This time I was trying to figure out what to eat for lunch with my dad near Phoenix Park and Bongpyeong Market in Pyeongchang,

and locals kept saying that if you're looking for things to do in Bongpyeong, buckwheat noodles are a must-eat...? If it were just me I'd have gone anywhere, but since I was with my parents I looked for somewhere that seemed a bit nicer.

I hadn't planned this ahead so I didn't have high expectations, but the space was spacious, the tables had good spacing, and the food was clean-tasting, so it was comfortable to bring my parents along. Let me show you how it went!

## Easy parking at Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon, near Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang

Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon has a wide parking lot across the street, so parking was easy. Honestly, we went around noon on a weekday, right at lunchtime, so I was worried there'd be no seats. Luckily we got in right away without any sweating it out.

## Inside Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon: 3 private rooms and high chairs

Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon has a spacious hall and 3 private rooms. As soon as I opened the door, I was surprised at how much bigger it was inside than I expected.

The tables weren't crammed together either — there was decent spacing between them, so it didn't feel stuffy even with a lot of people. I assumed everyone was a tourist like us, but from the conversations I overheard, plenty of locals come here too.

There were also 3 separate private rooms in the back, which seemed great for groups. If you're coming with family or want to eat a little more comfortably with your parents, that kind of space matters more than you'd think.

High chairs were also available, and everything felt clean and pleasant overall, so it seemed like a place you could bring a kid without stress. The restroom was inside too, so there was no need to step outside mid-meal — convenient in every way.

## Ordering from the table kiosk without leaving your seat

Every table at Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon has its own kiosk, so we could sit and browse the menu slowly before ordering.

We went with the buckwheat noodles as the signature dish plus memil-ssak suyuk (boiled pork with buckwheat sprouts). Since we'd come all this way, I figured we should really eat buckwheat food, so I got a little greedy and picked a few extra things haha.

## Memil bibim guksu and memil guksu: the mild taste dad liked

The food came out fast too — great, no waiting around! It was plated in pretty bowls, and since it was a noodle dish I'd never seen before, it was fun just looking at it...

At first I thought the portions looked a bit small since they weren't piled up mountain-high, but once we actually ate, it turned out to be just the right amount for one meal without feeling like too much.

What I noticed eating both dishes was that although they're similar to naengmyeon (cold noodles), the seasoning isn't overpowering. The memil bibim guksu noodles had a slight chewiness, and the sauce wasn't slathered on thick, so it wasn't intensely spicy.

As you can see, it's just lightly coated on the noodles, so you get a hint of savory flavor without it being overwhelming to eat to the last bite. It leaned more toward clean and mild rather than punchy and bold, and my dad actually said he preferred it that way.

The regular memil guksu also came with broth, but it wasn't the kind that submerges the noodles completely!

It felt unfamiliar at first, but after tasting it, I realized that amount of broth was exactly right — because it let the buckwheat flavor come through fully.

Personally, this broth is exactly my taste... haha. Piling a bit of noodles with the sprouts on top is the real move.

### Why memil-ssak suyuk beat the buckwheat pancake

The suyuk (boiled pork), eaten together with the side dishes and sauce that came with the buckwheat sprouts, tasted different from the suyuk I already knew.

Most of all, I liked that it wasn't all fatty meat. The lean-to-fat ratio was balanced, so the texture was good.

I originally planned to order the buckwheat pancake but got this instead — and I'm glad I ordered it as a side. If you're like me, looking around Bongpyeong for things to do with your parents and searching for a place to eat, this one's a good pick. 👍

## Expect a wait on Bongpyeong's five-day market days

When I went, we got lucky with plenty of open seats and no wait,

but I was told that on days when Bongpyeong Market's 5-day market is running, the area gets crowded and there's always a wait during meal times. Talk about bad timing if it lines up... If your visit overlaps with market day, it might be worth heading over a bit earlier than planned.

## 7 minutes by car from the Lee Hyo-seok Literature Museum

What I liked about Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon was how many attractions are nearby to pair with a visit — Pyeongchang's Phoenix Park, Hyoseok Culture Village, Muyi Art Museum, Herb Nara, Yukbaekmajigi, and more.

So it makes for a good route — check out one or two Bongpyeong sights, then head over for a meal. Actually I'd just been to Hyoseok Literature Museum and was getting hungry around then, so it naturally became my lunch stop — and it turned out to be just 7 minutes away by car!

## Is Bongpyeong Memil Migayeon worth a stop near Phoenix Park?

The seasoning wasn't too strong and everything was on the milder side overall, so it was easy to bring my parents, who prefer eating something gentle over something spicy.
