I heard there was a place where you could dip pork belly in lava fondue cheese, so I headed to Ssosam 208, a well-known BBQ restaurant near Suwon Station. Watching the pork belly grill on the huge stone plate was impressive enough on its own, but with the bubbling lava fondue cheese alongside it, it was fun just to watch.

Walking into the restaurant, the space was quite spacious.

Even with the stone plate for grilling meat taking up space, the tables were big enough that the meal never felt cramped.

As the basic setting, they brought out tofu kimchi and rice noodle soup?! This was my first time seeing rice noodle soup at a BBQ place, haha. The spicy rice noodle soup even comes with one free refill, which was nice to have when the meat started to feel a bit greasy.

What we ordered was the medium mixed stone-grill platter plus lava fondue cheese!

The mixed platter consisted of pork belly, pork neck, and cheongyeopsal, and the staff checked the stone plate's temperature and grilled the meat for us from start to finish. Thanks to that, we just got to wait for the meat to cook nicely and enjoy the meal without any hassle.

Watching the lava fondue cheese bubble away on the huge stone plate while the meat turned golden brown was really mouthwatering. The visual of the lava fondue cheese alone made it feel like it was going to taste great before I even took a bite, haha.

Maybe because it was grilled on such a hot stone plate, the meat cooked faster than I expected, and since the juices didn't escape, it stayed moist overall.

### What does cheongyeopsal taste like? The cut my child ate most

True to a well-known BBQ spot near Suwon Station, both the pork belly and pork neck were delicious, but the cheongyeopsal cut was a bit different. It's tender yet has a crunchy bite when you chew, giving it a different feel from regular meat. My kid ate the most of the cheongyeopsal too, so we ordered another round of it. I think it's a good idea to try a bit of everything with the mixed platter first, then add more of whatever you like best.

There were plenty of sauces and side dishes to go with the meat, so we enjoyed it in all kinds of ways — dipped in salt, wrapped with wild chive greens, and wrapped in lettuce.

The main reason I came to Ssosam 208 was the lava fondue cheese to dip the pork belly in! The cheese sauce had a slight kick of spice along with a deep savory flavor. The meat was tasty on its own, but dipping it deep into the lava fondue cheese added a salty, savory richness that paired really well.

I usually like dipping meat in salt the most, but this lava cheese fondue kept pulling me back in! We scraped it clean until we could see the bottom of the pot, haha.

## Stone-grilled pork skin and the kimchi fried rice finish

Curious how it would turn out on the stone plate, we added pork skin too. Pork skin can sometimes disappoint with a mushy texture if it's not grilled right, but grilling it on the stone plate gave the outside a really crispy finish!

Paired with ssamjang and roasted soybean powder, the nutty flavor and crispy-chewy texture came through, so the pork skin was delicious too.

Since we already had our meat, we had to have the K-dessert fried rice too! To finish things off, we fried up the basalt snow-cheese kimchi fried rice and left the place feeling nice and full.
