sweet in perfect balance. Even the broth alone won me over.

![Abalone and fish inside the mulhoe](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth/sokcho-hoega-dog-trip-frozen-mulhoe-broth-24-1ishf-900.webp)

The whole abalone on top made for a nice chewy bite, and the amount of fish inside was substantial too — plus even though the sashimi platter earlier was the small size, there was plenty left over to add into the mulhoe. If you're heading to Sokcho Jungang Market or Sokcho Beach, skip the rip-offs and order from Hoega. Trust me on this... try it, try it!!
