## In short

Ari Chuksan is a butcher shop on the riverside road in Cheongpyeong, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi, selling Korean beef, Korean pork, and Wagyu. After a Gapyeong day trip, the writer bought two Wagyu skirt steaks and one short rib, got chilled Korean beef tendon and enoki mushrooms as a service extra, then grilled the meat at home and made a spicy tendon stew. A solid butcher shop for grabbing meat at the end of a trip to cook at home.

In Cheongpyeong, Gapyeong, the variety of meat was impressive — Korean beef, Korean pork, Wagyu, and more.
It was also convenient that you could buy mushrooms and vegetables alongside the meat.
After a Gapyeong day trip, I feel like I found a solid butcher shop.

## A Cheongpyeong butcher shop stop at the end of a Gapyeong day trip

On the way back from a Gapyeong day trip, I stopped by Ari Chuksan in Cheongpyeong.

I went there planning to buy meat to grill at home after the trip, and they had quite a range — Korean beef, Korean pork, Wagyu, even camping meat.

![Exterior of Ari Chuksan, a butcher shop on Gangbyeon-ro in Cheongpyeong](https://img.superchart.com/images/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib-02-16dkz-966.webp)

Kind of a funny coincidence — I ran into someone I'd seen at a Gapyeong tourist spot again, here at the butcher shop 🫢
Seeing them again in such a completely different place made me wonder if this is a spot a lot of people end up visiting.

Ari Chuksan is a butcher shop in Cheongpyeong, Gapyeong, and there was parking available right in front of the store.

It seemed like a good place to grab meat before heading home after a trip to Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong, and also a convenient stop for anyone shopping before a camping trip.

## Price list, sales, and holiday gift sets

When I visited, Korean pork front leg (sow) was on sale through Saturday at ₩5,900 per geun.
Alongside the meat, they also sold shredded scallion, lettuce, and charcoal, so it looked like a good one-stop shop before camping.

There was also a perk where, if you reserved through Naver before visiting, they'd throw in lettuce and premium salt to go with the meat.

## The in-store display case and vegetables/sauces sold alongside

Inside, the refrigerated display case had Korean beef, Korean pork, Wagyu, and more neatly arranged.

You could pick out meat by cut, already packaged, and there was a good variety suited for camping.

It wasn't just meat — they also had vegetables like lettuce, perilla leaves, peppers, mushrooms, and shredded scallion.

They also sold various sauces and seasonings for grilling.

It wasn't just a meat purchase — being able to grab side ingredients at the same time made the whole shopping trip convenient.

If you buy yukhoe (Korean-style beef tartare), you can choose between a soy-based or gochujang-based sauce.

That day I bought two Wagyu skirt steaks and one short rib.

They also threw in chilled Korean beef tendon and a bag of enoki mushrooms as a service extra.

## Spicy beef tendon stew from the free Korean beef tendon

I made the chilled Korean beef tendon into a tendon stew (sujigolbi jjigae) at home.

I also used the bag of enoki mushrooms they gave for free in the stew.

I parboiled the tendon first, then cleaned it piece by piece under running water, and simmered it spicy in beef bone broth with radish, oyster mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, tofu, and zucchini.

> Spicy tendon stew seasoning
> Red pepper flakes 3T, gochujang 1T, Korean soup soy sauce 2T, regular soy sauce 1T, fish sauce 1T, minced garlic 1T, cooking wine 2T, sugar 1/2T, a pinch of pepper

![Spicy Korean beef tendon stew simmered with enoki mushrooms and tofu](https://img.superchart.com/images/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib-08-1h7qm-966.webp)

Even after simmering for a long time, the tendon didn't turn tough — it was genuinely soft.

It had that signature chewy tendon texture but was still soft enough to eat easily with the broth.
With the enoki mushrooms added, the pot felt hearty, and we properly finished off a whole pot at home.

## Wagyu skirt steak and short rib grilled on the bedroom grill

The Wagyu skirt steak and short rib got grilled at home on the bedroom grill.

Eating meat outdoors is nice, but grilling comfortably at home on the day of a trip was also great.

I sliced up onion and potato in small pieces and grilled them alongside the meat, which went well together.

I grilled the short rib first — it had a good chew and a nutty flavor.

> Dipping sauce
> Soy sauce 2T, water 2T, vinegar 1T, sugar (substituted with stevia) 1T, minced garlic 1T, cheongyang chili pepper 1T

I'd made this dipping sauce originally for the tendon stew, but with the cheongyang chili in the soy sauce it went surprisingly well with the beef too.

![Grilled Wagyu dipped in sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib-13-ev1ng-966.webp)

I dipped both the short rib and the skirt steak in it while grilling, and it cut through the richness — a better match than I expected.

I also made fried rice using leftover broth from yeopgi tteokbokki boneless chicken feet from the day before, topped with a slice of cheese.

![Sliced cheese on top of fried rice made with boneless chicken feet broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib-15-15wcr-966.webp)

Since the fried rice was spicy, the nutty flavor of the beef paired with it better than expected — really tasty together.
And of course, a Malibu highball on the side.

### Skirt steak vs. short rib — what's the difference in cut?

The skirt steak I ate next was a bit more tender to chew than the short rib, so I could really feel the difference between the two cuts.

![Wagyu skirt steak grilled on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib-18-1tlgr-966.webp)

The skirt steak also went well with soy sauce or wasabi.

![Pork belly finally placed on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib/gapyeong-cheongpyeong-butcher-wagyu-skirt-rib-23-thvpa-966.webp)

At the end, I even pulled out some pork belly I had at home and grilled that too.
After the Wagyu short rib and skirt steak, finishing with pork belly meant I got to try quite a variety of meat in one sitting.

## Would I go back?

This was a stop on the way back from a Gapyeong day trip, and I enjoyed both the Wagyu short rib and skirt steak, plus made a proper stew with the free Korean beef tendon.
Coming home and grilling on the bedroom grill, then finishing with tendon stew, made for a satisfying meal after the trip.
Next time I'm in the Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong area, I'll probably stop by again to pick up meat.
