## In short

Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is a gyukatsu and omurice Japanese restaurant on the first floor of the Ajizone building at Avenue France in Gwanggyo, Suwon. A mother and daughter arrived on a weekday an hour before break time and ordered sirloin gyukatsu for 19,000 won and hamburg omurice for 17,000 won, and at Gyuen-dang the best bite was gyukatsu topped with Isigny salted butter rather than salt or wasabi. Even the daughter who used to insist only Seongsu had good gyukatsu approved, so Gyuen-dang is a definite repeat visit.

Had a long-overdue food date with my daughter. We finally got the gyukatsu (breaded and grilled beef cutlet) I'd been craving for days. My daughter always insisted only Seongsu-dong could make proper gyukatsu, but Gyuen-dang in Gwanggyo's Avenue France won her over — now we don't even need to go to Seongsu anymore. Both the gyukatsu and the omurice were seriously the real deal. Let me show you 🙌

## Gyuen-dang hours and Avenue France parking in Gwanggyo

Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is open 11:30–22:00, with break time from 15:00–17:00 (no break time on Saturdays or Sundays). Last order is at 21:00, parking is available for up to 4 hours, and it also offers reservations and group dining, baby chairs, a waiting area, and separate men's/women's restrooms.

Parking was available at Avenue France. The lot is so huge you can get a bit lost, but Gyuen-dang is easy to find if you park near the D24 zone. Just a tip for reference.

Gyuen-dang is on the first floor of Ajizone, right across from Gwanggyo e-pyeonhan, so it was easy to find. Even without that, the exterior already gives off serious Japanese restaurant vibes, so it caught our eye right away.

![Menu signboard at Gyuen-dang's entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-05-1dt5l-900.webp)

There was also a signboard at the entrance where we could preview the menu.

![CatchTable waiting device at Gyuen-dang's entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-06-1lc07-900.webp)

## Arriving an hour before break time on a weekday: any wait at Gyuen-dang?

At the entrance of Gyuen-dang, the first thing we saw was a CatchTable device confirming this is a recognized favorite. We went on a weekday, an hour before break time, so luckily we avoided the wait — lucky Vicky!! During peak hours you apparently have to be ready to wait, so an early visit seems like the answer haha.

As soon as you step inside, a Japanese-lettered mural catches your eye, giving off an authentic, dreamy atmosphere like you've actually landed in Japan. I ran the text through GPT and it seemed to have several possible meanings, but overall the gist felt like 'food prepared with long time and care'... not totally sure though haha. Anyway, it happened to be right after a wave of customers had left, so I got to capture every corner in style.

The muted wood tones with a spoonful of aesthetic added to the fireplace made it feel really atmospheric and stylish.

By the window there were also solo-dining seats, so people eating alone would be able to enjoy their meal comfortably too.

## Gyuen-dang menu and review event freebie

Gyuen-dang's signatures seemed to be gyukatsu and omurice as the flagship dishes, with a wide range of other options too — rice bowls, curry, udon, tempura — so it seemed perfect for family meals or a date.

Being a Japanese restaurant, even the review event is a bit different. They give you 2 pieces of mini okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake)~~! Definitely worth taking part in.

Since gyukatsu and omurice are the signature dishes, there were also detailed instructions on how to eat them.

First, they heat up the grill plate for you.

## Sirloin gyukatsu 19,000 won and hamburg omurice 17,000 won

The food arrived. It had genuinely been a while since I had proper Japanese food, and the gorgeous plating had both of us shooting heart-eyes across the table. Here's what we ordered.

- Sirloin gyukatsu ₩19,000
- Hamburg omurice ₩17,000

![Deep red sirloin gyukatsu plated](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-14-u98ik-881.webp)

![Side sauces and Isigny salted butter for gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-15-1ipcd-900.webp)

The fresh, deep red sirloin looked absolutely unreal. It looked so impossibly good it seemed like it would melt in your mouth even without cooking, and it came with sides of gyukatsu sauce, salt, wasabi, seasoned pickled radish, cabbage salad, miso, and Isigny salted butter.

![Hamburg omurice topped with an egg blanket](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-16-1sh29-808.webp)
*Hamburg omurice*

### Hamburg omurice: a thick patty under a blanket of egg

The omurice topped with a fluffy egg blanket also arrived, and the plating was so pretty it felt almost a shame to eat it. They even did that Instagram-famous smooth slice-open reveal haha. They also poured on plenty of tonkatsu sauce.

![Sliced omurice revealing soft, jiggly egg inside](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-17-an2hp-900.webp)

Underneath, the egg blanket was soft and jiggly. This kind of look has zero haters across ages and genders, so kids would love this dish too.

![Thick hamburg steak revealed underneath the egg](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-18-1wllo-900.webp)

Once you lift the egg blanket, an impressively thick hamburg steak appears underneath — seriously thick. The meat ratio was huge and it had a great charred flavor, so it was really delicious.

![Cross-section of the sliced hamburg steak with sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-19-188pq-900.webp)

Full of juice and meaty aroma, the combo of the soft egg and the clean-bite hamburg steak was excellent. The omurice sauce had a bit of a hayashi rice feel, exactly like what I've had in Japan — not the light, common flavor you usually run into. They really seem to know what they're doing with omurice too, a foodie-approved pick 👍

## Why salted butter beats salt and wasabi on Gyuen-dang's gyukatsu

We savored Gyuen-dang's gyukatsu slowly, two pieces at a time — the sirloin was so fresh that even lightly seared on the outside, it was clean-tasting and tender. When the solid fuel burned out mid-meal, they refilled it right away, which was a nice touch of service. They also said they'll swap out the grill plate if you ask.

![Salted butter placed on top of grilled sirloin gyukatsu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-23-1rigw-900.webp)

![A piece of sirloin gyukatsu eaten with butter on top](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu/gyuendang-gwanggyo-mother-daughter-gyukatsu-24-12zq6-900.webp)

The gyukatsu paired well with salt and wasabi too, but personally salted butter was my top pick. You don't even need to melt it on the grill — just place it on the freshly grilled gyukatsu and it melts right in, and the flavor explodes in your mouth. Absolute perfection haha.

Satisfying in both quality and value, Gyuen-dang in Gwanggyo's Avenue France even has an atmosphere that suits my taste perfectly, so I think I'm bound to become a regular. Definite repeat visit!!
