On days when I want a hearty meal in Bucheon, I always start thinking about a Korean set meal with lots of side dishes. Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang (김명주뜰안채밥상), Jungdong Branch in Sinjung-dong is a Korean restaurant where you can enjoy warm rice, a variety of side dishes, and several main dishes together, so it is also a solid option when looking for a place to eat as a group.

The menu is especially varied, making it a good fit for anyone who would rather sample a little of several things than eat just one dish. I ordered two set meals along with grilled mackerel, and enjoyed a table piled high with food. It is fairly close to Sinjung-dong Station and has parking too, so it is a conveniently located Korean restaurant in Bucheon.

## Location and hours for Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang, Jungdong Branch

### Getting there from Sinjung-dong Station

It is at 70 Jungdong-ro 254beon-gil in Wonmi-gu, Bucheon, and its hours are 10:30–21:30. It is about a five-minute walk from Exit 3 of Sinjung-dong Station, so it was easy to visit by public transportation too.

If you are visiting by car, you can use the restaurant parking lot, which is convenient. Food matters when choosing where to eat, of course, but parking and location quietly become a concern too. Since it is not difficult to find in central Sinjung-dong, that was nice. Especially for a family gathering where several people are traveling together, it is worth noting as a restaurant with parking.

## A neat, comfortable atmosphere from the outside

When I arrived, it looked larger than I expected, as though it could accommodate a group gathering as well. The exterior was neatly maintained overall, and the area around the entrance was orderly with the calm atmosphere typical of a Korean set-meal restaurant. It did not feel intimidating for a first visit, and it felt like an easy place to have a meal.

A restaurant is not only about the food; the atmosphere of the space matters too. Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang felt less like a place decorated in an overly flashy way and more like somewhere made for a comfortable meal. Being able to go straight into the restaurant after parking was convenient too.

## A spacious, tidy interior across three floors

The interior felt even roomier than it looked from outside. The restaurant uses the first through third floors, so it has a substantial overall scale, and the tables were arranged with relatively generous space. There were all kinds of diners, from pairs to families and tables of larger groups.

Because the restaurant is spacious, it did not seem like seating would be much of an inconvenience even for a larger party. The atmosphere would suit a family meal out or a gathering with many people. It was clean and calm overall, so I thought it would also be a nice place to bring your parents.

When you think of a Korean restaurant, you might picture a somewhat dated atmosphere, but this place was a neatly organized space where it was easy to eat comfortably.

## How to choose between set meals and à la carte dishes

Looking over the menu, there were more choices than I expected.

There were many options, from the foundational Tteuranchae Bapsang to a barley corvina set meal, soy-marinated crab set meal, charcoal-grilled set meal, spicy stir-fried webfoot octopus set meal, seasoned cockle set meal, and grilled mackerel set meal. There are à la carte dishes too, so you can add what you want to the basic table setting. This kind of arrangement seems especially handy when several people visit together.

Everyone can choose a menu item they like, or you can add à la carte dishes and share them. This time, I ordered two set meals and added grilled mackerel. As the dishes began arriving one by one, the table filled up in no time.

## A generous table built around two set meals

The heart of this meal was two set meals. Each set meal comes with the basic table setting and its own main dish, making it a good order for a day when you want to make sure you have a proper meal.

Rather than having only a main dish, you can eat it with several side dishes, rice, and a soup dish, creating a generous table overall. There were especially many kinds of side dishes, so it was nice to reset my palate with something different while eating the mains. There were mild dishes such as seasoned vegetables and dressed side dishes, as well as dishes that paired well with rice, making it fun to choose them one by one.

Being able to enjoy a little of so many foods like this may be one of the charms of Korean cuisine.

## Adding grilled mackerel made it even more satisfying

The dish I ordered alongside everything else this time was grilled mackerel. Grilled fish is one of those dishes that would be missed on a Korean set-meal table, and the mackerel went well with warm rice. The nicely browned mackerel had both a savory exterior and tender flesh. Put some mackerel on top of rice and add one side dish, and you can finish a whole bowl of rice before you know it without reaching for many other dishes.

With grilled fish added to a table already full of side dishes, it looked even more plentiful. Grilled mackerel would also be a good à la carte dish to add and share when visiting with several people. With two set meals and grilled mackerel on the table, it truly felt like a proper meal.

## The fun of choosing side dishes one by one

Another feature of Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang is being able to enjoy a wide variety of side dishes. The fun of Korean food is not just eating one main dish, but having small bites of rice with many side dishes, and this restaurant let me properly appreciate that kind of meal. Have a spoonful of rice with a little namul (seasoned vegetable side dish), then top the next one with grilled mackerel, then add another side dish, and before you know it you have tasted all sorts of things.

If you usually like restaurants that serve a wide variety of side dishes, this setup will probably be very welcome. It is especially convenient when visiting with family, since everyone has different favorite side dishes and a table with lots of options works much better. That made it a Korean restaurant worth considering when looking for somewhere to eat with older family members too.

## Finishing with warm rice and nurungji

Once you have eaten a fair amount of the main dishes, you naturally begin finishing the rice and side dishes slowly. What I like about this kind of Korean set meal is that, rather than feeling as if all the food ends at once, you can take your time eating small bites of rice and side dishes.

![Pot-cooked rice and nurungji to finish the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/bucheon-sinjungdong-grilled-mackerel-table/bucheon-sinjungdong-grilled-mackerel-table-11-bj56v-900.webp)

In particular, when you put grilled mackerel over warm rice and add different side dishes in between, I think you end up eating more rice than usual. To finish the meal, there was rice left in the pot to enjoy as nurungji (scorched rice), so the meal could end warmly right to the last bite. If you prefer a meal centered on rice and side dishes over strongly flavored dishes, this arrangement may suit you very well.

## Is it good for family meals or gatherings?

With its large scale and varied seating, it seemed easy to use for many situations, from dining as a pair to a family meal out. Choosing food can be tricky when eating together, but there are plenty of options to match individual tastes, from rice-friendly dishes such as barley corvina and soy-marinated crab to charcoal-grilled meat and grilled mackerel. Parking is available, and it is close to Sinjung-dong Station, so accessibility is good too.

It is a good place to visit on a day when you want a proper meal of warm rice and many side dishes rather than flashy food. After trying two set meals and grilled mackerel together this time, I was able to enjoy a generous spread from the basic table setting through the main dishes.

Next time I visit, I would like to choose another set meal that I did not try this time. There are rice-friendly dishes such as barley corvina and soy-marinated crab, as well as bolder flavors such as charcoal-grilled meat and webfoot octopus, so you can choose based on what you feel like eating that day. If several people visit, ordering one set meal each and adding grilled mackerel or another à la carte dish to share also seems like a good approach.

With a neat exterior, a spacious interior, and a varied menu, it was a nice place for a comfortable meal with family. Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang, Jungdong Branch is worth looking up on a day when you want to savor several foods slowly rather than simply grab a quick meal, or when you want to eat comfortably with your family.
