## In short

Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Wondang Station Branch is a Korean restaurant in Goyang, Gyeonggi, serving stone-pot rice and salted dried yellow corvina. We enjoyed a 12-side-dish table, mild cheonggukjang, and refills of fried eggplant and japchae alongside gulbi. A lovely pick for a family meal or gathering.

I had an errand to run around Paju, so I headed out for lunch at a delicious Korean restaurant near Wondang Station!

It is on the first floor at 1445-28 Goyang-daero, Deogyang-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi, just 149 m from Exit 1 of Wondang Station on Line 3. It is open daily from 10:30 to 21:00, with last orders at 20:20.

## A Korean restaurant near Wondang Station: exterior and parking

The large parking lot was the first thing I loved when we arrived. It is close to Wondang Station on Line 3 too, so it seems convenient by public transit as well. The grand exterior with its tiled-roof decorations made me expect a hearty table of food in an inner house, just like its name!

## An interior with a hanok feel

The moment my companion and I walked in, we automatically said, “Wow, this place feels so upscale.” The clean interior and the lights designed to evoke a hanok (traditional Korean house) were beautiful. Even at weekday lunchtime, every seat was full, so I had a feeling weekends would bring a long wait.

## Tteuranchae set-menu choices and our order

- Gulbi set meal ₩30,000
- Soy-marinated crab set meal ₩30,000
- Charcoal-grilled set meal ₩30,000
- Seasoned cockle set meal ₩27,000
- Grilled mackerel set meal ₩27,000

If you are not having the Tteuranchae set meal, you can choose the Tteuranchae table meal and at least one à la carte dish. We tried the Tteuranchae table meal for two plus gulbi (salted dried yellow corvina)!

## A table-bending spread of 12 side dishes

First came the 12 side dishes, stone-pot rice, and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew). The food was neatly arranged in brass bowls.

When I eat alone at home, I usually have just one side dish with my rice 😂 But this table had a lavish 12 dishes. And then there was gulbi too—amazing!!!

![Generous side-dish spread with gulbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-hanjeongsik-borigeulbi-bapsang/wondang-hanjeongsik-borigeulbi-bapsang-10-1jovz-900.webp)

Bellflower root, seasoned seaweed, namul (seasoned vegetables), napa cabbage kimchi, garlic-scape namul, seasoned peppers, perilla-leaf namul, braised potatoes, dried-radish-green namul, lettuce, fried eggplant, japchae.... Whew... whew... There was so much food that the table practically buckled under it.

## Gulbi and mild cheonggukjang

First, I tried the gulbi, which is not something I get to eat often. It had none of that fishy smell, was not overly salty, and had such a pleasantly chewy texture!!

![Chewy gulbi enjoyed at the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/wondang-hanjeongsik-borigeulbi-bapsang/wondang-hanjeongsik-borigeulbi-bapsang-14-be0a1-900.webp)

And the cheonggukjang was incredible here. It was not salty, and the seasoning was exactly right for me. It barely had the distinctive cheonggukjang smell, and I think I liked it even more because it had the gentle flavor of doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew).

## Refills of fried eggplant and japchae

The fried eggplant and japchae that came as side dishes might be the best dishes on this Tteuranchae table. The fried eggplant is so good that even someone who normally dislikes eggplant could eat it like tangsuyuk (Korean sweet-and-sour fried meat). And the japchae went down so easily—slurp~~—that I thought this place could be famous just for japchae.

You can ask the staff for refills of japchae and cheonggukjang, but we were too full to do that 🤣 I always feel a little self-conscious about asking for more side dishes like japchae, so I loved that refills were available.

At the self-serve corner, which I liked because it had covers to keep dust out, I refilled the nicely fried eggplant once more. You can see the rice cooker in the back too, right, for anyone wanting more rice?

Another side dish I loved was the namul! I do not know its name 😅 I thought it was spinach, but it was softer than spinach, so I refilled this one too. I asked the staff member wearing a stylish fedora and was told, but I forgot.

Then I poured the green tea they provided into the stone-pot rice, topped it with a piece of gulbi, and took a bite—oh wow~~ How delicious is gulbi with green-tea rice broth~🎵 I liked that the green tea came separately in a neat plastic bottle.

I had been worn out from setting the table every day 🥲 They say food made by someone else tastes best, and I thoroughly enjoyed being served such a lovely Korean set-meal table!
