## In short

Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch (다선칼국수 본점) is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) and kal-nakji (spicy octopus noodle soup) restaurant a short walk from Suwon Station. The order was kal-nakji for two in the basic spice level, an added pork platter for 6,000 won, and seafood pancake, and the standout was the staff quietly swapping the child's barley rice side from spicy radish salad to gim (seaweed flakes) and sesame oil. No dedicated parking, but a nearby café validation trick made it easy — a satisfying meal with a kid in tow.

On a day I was craving something hot and spicy near Suwon Station, I stopped by Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch.

The menu ranges from kalguksu to kal-nakji (spicy octopus noodle soup), pork, dumplings, and seafood pancake. We ordered kal-nakji for two, added a pork platter, and got a seafood pancake too — came out well fed.

Eating there, I was struck by both the skill in the food and how attentively the staff looked after us. Since we went with our kid, I especially remember the thoughtful service — plus a parking tip I only learned because we drove. Let me be honest about all of it. 😊

Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch is within walking distance of Suwon Station.

When I visited, we luckily got seated with no wait — but customers kept streaming in the whole time we ate.

At the entrance, there was also a sign noting the restaurant's appearance on SBS Live Today.

## Barley rice side dish: gim and sesame oil for the kid

After ordering, while we waited, they brought out barley rice mixed with sesame oil, portioned for each person.

Mixed with radish salad and gochujang (red chili paste), it made a great appetizer before the kalguksu arrived! But here's the part that quietly touched me. 🩷

Since we came with our child, they served her barley rice with gim (seaweed flakes) and sesame oil instead of the spicy radish salad — without us even asking. That kind of instinctive care for a kid's palate felt genuinely thoughtful.

When you're eating out with a kid, a small gesture like this really stands out. It's not just the taste of the food — the owner's kindness is what stuck with me.

## How spicy is the basic kal-nakji?

Our main order was kal-nakji for two in the basic spice level. Kal-nakji can only be ordered starting at two servings, and we went with the basic spice — about as spicy as Shin Ramyun — with broth.

![Kal-nakji for two in basic spice at Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-kids-parking-tip/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-kids-parking-tip-10-1jfo2-900.webp)

![Kal-nakji broth and noodles with octopus and clams](https://img.superchart.com/images/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-kids-parking-tip/suwon-dasun-kalguksu-kids-parking-tip-11-cke80-900.webp)

The portion is generous right off the bat. 😊 It included octopus and clams, but what really suited my taste was how the broth soaked right into the noodles.

There was no sense of the broth and noodles being separate — every bite of noodle carried that spicy kick with it, and it was genuinely delicious. At Shin Ramyun-level spice, it wasn't overwhelming, just pleasantly sharp, and the hot broth kept pulling me back for more.

On the way out, I finally noticed a phrase on the entrance sign I'd missed before: 'the original hangover kalguksu.' Yeah. I'll give them that one 👍

I hadn't noticed it before eating, but after the meal I understood exactly why they call it hangover kalguksu. That spicy, hot broth felt like something I'd crave again on a day I needed to settle my stomach.

## Tender pork platter and crispy seafood pancake

I wanted to try the pork too, so I added the pork platter for 6,000 won. The kal-nakji portion is already generous, so ordering a full plate of pork separately might feel like too much — but being able to add it on like this was great. And the pork was really tender and soft.

Topped with a little salted shrimp, it paired perfectly. The combination of spicy kalguksu with soft pork was also great.

We also ordered seafood pancake as a good side to go with the kalguksu.

The outside came out nice and crispy, with great texture. Personally, I would have liked a bit more seafood in it, but a bite of crispy pancake paired with the spicy kalguksu broth worked really well together.

Overall I got a strong sense of skilled cooking, and I'd definitely like to try the dumplings next time since we didn't get to this visit. The kal-nakji and pork suited my taste well, but it was the thoughtful attention to our child that made me want to come back.

## Parking tip if you're driving

Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch has no dedicated parking lot, so it's worth planning ahead if you're driving.

I used the nearby A Twosome Place Suwon Rodeo branch. At the time, ordering one iced Americano got me 1 hour of free parking, and since we got seated at Daseon without a wait, we were able to leave without any extra parking charge.

That said, at the time there was an extra charge of 3,000 won per 30 minutes past the first hour, so be careful if you're visiting during a wait-time period. Parking conditions and rates can change, so please check before visiting.

If you're near Suwon Station craving something hot and spicy, the kal-nakji and pork combo at Daseon Kalguksu Main Branch was a solid choice. Both my husband and I really enjoyed the kal-nakji and pork, and the thoughtful care they showed our child made it even more memorable. Next time, I want to go back to finally try the dumplings we missed this time. 😊
