Suksudaega is an all-private-room Korean restaurant in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. This place is a high-end Korean set-meal restaurant we'd even considered for our first meeting with each other's parents — every table is a private room, so you get a relaxed, private atmosphere with refined food. It's a real Pyeongtaek gem. This time we came to celebrate my parents' birthday together.

## Parking and first impressions at Suksudaega

There's a lot right in front, and if you follow the road to the right you'll find a second parking lot further in, so parking is very convenient. We came in separate cars with my parents and still had plenty of room to park.

> The exterior of Suksudaega

![Hanok-style exterior of Suksudaega](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-02-1hk59-900.webp)

![Suksudaega exterior with garden](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-03-17u44-900.webp)

It looks like a grand tiled-roof house straight out of a noble family's estate — elegant yet refined from the outside in. The entrance is neatly styled, and once you step in there's a pretty garden, nice for a short stroll or sipping coffee afterward.

![Suksudaega exterior lit up in the evening](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-04-1asp9-900.webp)

It's pretty in the daytime, but the lighting at night is done really well too, keeping that serene mood. It's a lovely spot for an evening visit as well.

## Window-side private room with a baby and stroller

Suksudaega is an all-private-room Korean restaurant, so reservations are essential! We came with our five-month-old baby — high chairs are available, but since our baby is still too young for that, we just brought the stroller and let her lie down in it. This wasn't our actual table, but we were seated at a window spot like this one, and the atmosphere was wonderful.

Looking out at the green scenery through the window made the whole meal feel so good. The light comes in beautifully, and I imagine it would feel just as lovely with rain or snow outside.

## Why we chose the weekday braised short rib set

> Suksudaega's menu and prices

![Suksudaega set-table menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-07-1msqr-721.webp)

![Suksudaega weekday special menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-08-alkr4-901.webp)

![Suksudaega menu and price list](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-09-1h1u2-910.webp)

There's an upscale course menu as well as a full set-table menu, and since we came on a weekday evening, we chose the weekday special. Suksudaega Braised Short Rib Set, ₩39,000 per person, ordered for four. The composition is quite good, and with a baby along, we figured it'd be easier to have everything come out at once rather than pacing through a slow course. For a matchmaking meeting or a more formal occasion, though, I'd recommend the course served dish by dish.

## What comes first in the Suksudaega rib set

First came porridge and dongchimi (watery radish kimchi). The sweet pumpkin porridge and tangy dongchimi as a starter really woke up the appetite.

![Pumpkin porridge and dongchimi starters](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-10-1kvx8-900.webp)

Next, all the main dishes came out at once. There doesn't seem to be a fixed order — they just bring dishes out as they're ready.

### Royal court bulgogi cold plate

Starting from the left: royal court bulgogi salad. Bulgogi sits at the bottom, topped with bean sprouts and fried burdock strips. The crunch of the sprouts and burdock paired nicely with the chewy, savory bulgogi, and the mild sesame oil aroma without heavy saltiness made it a joy to eat.

### Vinegared salad and Korean beef yukhoe (beef tartare)

The vinegar-dressed dish had squid-like seafood, flying fish roe, and sprouts wrapped in perilla leaf — it felt like a salad you could pop in one bite.

Refreshing and crunchy, it really suited my taste. Overall, nothing was too strongly seasoned, which was exactly my style.

The Korean beef yukhoe (raw beef tartare) was lightly seasoned, letting the natural umami of the beef come through — really delicious.

![Korean beef yukhoe dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-14-1vtrj-966.webp)

It came in small portions, just enough for four people to have about a spoonful each. Chewy and fresh, it was the perfect appetizer bite.

The shrimp and pine nut salad felt less like a salad and more like a one-bite canapé. Plump shrimp, fried potato, cucumber, and pine nut sauce combined into a rich mouthful — savory, tangy, and crunchy all at once. Maybe because shrimp are in season right now, they were especially plump and the sauce was fantastic.

And at the very end, a seasonal vegetable salad. The dressing here is genuinely delicious, though it was placed too far away for me to eat much of it, sadly. The lotus root dyed yellow with gardenia was pretty too, and the appetite-stirring dressing was the best.

## Warm dishes and Korean beef tteokgalbi (grilled patty)

Next, all the hot dishes came out together. They set them in the center of the table, with portions matched to the number of diners.

The royal court japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) came with burdock strips and various vegetables. A celebratory table just isn't complete without japchae. Freshly made, warm, and delicious.

The Korean beef tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) had a lightly fried, crisp exterior and was packed with juice inside. Again, not too salty — just savory enough seasoning — and so good.

One bite in and the juices burst out... eek! So delicious. Totally my kind of dish. Really enjoyed that one.

The special jeonyuhwa (pan-fried dish) felt like a perilla leaf and mushroom pancake — thin, crisp fried batter with meat tucked inside. Even slightly cooled, it was still delicious. Do eat the fried items before they go cold, though!

## Low-temperature braised short ribs and pot rice

The braised short ribs don't come out as one shared dish for four — each person gets their own bowl. The hot pot rice and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) also come individually, which makes for a clean, easy meal.

The hot pot rice was wonderfully chewy and sticky. The proper way is to scoop it out into a bowl first, pour water into the pot, and later scrape up the leftover scorched rice at the bottom. The side dishes are shared, and you can ask for more if you run out.

The braised short ribs were cooked slowly at low temperature, so tender the meat fell right off with just a touch of the chopsticks.

![Low-temperature braised short ribs](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-21-12huv-900.webp)

They give you tongs and scissors so you can pick the meat off the bone and cut it into easy bites. A piece of meat on top of a glossy spoonful of hot pot rice was pure bliss. It wasn't too salty, so my parents loved it — especially my dad, who really liked the subtle herbal note and even spooned up the sauce like soup, raving about how uniquely delicious it was.

## Birthday cake at the table and coffee to finish

For dessert, we had plum tea with pine nuts floating on top. Served cold, it felt like a clean palate reset. Since it was my parents' birthday, I asked if we could bring out a cake, and they happily said yes — I was so grateful for that.

![Birthday cake and plum tea](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-22-2nffp-900.webp)

They cleared the table neatly and we shared the cake we'd brought — an apple mango cake, sweet and tangy, perfect for dessert. The staff were so kind and attentive throughout, and they even doted on our baby, which kept us feeling good the whole time we were there.

![Beopseongpo dried croaker Chuseok gift set](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-23-1k7p8-900.webp)

Suksudaega also sells Chuseok gift sets separately — a well-known Beopseongpo dried yellow croaker set. The packaging is clean and upscale, so if you haven't prepared your gifts yet, it might be worth ordering ahead.

![Takeout coffee corner](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner/pyeongtaek-suksudaega-private-birthday-dinner-24-iiv0z-900.webp)

On the way out, there's a neat takeout coffee corner. There's even an ice machine, so you can make an iced Americano, and of course sweet mix coffee is available too! With the cool weather these days, it'd be lovely to grab a cup and enjoy it in the garden before leaving.

The food was really good, the staff were all kind, and thanks to the refined, upscale Korean atmosphere, we had a wonderful meal celebrating my parents' birthday. It was good enough that I'd happily recommend it to anyone nearby looking for a place for a special occasion or a high-end private-room Korean restaurant.
