I had some business in Ansan and was looking for somewhere nearby to eat. The weather was nice, so I figured I'd also take a walk around Bandal Island Culture Park, and while looking around I stumbled onto a famous samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) spot on Bandal Island — so I dropped in for lunch.

It's Cheongnyuok (청류옥), a premium meat restaurant already well-known around Bandal Island, run by a wholesale meat center. Sure enough, it's also famous as a spot for gatherings, work dinners, and family get-togethers.

![Homemade side dishes displayed for sale in the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheongryuok-ansan-bandalseom-bulgogi-hotpot/cheongryuok-ansan-bandalseom-bulgogi-hotpot-04-ipu87-966.webp)

Right at the entrance there's a meat fridge, and a sign declaring that choosing good meat is what they do best — you could really feel the pride in that. They even sell their homemade side dishes separately, which basically guarantees the banchan (side dishes) are going to be good.

## Interior and private rooms

![Cheongnyuok's hall with a green view through the floor-to-ceiling windows](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheongryuok-ansan-bandalseom-bulgogi-hotpot/cheongryuok-ansan-bandalseom-bulgogi-hotpot-05-nde7z-966.webp)

The moment you walk in, the spacious, comfortable interior and the green view beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows are lovely.

None of that cramped, stuffy feeling you get at typical Korean BBQ spots — the space is roomy and the chairs are cushy, which I really liked.

There are also well-equipped private rooms, which would be great for family gatherings or group dinners.

## Side dishes with zero table-setting fee

One of Cheongnyuok's biggest draws is that they charge absolutely no table-setting fee. At most meat restaurants, on top of the price of the meat, there's usually an added table-setting fee that can feel like a hidden burden — but even without one, the side dishes here are seriously generous.

And the self-serve bar is working hard too!! It was clean and hygienically run.

The side dishes ranged from sweet-and-spicy seasoned crab to salted squid, plus a chili paste that really brings out the flavor of the meat — the spread rivals a full Korean course restaurant.

## Bulgogi hot pot, cheese bomb steamed egg, and kudzu vine noodles

After some deliberation, we ordered bulgogi hot pot for two, cheese bomb steamed egg, and a large serving of cold noodles.

First to arrive was the kudzu vine cold noodles (칡냉면) in a refreshing icy broth, with chewy, springy noodles — the broth passed, the portion passed, refreshing and classic beef broth flavor.

When the hot pot came out, even before cooking I could tell the marbling on the meat was serious business, haha. It really built up my expectations.

Sure enough, after it was fully cooked, one bite and there wasn't a single tough spot — it melted in my mouth. Most of all, the seasoning was spot on. Not too salty, not too sweet, perfectly balanced — the kitchen's skill is clearly no joke.

The lettuce was soft and tender too, wrapping up the melt-in-your-mouth bulgogi endlessly — our kids ate it up happily too^^

For a side dish we went with the cheese bomb steamed egg, and wow, even the visuals were a work of art — a true classic earthenware pot steamed egg from a Korean BBQ place!!

Outside there was a banner saying soju is unlimited for daytime visits... with meat this good and this much to snack on, plus unlimited soju — I genuinely started wondering how the owner makes any money, haha.

## Restroom and parking

![Clean restroom outside the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheongryuok-ansan-bandalseom-bulgogi-hotpot/cheongryuok-ansan-bandalseom-bulgogi-hotpot-19-1rmau-966.webp)

Stepping outside to use the restroom, it's just as clean and pleasant. I like to give extra credit for this kind of basic hygiene.

I also liked that the parking lot is connected to the building rather than being outdoors. Just don't forget to register your car when you pay^^

## In summary

It was a satisfying meal — good meat handled with real skill by the kitchen, enjoyed in a clean, comfortable space. If you're looking for a family gathering spot near Bandal Island in Ansan that covers taste, atmosphere, and great value all at once, give Cheongnyuok a try. And if you're someone who enjoys daytime drinking, this is definitely one to remember!
