With the weather cooling down lately, I've been spending weekends taking my kid out to parks for walks and light exercise. This time too, after playing energetically with my kid at Baegot's Hanul Park and Saengmyeong Park, I suddenly got hungry. Looking around for somewhere near the parks, I ended up at Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch. From hamburg steak to pork cutlet to pasta, they had a variety of menu items that work well for eating with kids, so it seemed like a solid option for a family meal out. Let me introduce this story of a delicious meal with my family at Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch in Jeongwang-dong — from the retro atmosphere to the generously plated dishes :)

## Inside Jeongssi Hambak: a retro diner look

Even from the outside, Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch had quite a distinctive atmosphere. A dark wood-toned frame with a vertical sign engraved in Chinese characters, plus the brush-calligraphy style lettering of '정씨함박' (Jeongssi Hambak), gave off the feel of an old-school Western-style Korean diner you don't see much these days.

Once inside, the space was bigger than I expected and nicely tidy overall. What I liked most was the full glass window letting in the sunlight! With sunlight streaming through, the whole place felt bright and warm, making it a comfortable spot to eat. The chandeliers and retro-feeling tables also caught my eye.

Looking at the tables especially, I thought, we used to have a table with this exact pattern at home! Haha. The space wasn't too heavy or formal, but it was pretty and cozy — good for a family meal out and also good for a date.

## Jeongssi Hambak menu prices and add-on options

Jeongssi Hambak Baegot Branch also had a varied menu prepared. Along with their signature hamburg steak, they had pasta, pork cutlet, side dishes and drinks, making it easy to pick according to your taste. Hamburg steak can be ordered in a large size for an extra ₩4,000, and you can add mozzarella cheese for another ₩3,000. Since there were three of us, we ordered a bit of everything.

## The complimentary tteokbokki starter (and its free refill)

While we were waiting after ordering, a staff member brought us tteokbokki (spicy stir-fried rice cakes). This tteokbokki was way better than I expected, haha. It tasted exactly like the nostalgic tteokbokki from old school-front snack shops. Getting tteokbokki at a hamburg steak place felt a little unexpected at first, but after one bite, I kept reaching for more. We ended up eating so eagerly that we asked for a refill. Since one refill is allowed, anyone who wants more should feel free to ask.

## What three dishes look like on the table

While we were chatting over the tteokbokki, our ordered dishes started arriving one by one. Once everything we ordered was laid out together, the table quickly filled up, haha. The three of us had ordered the large hamburg steak, the mozzarella cheese large hamburg steak, bacon cream pasta, and cola. With hamburg steak and pasta both on the table, it looked hearty just to see. Especially with two large hamburg steaks sitting side by side, the portions looked really generous, which made me strangely proud, haha.

### The extra-large hamburg steak: how big is it?

We came here for hamburg steak, so we had to eat our fill, haha. Ordering the large size meant the portion was quite substantial from the start. The plate came loaded with hamburg steak, rice, and plenty of sauce, looking hearty just by sight. First, the staff cut the hamburg steak into bite-sized pieces for us. The knife went through it smoothly, making it easy to eat in bite-sized portions.

Cutting into the thick hamburg steak, it really did slice through smoothly. The texture of the meat was on the softer side, making it easy to cut into bite-sized pieces, and the thickness gave it an appetizing look, haha.

What I liked most at Jeongssi Hambak was the special sauce. Coating the hamburg steak generously in sauce and taking a bite, the meat and sauce came together really well. The sauce also went great with rice, so I ended up piling sauce on top of my rice too, haha. If you run out of sauce or rice, you can ask staff for a refill.

### Mozzarella cheese extra-large hamburg steak

This one is the large hamburg steak with added mozzarella cheese. The thick hamburg steak was piled high with melted mozzarella, looking appetizing just to see. As the cheese melted and mingled with the meat, it added a savory richness — a great choice for cheese lovers, haha.

Cutting off a bit of cheese and eating it together with the hamburg steak, the soft meat combined with the savory, chewy cheese gave a different flavor altogether. While the regular hamburg let the special sauce shine, the cheese version felt a bit richer and heavier thanks to the cheese.

### Bacon cream pasta, loaded with bacon

And the bacon cream pasta we ordered alongside — this was better than expected too. What I liked most was how generously the bacon was piled in. With plenty of bacon woven between the noodles, every bite came with a satisfying chew of bacon.

The cream sauce was also generous, so twirling the noodles thick with sauce gave a rich, smooth flavor. Eating just the hamburg steak alone could feel a bit heavy, but pairing it with the cream pasta made it easier to share with my kid. The sauce wasn't too heavy but still savory, so my kid could eat it without any trouble, haha.

And of course, with a meal like this, cola is a must, haha. We ordered cola too, and they gave us a separate cup of ice, so we could drink it nice and cold. Pouring cola over a cup full of ice, soda really is the perfect match for this kind of meal, haha.

Thanks to the retro interior and the full glass window letting in the sunlight, it was great for photos while eating, and fun to look around at the nostalgic props. Most of all, since my kid enjoyed the hamburg steak so much, mom and dad were satisfied too, haha.
