## A hot meal close to Pyeongtaek Station

I suddenly had an errand in Pyeongtaek, and with my energy running low, I visited Pyeongtaek Jumulleok Pyeongtaek Station Branch (평택주물럭 평택역점) for a hearty meal. I needed to eat quickly near Pyeongtaek Station that day, and since the weather had suddenly turned cold, I was craving soup—Pyeongtaek Jumulleok was exactly what I wanted.

Pyeongtaek Jumulleok is near Pyeongtaek Station, so it is easy enough to find. It is quite close too, just about a 7-minute walk away.

It is regularly closed on Sundays, open Monday through Saturday from 07:00 to 21:00, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00. You can have breakfast here, too. There is no separate parking lot, so using a nearby public lot or public transit seems most convenient.

## Private rooms and generously spaced tables

It has private rooms, so it seemed like a nice place for a work dinner, too. The tables are well spaced, making it comfortable to eat, and the place is clean. You can see a slight trace of age, but it turns out this is a more-than-50-year-old restaurant that opened in 1973.

As a beloved local restaurant that has held its spot for a long time, it has appeared on TV several times. When a place has been featured on TV, you get even more curious about the food, right~

Each table has a kiosk, so ordering is easy. The owner was kind as well, so I could eat without feeling any pressure. The food was delicious, of course, but friendly service really does make you leave a meal feeling good.

## From meat dishes to complete meals

There is a wide variety, from meat dishes such as jumulleok (seasoned grilled meat) and samgyeopsal (pork belly) to meal dishes including galbitang (beef short-rib soup), hangover soup, and yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), so it is great for visiting with several people. As I mentioned, it would also work well for a work dinner or small gathering.

At lunchtime, they also sell a solo set meal where you can have both jumulleok and hangover soup, so lunch would be a good time to come. Jumulleok seems to be the signature, but I wanted hot soup, so I ordered galbitang and hangover soup. I should try the jumulleok next time.

## Clean-tasting, mild hangover soup

After a short wait, our hot meal arrived. I tried the hangover soup. It was not Busan-style hangover soup, which felt fresh to me, and it was delicious! It tasted somewhat like galbitang with siraegi (dried radish greens) added. The flavor was incredibly clean. They gave me an egg too, and whisking it in added a savory note.

The side dishes were kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and kimchi, which went so well with the soup~ Putting a piece of kkakdugi on the meat was heavenly. I was slightly disappointed that there were no chili peppers or garlic, though.

It arrived bubbling in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), so it looked great from the start. There were lots of ingredients in it, too~ The day had suddenly become cool and I had been craving hot soup, so I really enjoyed this.

After eating some, I added the dadegi (spicy seasoning paste), but personally, I found it more delicious without it because the flavor stayed cleaner and milder.

## Galbitang with a milky-white broth

My companion had the galbitang. The milky-white broth immediately caught my eye. They said the broth was not overpowering, with a mild flavor drawn from the beef ribs. There was plenty of meat in the galbitang too, so it looked like a truly filling meal.

The meat was so tender that it came off the bone at a touch. The glass noodles were wonderfully chewy and springy, and they had soaked up the broth beautifully. I am a total glass-noodle lover, so I kept looking at them, but I resisted because I am dieting.. If you come with friends or family, it could be nice for some people to order meat dishes while others choose meal dishes such as galbitang.

Overall, the galbitang and hangover soup I had at Pyeongtaek Jumulleok were mild and not overpowering—exactly right for my taste. Eating rice with the hot broth felt easy on my stomach, and the generous amount of meat made it a filling meal!

If you are looking for a hearty place to eat near Pyeongtaek Station, keep this one in mind! If I find myself in Pyeongtaek again, I would be willing to visit once more~
