## In short

Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Gran Passage Branch is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Green Zone at Gran Passage in Dongtan, Hwaseong. Instead of the usual mushroom kalguksu, this visit ordered the spicy algoni (fish roe) shabu with extra beef, working through the hot pot, noodles and dumplings, then cooking porridge at the table instead of fried rice to finish. For anyone who likes a spicy broth, Deungchon turns one pot into a full course and is well worth the trip.

I'd been craving spicy shabu-shabu for a while, so I headed to Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu in Dongtan's Gran Passage :) This is one of the shabu-shabu spots I've enjoyed for a long time, but instead of my usual mushroom kalguksu, I decided to try the spicy algoni (roe and eggs) shabu with added beef this time, haha.

It's located on the 2nd floor of the Green Zone at Gran Passage. It can feel a bit confusing the first time you go, but just head toward the Green Zone side with the CGV — that's where you'll find it!

## Inside Deungchon: seating and atmosphere

The Gran Passage branch had a clean, tidy overall feel. The tables were spaced comfortably apart, and there were seats big enough for groups, making it a good spot for a family meal or dinner with friends. What I liked most is that shabu-shabu is cooked right at the table, so you get to eat it hot, haha.

## What comes with the spicy algoni fish roe shabu plus extra beef

What I ordered was the spicy algoni shabu with added beef! It comes with the shabu hot pot, algoni, beef, noodles, dumplings, and fried rice all included, so working through everything piece by piece leaves you quite full. This course-like structure is actually one of the reasons I love Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu so much.

First you eat the shabu-shabu, then add the kalguksu noodles, and finish with fried rice! Getting to eat so many different things from one pot makes it very satisfying. This time, with the algoni added in, I ate even more generously than usual.

### How to cook the beef in the spicy broth, step by step

Once the broth starts bubbling, you add the beef and cook it briefly. I found it tastes best when the beef isn't overcooked — just enough to stay tender. Eating it with the vegetables in that spicy broth is exactly the flavor I love, haha.

![Bowl of thoroughly simmered vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongtan-alkkoni-spicy-shabu-porridge/dongtan-alkkoni-spicy-shabu-porridge-12-t2hcs-900.webp)

Adding the roe and eggs made the broth feel even more generous, and I think seafood lovers would really enjoy the algoni option. I usually eat a lot of vegetables when I have Deungchon shabu, and I love how they taste once they've simmered thoroughly in the broth too.

## Kalguksu noodles and dumplings in the spicy shabu broth

After working through the shabu-shabu for a while, I added the kalguksu noodles. Once the spicy broth soaks into the noodles and they cook up nice and chewy, that's really when a Deungchon shabu meal feels complete, haha.

I added the dumplings in too, and eating them with the broth was quite filling. The shabu-shabu alone felt fine, but once I got to the noodles, I could feel myself getting fuller and fuller, haha.

## Finishing with self-cooked porridge instead of fried rice

For the finish, staff will make fried rice for you if you ask, but I made porridge myself instead. I'm normally a fried rice person, but I ended up making porridge without realizing it...! It turned out nutty and delicious too.

## Is the spicy algoni shabu at Deungchon worth it?

It had been a while since I'd had Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu, and it was just as familiar and delicious as I remembered. I usually go for mushroom shabu-shabu, but this time it was the spicy algoni shabu with added beef — getting to eat through the shabu-shabu, algoni, kalguksu, dumplings and finally fried rice-style porridge made for a quite hearty meal.

If you love spicy broth, this is the kind of dish that hits the spot in weather like this~ If you're looking for a good shabu-shabu spot in Dongtan or a lunch option at Gran Passage, Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu is definitely worth considering :) Eating it again after a while, I was reminded that Deungchon really is Deungchon, haha.
