## In short

Oneuldo Utja Chowol is a Korean restaurant in Chowol-eup, Gwangju, Gyeonggi, specializing in kimchi jjigae and duruchigi. On a return visit, I had old-fashioned kimchi jjigae with pot-cooked rice, giant rolled omelet, and glass noodles; the generous pork and chewy rice were so satisfying. Verdict: a hearty pick for kimchi jjigae, giant rolled omelet, and pot-cooked rice.

Whenever I’m thinking about what to eat around Gwangju, Gyeonggi, Oneuldo Utja Chowol (오늘도웃자 초월) is one place that always comes to mind 😊 As a kimchi lover who has returned several times, it’s one of those restaurants I can trust without hesitation! When I can’t be bothered to cook... but still want spicy, comforting kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) or duruchigi (spicy stir-fried meat) that tastes home-cooked, this is the place I naturally think of. That’s why I remember it as a great spot for both kimchi jjigae and duruchigi 🍚

## Oneuldo Utja Chowol menu and parking information

Oneuldo Utja Chowol is a Korean restaurant in Chowol-eup, Gwangju, Gyeonggi, centered on kimchi jjigae and duruchigi! The menu focuses on old-fashioned kimchi jjigae with pot-cooked rice, pork duruchigi, squid duruchigi, and a giant rolled omelet.

![Oneuldo Utja Chowol menu information](https://img.superchart.com/images/chowol-kimchi-jjigae-dolmyeong-omeuljaja/chowol-kimchi-jjigae-dolmyeong-omeuljaja-02-1eys2-768.webp)

The location feels a little out of the way, but there is a large dedicated parking lot as well as an open lot in front of the restaurant, so I’d recommend coming by car!

Even though I visited a little after lunchtime, this popular Chowol spot was packed with diners 🏃♀️🍚 Since it was the weekend, it looked like lots of groups who had finished outdoor activities often came to Oneuldo Utja Chowol for a meal together.

The restaurant was quite clean, and having an indoor restroom made the meal feel comfortable too.

## Ordering old-fashioned kimchi jjigae and pot-cooked rice

Our order on this visit was unchanged: old-fashioned kimchi jjigae with pot-cooked rice (plus glass noodles and half an extra block of tofu), along with the giant rolled omelet. I couldn’t possibly come all this way and give up my favorite dishes!

![Old-fashioned kimchi jjigae and pot-cooked rice order](https://img.superchart.com/images/chowol-kimchi-jjigae-dolmyeong-omeuljaja/chowol-kimchi-jjigae-dolmyeong-omeuljaja-06-1mwdq-773.webp)

Kimchi jjigae and duruchigi are practically side dishes for rice in themselves, so we didn’t need much else... but these were the basic banchan (side dishes) to nibble on before the stew arrived!

If you run short on side dishes, you can get more from the self-service bar, just so you know ^.~

## A generous bowl of old-fashioned kimchi jjigae

It may look like there is an enormous amount of broth, but this isn’t kimchi jjigae that is all broth. It is generously packed with tofu, pork, and kimchi.

It wasn’t only the kimchi that came in big pieces—the pork was seriously chunky too! Rather than finely chopped meat, this stew had large, hearty pieces of pork, so you could really feel the meat in every spoonful.

I think that is the special charm of Oneuldo Utja Chowol’s old-fashioned kimchi jjigae. Just looking at it makes you feel as though you could polish off a whole bowl of rice 😋

## Kimchi jjigae with a giant rolled omelet

Even sitting on the table, the giant rolled omelet had such a presence. The kimchi jjigae is spicy and refreshing, so bites of the soft omelet here and there balance the flavors beautifully.

Can you even gauge the size of this giant rolled omelet...? ㅇ_ㅇ

It is huge, but the egg itself is also wonderfully soft, making it especially good with kimchi jjigae! That’s why I always like to order the kimchi jjigae and giant rolled omelet together whenever I come here.

## Chewy pot-cooked rice, plus glass noodles

The pot-cooked rice is something everyone at Oneuldo Utja Chowol would probably love. Kimchi jjigae and omelet are already perfect rice-stealers, but add this wonderfully chewy pot-cooked rice? = heaven. It’s no secret that I kept saying, “This rice is seriously so chewy...!!!” while eating!

Freshly cooked pot rice is delicious on its own, but take a little kimchi jjigae with it... it’s a combination Koreans can’t help but love 😆

Once we had eaten some of the kimchi jjigae, we added the glass noodles 🍜🔥

![Glass noodles added to kimchi jjigae](https://img.superchart.com/images/chowol-kimchi-jjigae-dolmyeong-omeuljaja/chowol-kimchi-jjigae-dolmyeong-omeuljaja-20-1g73l-863.webp)

![Kimchi jjigae with added glass noodles](https://img.superchart.com/images/chowol-kimchi-jjigae-dolmyeong-omeuljaja/chowol-kimchi-jjigae-dolmyeong-omeuljaja-21-smorw-900.webp)

After adding the noodles and letting it boil a little longer, the kimchi jjigae broth soaked right into them. The clean, spicy flavor went incredibly well with the glass noodles too 😍

First, fish out and enjoy the big pieces of kimchi and pork~ then have it with rice, and add glass noodles midway through for a meal with a different feel. That is another delight unique to Oneuldo Utja Chowol! Personally, I totally recommend adding glass noodles if you order the old-fashioned kimchi jjigae 🍜❤️

## Ending this return visit with sungnyung

Time for the final stage! The proper ending to pot-cooked rice is, of course, sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) 😎 After a spicy, refreshing meal of kimchi jjigae, the warm sungnyung felt like a soothing way to settle my mouth. It may seem like nothing special, but ending a meal with sungnyung somehow makes the whole meal feel easier on the stomach, which I loved!

I was satisfied again on this return visit to Oneuldo Utja Chowol in Gwangju, Gyeonggi. As someone who has visited several times, the biggest plus is the feeling that I can trust the food, and the kimchi jjigae with giant rolled omelet and pot-cooked rice never gets tiresome even on repeat visits. If you are looking for a good restaurant in Chowol-eup, I recommend visiting Oneuldo Utja Chowol 🍚❤️
