## The Okgil-dong BBQ spot my husband kept saying we should go back to every week

My husband is a bit of a picky eater, but when he actually likes a place, he's the type who insists we go back.

Among all the places, the one he kept bringing up for a while was Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch.

After our first visit, he kept saying things like "the meat there was so good, let's go again" and "next time let's really eat properly."

But our schedules never quite lined up, so we kept putting it off — until this time we had something to do in Okgil-dong anyway, and we finally made it back to Dwaeji Gongbang two months later.

This time we decided to eat more generously than last time, and went with the kids.

Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Bucheon's Okgil-dong where you can pick from several different pork cuts to suit your taste. Last time there was a wait, so this time we hurried and arrived before 5pm — we were the first customers! But after that, guests kept streaming in.

## Back after two months, this time we went with the full platter!

Actually, on our last visit we ordered the half-set. The meat itself was delicious, but it felt slightly lacking for our family.

So this time we decided not to go short again and ordered the full platter.

And sure enough, ordering the full platter gave us a noticeably generous amount.

We were a family of four including the kids, and there was plenty of meat — the kids also ate way better than expected, so it was just right for a family meal.

There's fun in grilling the meat yourselves, and with the kids picking out whichever cuts they wanted to eat, mealtime felt even more enjoyable. Last time I remembered feeling a bit wistful because it was so good but not quite enough — this time there was no such regret, and we could eat at a relaxed pace.

## The complimentary soft tofu stew

This is the soft tofu stew (sundubu-jjigae) that comes complimentary.

It's genuinely packed with ingredients and as good as homemade sundubu-jjigae — last time I polished off a whole bowl of rice with it.

This time the portion was generous and the quality was better than you'd expect from a free side, but it was a bit salty so I added a little water haha.

That was a small letdown, but once I added the water the seasoning was just right.

## With the water naengmyeon our kid picked

While we were happily eating the meat, our kid suddenly said they wanted water naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). Meat without naengmyeon just feels incomplete, right?

So we ordered a bowl of naengmyeon too. Our son wrapped it up in the meat and polished off the whole bowl with great satisfaction. Naengmyeon really is indispensable alongside grilled meat.

## A must-try specialty at Dwaeji Gongbang: grilled white kimchi

And one of the combinations I remember most fondly from Dwaeji Gongbang is the grilled white kimchi.

White kimchi is delicious on its own, but grilled golden-brown on the grill plate and wrapped together with the meat, it takes on a completely different flavor.

The savory flavor of the meat paired surprisingly well with the mild, faintly tangy taste of the grilled white kimchi. This is the combination our daughter thinks of every time she eats meat now — she calls it "that white kimchi."

## A self-serve bar we could enjoy generously

Another thing I liked about eating at Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch was the self-serve bar. When you're eating meat, sometimes you run short on wraps or side dishes — but here, there's a self-serve bar so you can help yourself to as much as you like.

Being able to eat unlimited wild garlic leaves in particular is satisfying every single time.

Even just adding wild garlic leaves to the meat brings out its distinctive aroma and tangy flavor, and since you can take as much as you want, we could enjoy plenty of it alongside the meat.

Beyond the wild garlic leaves, there was also white kimchi, lettuce, and various other wraps and sides to choose from according to taste.

It was fun how the same meat tasted a little different depending on what you paired it with.

## Now I understand why my husband kept saying we should go back

This visit came two months after our last one — and it turns out this is a spot that comedians Oh Na-mi and Kim Min-kyung have also visited.

If the half-set felt a little short last time, this time ordering the full platter meant our family of four could eat generously, and adding the naengmyeon our kid wanted rounded out a satisfying meal.

I kept thinking about this taste too, and now that we finally visited again after two months, it's confirmed — this really is an Okgil-dong favorite.

You can tell whether a place is worth it just by looking at the meat, and the quality of the meat here passes that test right away.

I personally found the pork jowl (kkodeul-sal) the tastiest. Chewy texture, great mouthfeel, absolutely delicious. Starting with the half-set and adding on more of the cuts you like also seems like a good approach.

From the meat to the naengmyeon to the grilled white kimchi, the whole family ate well and finished the meal in a good mood.
