## In short

Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is a Japanese restaurant in Gwanggyo, Suwon, where diners grill gyukatsu over individual tabletop braziers. I tried tenderloin gyukatsu for 24,000 won and striploin gyukatsu for 19,000 won, each with a distinct texture and beefiness.

Verdict: a memorable first gyukatsu experience with the fun of cooking it yourself.

If you are looking for a different kind of Japanese meal in Gwanggyo, I found a place that is absolutely worth trying. I have had donkatsu plenty of times, but this was my first gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet)—and after one bite, I immediately understood why it is so popular. This time, I had a new food experience at Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch.

## A gyukatsu restaurant near Gwanggyo Jungang Station

Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is located at Gwanggyo Avenue France, so it is quite easy to get to. It is 444 m from Exit 3 of Gwanggyo Jungang Station and walkable, making it a nice stop after shopping or a date. With plenty of businesses nearby, it was also convenient to work into a meal itinerary.

Hours are 11:30–22:00 daily, with last orders at 21:00. Break time is 15:00–17:00, although there is no break time on weekends. I recommend checking Naver Place or the restaurant's information before visiting!! There may be a wait on weekends or at mealtimes, so keep that in mind.

For parking, use Zone D24 on Avenue France's B2 level; parking is free for up to four hours. Since parking in Gwanggyo is fairly spacious, it felt easy to visit for a family meal or gathering too.

## A Japanese-inspired exterior and interior

The exterior immediately caught my eye.

The red-brick building, Japanese-inspired sign, and distinctive phrases filling the windows created the feeling of being at a restaurant in Japan.

Its distinctive exterior is easy to spot even from a distance, so I think first-time visitors will have no trouble finding it!

Inside, the warm lighting and brazier-inspired décor were striking. Japanese-style lettering covers the walls, while softly glowing flame decorations add even more to the mood.

Most of all, every table had an individual brazier for grilling the gyukatsu yourself, which made me even more excited. I could see why this detail makes it so popular with people searching for gyukatsu.

## Gyukatsu and omurice on the menu

Gyuen-dang's signature dishes are gyukatsu and omurice (Japanese omelet rice).

- Tenderloin gyukatsu ₩24,000
- Striploin gyukatsu ₩19,000
- Brie cheese omurice ₩23,000
- Hamburg steak omurice ₩17,000
- Steak rice bowl ₩19,000
- Tsukune rice bowl ₩17,000
- Potato curry ₩15,000
- Atsuatsu udon ₩11,000

For a first visit, I would recommend Gyuen-dang's signature gyukatsu.

## Grilling tenderloin and striploin gyukatsu over a brazier

I ordered tenderloin gyukatsu for ₩24,000 and striploin gyukatsu for ₩19,000. The first thing I noticed when the food arrived was the vivid pink cross-section. The outside was crisply fried while the inside was served moist and rare, and being able to cook it to my preferred doneness over the personal brazier felt genuinely fresh.

### Silky tenderloin gyukatsu

I started with the tenderloin gyukatsu, and its tenderness was truly impressive. The more I chewed, the more savory juices filled my mouth. A little wasabi kept the flavor clean without any heaviness.

### Striploin with rich beef flavor and bite

The striploin gyukatsu had a different appeal. It was beefier than the tenderloin and had a satisfying chew, the kind of style meat lovers would probably prefer.

The crisp-outside, moist-inside texture was excellent, and lightly cooking it a little further over the brazier doubled its savory richness. With rice, clear soup, and salad included, it was a satisfying full meal.

More than anything, cooking the gyukatsu myself made the meal feel extra special. As someone used to donkatsu, it was a truly new experience, and it made me want to try the omurice next time too.

> Why did I only try this now?

I kept thinking that throughout the meal. It made the reason I would recommend Japanese food near Gwanggyo Jungang Station very clear.

If you are looking for a special meal not only in Gwanggyo but also near Ajou University, give gyukatsu a try, haha. I wanted to come back again even as I was leaving after the meal! 🤤

## Why my first gyukatsu stayed with me

Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is more than simply a place to eat: it is a specialty gyukatsu restaurant where the fun of grilling it yourself makes the meal special. Both the tender tenderloin gyukatsu and the richly beefy striploin gyukatsu were satisfying, but above all, this first taste of gyukatsu was more delicious than I expected and will likely stay in my memory.

I would confidently recommend it to anyone looking for a special date spot or a place for a family meal too 😊 If you are after a different kind of Japanese food in Gwanggyo, I recommend paying it a visit!
