Bucheon pub with pastry pizza: People & Peoples

People & Peoples (피플앤피플즈) is a pub serving food in Sang-dong, Bucheon, about a seven-minute walk from Sang-dong Station. I visited with my husband for an early dinner of Ambrosia pastry pizza and golbaengi somyeon (whelk salad with thin wheat noodles). The crisp, layered crust and the varied textures of the whelks, vegetables, and shredded dried squid stood out, and the outdoor and terrace-style seating seemed suited to dinner or a gathering.

I like pizza made with pastry dough, so I went to People & Peoples (피플앤피플즈) in Sang-dong, Bucheon. My husband and I visited early in the evening mainly for the food, and ordered Ambrosia pastry pizza (암브로샤페스츄리피자) and golbaengi somyeon (whelk salad with thin wheat noodles).

A walk of about seven minutes from Exit 7 of Sang-dong Station brings you to Tteooreu-gil, the Sang-dong dining alley. When we visited, outdoor tables were set up along the alley, and people began gathering around sunset, giving it a lively atmosphere.

Is the seating suited to dinner or a gathering?

People & Peoples is a pub serving pizza and anju (food to accompany drinks). There were tables outside too, which looked like a pleasant option for dinner on a cool day.

I liked that the lighting inside wasn't too bright. At first, only about one other table was occupied, but more guests arrived while we ate, including people who looked like couples or coworkers. It felt like a comfortable place to come just for dinner, as we had.

If sitting outside with people walking past feels uncomfortable, there is also terrace-style semi-outdoor seating. You could sit there and still feel the breeze.

With plenty of seats and large screens at both the front and back, I thought it could work well for a gathering or a work dinner. The screens weren't lowered that day, though, so we didn't actually watch any videos or sports.

How was the golbaengi somyeon?

Before our food arrived, we were served ppeongtwigi (puffed grain snacks) as a starter. The golbaengi somyeon followed, and its nutty aroma made an impression right away.

There were plenty of large pieces of whelk, tossed with cucumber, onion, shredded green onion, and jinmichae (seasoned shredded dried squid). The mix of ingredients gave it a satisfying variety of textures.

It suited my taste so well that after one bite, I immediately told my husband to try it. I thought my family would enjoy it too, and wanted to bring them next time.

I also liked how the thin wheat noodles were cooked. I had come looking forward to the pizza, but the golbaengi somyeon turned out to be memorable too.

How did the Ambrosia pastry pizza taste, and how big was it?

The Ambrosia pastry pizza was described as a signature pizza combining pepperoni, potato, and shrimp. On the day I visited, it seemed to have sweet potato mousse in place of the potato. The plump shrimp, salty pepperoni, and smooth, sweet mousse worked well together, and there was a crunchy topping too.

The pizza seemed large enough to make a filling meal for two. We also had the golbaengi somyeon, and I thought the pizza could work for several people to share if they came here for another round after dinner.

The owner also brought us a homemade sauce to spoon over the pizza. They explained that it was a sauce used in lasagna, and it went well with the pizza too.

I often find ordinary pizza crust dry or bland without sauce. Here, the layers of pastry dough were crisp, so even the edges tasted good on their own. That crisp crust and the varied textures of the golbaengi somyeon were what stayed with me most from this meal.
