## In short

Hongrad Mangpo Station Branch is a spacious, cozy café near Mangpo Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. I tried a 6,000 won decaf Americano and a 7,500 won Hongrad Brownie while checking out solo seats with outlets, window tables, and sofas. Verdict: a café I want to revisit when I need to focus alone with coffee and dessert.

## A café near Mangpo Station that is easy to visit alone

The alleys around Mangpo Station are packed with restaurants, and most tend to be chosen for company dinners, so cafés nearby rarely make much room for solo visitors. Hongrad Mangpo Station Branch (홍라드 망포역점), where I visited, is of course lovely with a group—but it also has a coziness that feels even better alone, so I could relax and spend time there comfortably.

![A space at Hongrad Mangpo Station Branch that is great for staying alone](https://img.superchart.com/images/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad-01-6w71b-966.webp)

Hongrad Mangpo Station Branch is about 100 m from Exit 6 of Mangpo Station by subway. You do not need to remember Exit 6 specifically, though, since it is close to Exit 7 too. In short, it is in the Mangpo Station dining alley area.

When you enter the restaurant alley from Exit 6, it is on the fourth floor of the building on the right with NongHyup Mangpo Station Branch or the Yangsimso restaurant.

Inside that building, there is a large sign saying “Elevator.” It says Hongrad Mangpo Station Branch is on the fourth floor of Dodam Building. I took the elevator that was more immediately in front of me than expected and pressed 4 with feeling. Thump thump.

I expected the café to appear the moment the fourth-floor doors opened, but huh? A hip, atmospheric space that somehow made my heart flutter appeared instead. It was not merely an old TV: it was set up to show the person at the door directly on screen. Its distinctive fuzzy picture quality made me feel as though I were watching the Reply series. Warm and wistful—

On the right is a poster for the time sale. Kaya toast and an Americano are ₩9,900, offered on weekdays from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. That is exactly when you start thinking about a little brunch, and considering brunch prices these days, it is an eye-catching price.

Turn right and Hongrad finally comes into view. The middle corridor gives a nice sense of transition from the entrance into the café, while the blinds on the left reveal a peek of the interior—or let the whole front open up at once. It is a space with lots of different moods.

Along the way, I spotted neatly arranged blankets, water, paper cups, and more. The owner must be a very tidy person.

## A spacious café, from window seats to solo study tables

From in front of the counter, Hongrad Mangpo Station Branch has seats facing the windows, seating for chatting, and tables and chairs farther inside. But that was not all of it. I was impressed by how spacious it was, then headed to the counter to order first.

An American flag and Charlie Brown caught my eye in the kitchen. It has a relaxed atmosphere that does not feel overly styled, and seeing adorable Charlie Brown gave my sense of affection a little boost—

I chose the Decaf Americano for ₩6,000 and the Hongrad Brownie for ₩7,500. I was tempted by best-selling Summer Latte, Coconut Latte, Bear Einspänner, and tea too, but after much deliberation, I thought the brownie bearing Hongrad’s name would go well with a clean decaf.

The cakes looked so good that I wondered if I should have ordered one instead of the brownie, but I can just come back next time, haha.

With my order placed, I finished looking around. I visited between 10:40 and 11:00 a.m. on a weekday, so I could comfortably check out every corner. American-style décor everywhere—

Following the light, I found a spot with a lovely view. The blinds let in just the right amount of sunshine while still allowing you to look outside, making it feel warm. I noticed lots of pairs choosing this area—

![Two-person seats with blinds and a window](https://img.superchart.com/images/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad-15-oowrt-966.webp)

The space that especially stole my heart felt separate from the rest. It was neat, had a great view outside, and seemed like a wonderful place for a group to talk comfortably. Some people may find chairs like these uncomfortable, but there are other seats too. The soft caramel-colored sofa seats are where I would want to chat about absolutely anything with close friends, in that posture where you cannot tell whether you are sitting or lying down.

While one space was dominated by brown tones, another felt a little brighter. It has a quite pleasant view toward the Mangpo Station dining alley.

Between them are charming little objects. They are products actually for sale, and I think they play a big part in giving the café a relaxed, vintage-shop-like atmosphere.

![Colorful vintage items for sale](https://img.superchart.com/images/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad-17-18j2j-966.webp)

Look closely and you will find even more colorful, pretty things. If you would like to buy something, just ask the owner. There are cute keyrings in the back too. The owner’s eye for choosing these smile-inducing little cuties is so good!

The better-lit area is one solo visitors cannot help but love. It is divided into individual sections like a reading room and has lamps, but it is not fully enclosed like a bar, so it offers just the right openness and comfort. Beyond the wall-side solo seats, there are bright spots lit by a large window, and these are a bit roomier than the wall-side ones.

More and more customers arrived after I did, and I saw solo visitors using the space in different ways according to their needs and preferences: people looking for somewhere to focus, or people alone with lots of belongings who wanted extra room. The left side has lamps and the right side does not, so you can sit according to your preferred mood. There are outlets too, so people studying with coffee, job seekers, and exam takers would probably claim these seats first. They are especially the kind of seats laptop users would want to snap up right away.

This bright-feeling area has several potted plants, making it feel even fresher and lighter.

After looking around, I sat down and looked at the pager. It listed smartphone charging, where to find tissues, wet wipes and water, and the restroom location. Not essential, but such nice information to have. The owner pays attention to even the smallest details—

I chose the seat furthest in the corner. It felt the most cozy, and being able to lean against the wall was completely my style.

The interior as seen from my seat. My solo seat is on a lower level, about one step down, so the other spaces look relatively higher.

## The decaf Americano and Hongrad Brownie pairing

At last, my pager buzzed. I happily zipped over to pick up my order. I already love hot coffee, and with the cold wind beginning to set in for real, I ordered a warm decaf Americano.

![Warm decaf Americano and brownie](https://img.superchart.com/images/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad-21-q3u3g-966.webp)

An Americano and brownie: a pairing that cannot possibly taste bad, plus five drops of Charlie Brown’s cute smile and one drop of flair from the tray, banana, and plate colors. It felt as though the cloudy weather were clearing.

![Coffee and brownie on a Charlie Brown plate](https://img.superchart.com/images/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad-22-sjau6-966.webp)

The warm lighting made me think that coming here in winter for an Americano and brownie would be truly blissful. Now, let’s really dig in! Fork unwrapped!

Despite being decaf, the Americano had a satisfyingly full-bodied flavor, and I could clearly taste its acidity too. Perhaps the warmth added to that, but with the sweet brownie, the balance was especially good.

![Brownie served with ice cream and banana](https://img.superchart.com/images/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad-23-1t4oh-1200.webp)

Warm, soft brownie; cool, sweet ice cream; and ripe banana. It kept making me repeat one sip of coffee, one bite of brownie. The perfect pairing where neither can be skipped! It was coffee and dessert that made me think I had come to the right café near Mangpo Station.

![A café seat for enjoying coffee and dessert](https://img.superchart.com/images/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad/mangpo-station-solo-cafe-hongrad-24-1lg41-966.webp)

As I leisurely spent time there, I thought people would want to seek it out no matter what floor it was on. The music is tasteful without being loud, so it does not interrupt conversation and puts you at ease. The space is wide and open, with many seating choices to suit different groups and tastes. It also means people studying with coffee, preparing for exams, or working on laptops can stay confidently without feeling self-conscious. With varied coffee and desserts too, it makes the time you spend there even richer. So really, what reason is there not to go?

When I need a little breathing room in everyday life, or when I need to focus alone but also want something delicious, I want to come back again. Probably very soon, actually—but next time, I want to try the refreshing Peach Oolong and a cinnamon croffle too. They are reserved in my heart—
