Manpo Galbi Uijeongbu Main Branch was where I went that day, hoping to finally have some proper meat after a while. I found it while looking for galbi in Uijeongbu, and it stuck with me because not only the meat but everything from the side dishes to the meal menu was more satisfying than I expected. It had that warm, familiar feel of a galbi restaurant, but the tables were spaced well enough that it didn’t feel cramped, so it was easy to relax over a meal. We grilled the fresh beef ribs first, and I could immediately see that the meat looked to be in good condition. As it cooked on the grill, that delicious smell rose up—and there really is something special about grilling galbi yourself. Pork ribs are best when that lightly sweet marinade has really soaked into the meat, and the pork ribs we had that day had a nice balance of marinade and meat. Once they were nicely browned on the grill, they made me think of rice, and I just kept picking up more meat haha. I especially liked that the quality of the meat was good. When choosing a meat restaurant, the marinade matters to me, but I also pay close attention to the condition of the meat itself. Both the fresh beef ribs and pork ribs were satisfying that day. When you eat meat, it is common to order one naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles) at the end and share it, but here they provide either naengmyeon or bibim-naengmyeon (spicy mixed cold noodles) for each person, which was great. We tried the naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon respectively, and the portions were neither too large nor too small—just right to have with the meat. One piece of meat followed by a bite of naengmyeon cuts right through the richness and makes you feel ready for more meat! Personally, I always have to eat naengmyeon with galbi, so it was nice not to have to worry about sharing when everyone could have one. The bibim-naengmyeon paired especially well with the marinated pork ribs. Eating only meat can start to feel a little heavy, but having the cold noodles in between made it much easier to finish the meal feeling refreshed. Overall, what I liked about my meal at Manpo Galbi Uijeongbu Main Branch was that not only the meat but all the food served alongside it was satisfying. We could enjoy both fresh beef ribs and pork ribs, and the quality of the meat was good. The yukhoe and delicious side dishes made the whole meal feel quite abundant too. With one naengmyeon or bibim-naengmyeon dish per person at the end, we could properly wrap up the meal after the meat. I think it would be even better to visit with several people and share the fresh beef ribs and pork ribs so everyone can enjoy both flavors.
