## In short

Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch is a charcoal dakgalbi (grilled chicken ribs) restaurant on Mansong-ro in Yangju, Gyeonggi, directly across from Lakewood CC. The meal was charcoal dakgalbi for two at 32,000 won plus two dessert noodle bowls, bibim makguksu and mul makguksu at 6,000 won each, with a free buckwheat pancake from the Naver receipt review event. Staff finished the grilling over charcoal so every bite stayed hot, and the pine-nut broth mul makguksu was good enough to be the main event rather than a side.

I was craving good dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken), so I went to Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch. Most people picture dakgalbi cooked on a flat iron griddle, but this place grills marinated dakgalbi over charcoal. I used to only get charcoal dakgalbi when I happened to be near Gapyeong, so I was thrilled to find a spot this close to home — I can go all the time now. My husband bragged about eating here after a round at Lakewood CC, so I went straight over.

## What the dining room at Seorak Makguksu feels like

Walking into Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch, the whole place felt clean and tidy. The tables aren't crammed together, so it seems like a comfortable spot for a family meal or a casual dinner with friends. It had that lively dakgalbi-restaurant energy but stayed clean overall, so I felt at ease the whole meal. Since it's a fairly new place, the bright interior was a nice touch.

A no-frills menu board. While I was choosing what to order, the smell of dakgalbi grilling over charcoal drifted over and seriously fired up my appetite — I nearly ordered everything 🤤😝

## Menu, prices and the Naver review event at Seorak Makguksu

We ordered charcoal dakgalbi for two (₩32,000), dessert bibim makguksu (₩6,000), and dessert mul makguksu (₩6,000). They were also running a Naver receipt review event, so we got to pick between a buckwheat pancake and two drinks — we went with the pancake. The scale of this review event is on another level. Definitely take part if you can~

The basic table setting. Any side dish you run low on, you can grab more from the self-serve corner. We went back for more lettuce wraps and refilled on the radish salad because it was so good.

### The free buckwheat pancake from the review event

The buckwheat pancake we got from the review event was grilled to a golden brown, chewy on the outside, and packed inside with a spicy, savory kimchi filling that kept pulling me back for more. The light, mild dough balanced nicely with the spicy filling — really tasty. And then, at last, the charcoal dakgalbi arrived!

## How does the staff grill the charcoal dakgalbi?

The dakgalbi at Seorak Makguksu Chuncheon Dakgalbi Yangju Branch comes pre-grilled once, then gets a second grilling over charcoal. Marinated meat is tricky to cook properly, but staff grilled it all the way through for us, and they stacked the grill plates to keep the meat warm, so we could eat it hot from start to finish.

First, I tried the dakgalbi plain. There was a faint smoky charcoal aroma, and the marinade wasn't overpowering — clean and mildly spicy. Since they only use domestic chicken thigh meat, the smoky flavor blended well with the mild taste of the chicken; the outside was golden and crisp while the inside stayed juicy, so I kept reaching for more. Charcoal-grilled dakgalbi really does have its own distinct flavor.

I was wrapping the dakgalbi in lettuce and thinking about pairing it with makguksu (buckwheat noodles) too, and right on cue, they brought the makguksu out.

## How do the dessert bibim makguksu and pine-nut mul makguksu taste?

Dessert bibim makguksu and mul makguksu. I meant to take a photo first but couldn't resist and stirred up the mul makguksu right away. The plating was so pretty too — oops, sorry about that;;

![Handmade buckwheat noodles in bibim makguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/yangju-charcoal-dakgalbi-buckwheat-noodles/yangju-charcoal-dakgalbi-buckwheat-noodles-20-ykwy0-900.webp)

The bibim makguksu is made with in-house handmade buckwheat noodles, so you can really feel that classic makguksu noodle texture, and the sauce coated the noodles beautifully for a tangy, spicy flavor I loved. The mul makguksu, meanwhile, was refreshing and clean as expected. After eating charcoal dakgalbi, the cold, refreshing broth tasted even better. Since it's made with pine-nut broth, there was a nutty richness too, so I finished every last drop of that big bowl of broth. I thought it would just be a side dish, but the makguksu alone was excellent. That's when it clicked — no wonder makguksu is right there in the restaurant's name.

## Verdict: is the dakgalbi and makguksu combo worth it?

Dakgalbi and makguksu together — perfect!!! The smoky charcoal flavor and clean taste of the dakgalbi was great, and the tangy-spicy bibim makguksu, the refreshing nutty mul makguksu, and the chewy buckwheat pancake each brought their own distinct flavor, making for a really satisfying meal. And the staff were all so kind, which made the whole meal even more enjoyable. Next time, I definitely want to come back with my family for charcoal dakgalbi and makguksu.
