## In short

Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch is a buckwheat makguksu (cold buckwheat noodle) restaurant with house-made noodles, right in front of Sokcho Beach. On a weekend lunch the order was perilla oil buckwheat makguksu at 13,000 won, a large buckwheat makguksu at 11,000 won eaten like water makguksu with plenty of dongchimi (radish water kimchi), and a single serving of suyuk (boiled pork) at 17,000 won. The line at Sokcho Topgol Makguksu starts around 11:30 a.m., so arriving before then makes the meal far easier.

While traveling in Sokcho I wanted makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles) for lunch, so I went to Sokcho Topgol Makguksu Main Branch! It's near Sokcho Beach so it's easy to swing by after looking at the ocean, and it's known for its perilla oil buckwheat makguksu, which made me curious. I ordered both the perilla oil buckwheat makguksu and the basic buckwheat makguksu, so here's my review!

Since it was the weekend, there was no wait until 11 a.m., but a line started forming from 11:30 a.m. There are comfortable seats inside for waiting, so it's convenient!

## Sokcho Topgol Makguksu menu prices and the basic table setting

Besides makguksu, there's a generous lineup of side dishes too — boiled pork, potato pancake, acorn jelly, even buckwheat dumpling soup, right?

- Buckwheat makguksu ₩10,000
- Buckwheat makguksu, large ₩11,000
- Pollack salad buckwheat makguksu ₩13,000
- Perilla seed buckwheat makguksu ₩13,000
- Perilla oil buckwheat makguksu ₩13,000
- Buckwheat dumpling soup ₩12,000
- Boiled pork (suyuk), 1 serving ₩17,000
- Boiled pork (suyuk), large ₩30,000
- Potato pancake ₩17,000
- Acorn jelly ₩17,000

Knowing they freshly mill and cook the buckwheat noodles right after ordering made me even more excited, so I ordered boiled pork, buckwheat makguksu, and perilla oil makguksu!

The basic side dishes were julienned radish and yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), and both paired really well with the buckwheat makguksu!

If you need more side dishes, there's a self-serve corner, and there's even a microwave for baby food, so lots of families come here too!

It's just a photo of makguksu, but can you tell how nutty it smells?

## Perilla oil buckwheat makguksu, 13,000 won: nutty enough for kids

![Perilla oil buckwheat makguksu topped with perilla powder, seaweed flakes, and perilla leaves](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch-10-9frdm-966.webp)

The one I was most looking forward to — perilla oil buckwheat makguksu! Perilla powder, seaweed flakes, and perilla leaves are piled on top of the noodles, drizzled with perilla oil for a nutty aroma that spreads through the bowl! There's no spice at all, so even kids can eat it!

![Evenly mixed perilla oil buckwheat makguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch-11-i4a28-966.webp)

Mixed evenly, the first bite hits with nutty perilla oil first, followed by the clean, plain flavor unique to buckwheat noodles! The perilla seeds pop slightly between your teeth adding to the nuttiness, and the salty savor of the seaweed flakes blends with the perilla leaf aroma to make it even tastier.

![Springy buckwheat noodles lifted up with chopsticks](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch-12-1sesl-966.webp)

The noodles had no sogginess, staying springy and soft, so the more I chewed the more the savory buckwheat flavor came through, and it was easy to eat all the way through without feeling heavy! Halfway through I added a little dongchimi broth, and the deep nuttiness of the perilla oil combined with the cool, tangy dongchimi made it even better! Adults would love this flavor too — totally satisfied!

## Large buckwheat makguksu with dongchimi poured in, like water makguksu

![Large buckwheat makguksu with red seasoning](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch-13-7mu44-966.webp)

The buckwheat makguksu comes with a red seasoning, and you add dongchimi broth to taste.

At first I added just a little dongchimi and mixed the noodles and seasoning evenly! Judging by the seasoning color it looks quite spicy, but the actual taste hit sweet and tangy first, and it paired perfectly with the boiled pork I ordered alongside! With the seasoning evenly coating the chewy buckwheat noodles, each bite brought more tang and buckwheat nuttiness, and adding more dongchimi let you enjoy it almost like water makguksu — I liked that too!

## Suyuk for one, 17,000 won: what comes on the plate

![Solo boiled pork platter served with pollack salad and buckwheat makguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch-15-f1t3u-966.webp)

The solo boiled pork was perfect as a side, coming with tender pork, pollack salad, buckwheat makguksu, chili, and garlic all together!

![A tender piece of boiled pork](https://img.superchart.com/images/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch/sokcho-topgol-makguksu-weekend-lunch-16-m26gk-966.webp)

The meat was so tender it was easy to eat, and it went really well together with the makguksu!

If you're near Sokcho Beach looking for a light, refreshing meal, I'd recommend ordering one perilla oil buckwheat makguksu and one basic buckwheat makguksu! A Sokcho makguksu spot worth recommending — Sokcho Topgol Makguksu 👍
