I find aged sashimi more delicious than live fish sashimi because of its distinctive chewiness and umami. Haeseon, where I went this time, specializes in aged sashimi near Sunae Station.

Haeseon is easy to find because it is in a large shopping building called Daedeok Plaza near Sunae Station.

When I go to a sashimi restaurant and the fish tank is dirty, I somehow feel uneasy and do not want to eat there. Haeseon is not even newly opened, but its tank was sparkling clean, so I loved the first impression.

## Seating in the two-story restaurant

It has a two-story layout, with five tables on the first floor and three on the second.

The lighting is bright and the tables are neatly set. We sat upstairs. All the other guests were downstairs, so we got to enjoy it privately.

## What comes with the ₩40,000 aged sashimi course

Haeseon has one set menu: an aged sashimi course for ₩40,000 per person. Just tell them how many people are in your party and they prepare it all for you. Looking at the course, it seemed really substantial.

## The aged sashimi course for a family of three

There were three people in my family, so we ordered the course for three. They immediately brought warm miso soup and beef-and-vegetable porridge.

Fresh sea squirt followed right away, with absolutely no fishy smell. Its fragrant ocean aroma really got our appetites going.

### Assorted sashimi with two layers of flounder

The star of the day, assorted sashimi! Wow, what a generous portion. There were eight rows, and the flounder was even stacked in two layers haha.

Just look at the gorgeous color of that chewy aged sashimi~~ It passed first on looks and quantity! They said it was prepared and aged that day, and it had great umami with flavor that came through more as I chewed.

### Name cards set up for each fish

Whenever I order assorted sashimi, I ask the staff, “Which fish is which?” when they bring it over.

But I only remember when I first hear it, then forget while eating. Here, though, they put name cards on both sides for every fish. Such a smart touch! With the names written down, I could take each piece thinking, “Ah, this is red sea bream,” and figure out everyone’s preferences too.

Scooping up some corn cheese now and then while eating sashimi is just so good haha.

Fish heads are the best, of course. This grilled fish head had more meat than it looked like it would. Kids really know good flavor, and Bangul ate it so well.

### The live octopus beef tartare that made the value clear

The biggest reason this ₩40,000 course feels like such good value is the live octopus beef tartare.

We like it, so we occasionally buy it to eat at home, and even this alone is fairly expensive. But it is included in the course—what excellent value! The live octopus beef tartare is perfect with drinks, too. There were freshly fried French fries and coconut shrimp. It is a great way to finish for kids who cannot eat spicy fish stew.

Bangul’s dad and I each added a glass of soju, then wrapped up with the refreshing, spicy broth of bean sprouts and fish head.

It was Haeseon’s aged sashimi course that naturally makes you say, “This is great value for ₩40,000.” It is near Sunae Station, so it would be good for a company dinner, and I recommend it for a family gathering with your parents too.
