## In short

Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch is a nakgopsae (octopus, beef tripe and shrimp hot pot) restaurant near Balsan Station in Gangseo, Seoul. Arriving by car alone for a late lunch, the writer ate nakgopsae with white kimchi and seaweed soup on the side and found the broth, rich with tripe fat and scallion oil, good enough for two bowls of rice. Easy parking and a spotless dining room and restroom make Gungmin Nakgopsae work for a solo lunch or an evening group dinner alike.

I was craving nakgopsae again so I headed over to Gungmin Nakgopsae near Balsan. It's forever the number one nakgopsae spot for me.

## Parking and the dining room at Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch

Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch was easy to reach by car since parking was available and the lot was fairly spacious — that alone made things convenient. That said, it looked like the place gets busy during lunch hours, so depending on the time you go, the lot could fill up. Still, not having to worry much about parking when eating solo was definitely a plus.

Since I went during a late lunch slot, there were plenty of signs haha that other customers had already come and gone. There were enough tables for both solo diners and groups, so it seemed like a spot a lot of office workers stop by for lunch too.

## Side dishes: white kimchi and seaweed soup

Once I sat down, the side dishes came out looking neat, and among them the white kimchi and seaweed soup were especially good. They paired really well with the spicy nakgopsae.

## Octopus, beef tripe and shrimp piled high — the broth decides it

And then finally, the nakgopsae I'd been waiting for arrived.

![Close-up of nakgopsae with seasoning on top](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking-11-10vkh-900.webp)

![A hearty pot of nakgopsae](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking-12-hteo6-900.webp)

It looked hearty just from the visual alone. Loaded with octopus, beef tripe, and shrimp, just looking at it made me think I'd easily finish a bowl of rice.

![Nakgopsae bubbling as it cooks](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking-13-rhnmz-1200.webp)

Scallions and onions were layered underneath, and apparently as it starts bubbling, the fat from the beef tripe and the scallion oil blend with the other ingredients to build the broth.

Maybe that's why the broth tasted so good. After the first spoonful I immediately went, "wow, this is good." It wasn't just spicy seasoning — the savory flavor from the tripe naturally soaked into the broth, so I kept going back for more spoonfuls.

The seasoning itself was tasty, but with the broth being this good too, it got pretty addictive. The octopus and shrimp were plump and springy, and the tripe got more savory the more you chewed, so there was fun in eating all three ingredients together.

## Nakgopsae with rice on top: a two-bowl dish

Nakgopsae really has to be eaten with rice to be done right.

![A bowl of rice paired with nakgopsae](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking-17-9sg7i-900.webp)

Piling octopus, tripe, and shrimp on top of the rice and adding a little of the broth was genuinely delicious. I thought one bowl of rice would be enough, but as I kept eating, more rice just kept going in. It's a true two-bowl situation.

### How spicy is the nakgopsae?

I liked that the nakgopsae at Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch wasn't overly spicy. It was moderately spicy without being overwhelming, so even people who aren't great with spicy food could probably handle it and enjoy it.

Personally I prefer food where you can taste both the ingredients and the seasoning rather than something that's just plain spicy, and this place delivered on that too.

## How clean are the restaurant and restroom?

The place was also cleaner than I expected.

![Neatly kept restaurant interior](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking-21-1s2c1-900.webp)

![Restroom at Gungmin Nakgopsae Gangseo Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking-22-10crl-900.webp)

The building itself looks a bit old, but when I went to the restroom it was surprisingly spotless. Whether they redid the interior or not, even the restroom was kept clean, which was a nice detail.

## Is Gungmin Nakgopsae good for a Magok or Balsan Station group dinner?

It also seems like a solid option for anyone looking for a group dinner spot near Balsan Station. Nakgopsae itself is a dish that's great for eating in a group, so it'd pair well with a drink or two if you visit in the evening.

![A section of the restaurant with a TV screen](https://img.superchart.com/images/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking/balsan-station-nakgopsae-solo-lunch-parking-24-1jjev-900.webp)

With easy parking, generous portions, and good taste on top of it all, it was an overall satisfying meal. There's also a screen, so I thought it'd be a good spot to gather with people while watching a big game.

If you like octopus, tripe, and shrimp, nakgopsae lets you enjoy all three at once, so it could make for a hearty meal worth trying.

Next time I want to come back in the evening and properly pair the nakgopsae with a drink. Definitely recommend it.
