## In short

Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak Branch is a sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) and pork bone soup restaurant near Pyeongtaek Jije Station in Gyeonggi. On a second visit, the writer and her sister each ordered a bowl of sundaeguk and pork soup, added perilla seed powder twice, and went back for the self-bar kkakdugi (radish kimchi) twice more. Rich broth, clean-tasting head meat, and a spacious lot behind the store made it a can't-fail weekday dinner.

## Second visit, weeknight dinner with my sister

Cooking dinner on a weeknight is such a hassle and eating leftovers every day is rough too, so today it's eating out! With my husband away on a business trip, I've basically been eating out most days lately. My youngest sister was staying over, so we decided to grab dinner together before heading home.

This is the same Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Jije Dongsak Branch where I once had a bowl of sundaeguk with my husband after grocery shopping at E-mart! I remembered it being so good that I came back for a second visit >ㅁ< Proof that once you find a good spot, you keep going back~~~

### Where do you park?

The parking lot for Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak Branch is located right behind the store and it's spacious, so there's zero parking stress! No parking problems here!!!

## Uncooked takeout, ₩18,000 for two

The happiness of an uncooked takeout portion that's basically 3 servings for the price of 2, at ₩18,000! Gyeongseong Sundaeguk also does on-the-spot takeout, and I noticed a lot of people dining in also picking up sundaeguk to take home!

Even if you're dining in, uncooked takeout for 2 servings is ₩17,000 — a nice little discount if you want to take some home! Great for sharing with family or eating the next day, Gyeongseong Sundaeguk holds up well.

## The basic side dishes and self-bar — the kkakdugi is the real star

The basic side dishes are napa cabbage kimchi, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and onion, and you can grab more from the self-bar if you run out! The kkakdugi here is genuinely excellent — I went back for seconds twice!! They say if the kimchi at a sundaeguk restaurant is good, it's a truly legit spot, haha, and I fully confirm it — Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk is a certified kimchi champion~~ Even my picky-eater sister loved the kimchi and ate it right up.

The self-bar where you can grab extra side dishes is well-organized and kept clean, so you can eat with peace of mind! There are even two kinds of kimchi — napa cabbage and kkakdugi — both up for grabs.

Every table has salted shrimp, dadaegi (chili paste), cheongyang chili, and perilla seed powder! I love adding perilla powder to my sundaeguk, so I added it twice~~ That nutty, savory sundaeguk is just the best >ㅁ<

## The sundaeguk broth and head meat

Here comes the sundaeguk in its basic form! The broth is genuinely deep and rich — a real, honest broth! Simmered for a long time until it turned milky and deep, I finished every last drop of the soup. One spoonful and I felt instantly better inside — this would be perfect for hangover recovery too if you'd been drinking the night before.

![Milky, rich sundaeguk broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner-15-1c87l-900.webp)

![Sundaeguk served in a hot stone pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner-16-12bnf-900.webp)

![A spoonful of broth scooped from the sundaeguk](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner-17-vdorb-900.webp)

The hot pot was packed with head meat and sundae (blood sausage), with no funky odor at all, and the texture was tender and chewy — perfect!! Not tough at all, soft in a way that feels like eating suyuk (boiled pork slices). I usually love head meat and there was so much of it, I was one very happy person..!! I thought the portion looked huge, but somehow it all magically fit.

![Sundaeguk turned spicy with added dadaegi](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner-19-jtwmm-900.webp)

### My sister's order: pork soup

Adding a bit of the special sauce and dadaegi gives it a spicy yet clean edge that's excellent. When you mix in rice, the broth soaks richly into every grain, and I ate it down to the very last spoonful, feeling completely satisfied! My sister ordered the pork soup, and there was really so much meat in it. The portion was so generous that I ended up stealing some of her head meat too.

![A bowl of sundaeguk topped with kkakdugi](https://img.superchart.com/images/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner/pyeongtaek-jije-gyeongseong-sundaeguk-sibling-dinner-21-fs4t8-900.webp)

## A good pick for family dinners too

Topping the sundaeguk with well-fermented kkakdugi and napa cabbage kimchi cuts through the rich fattiness so cleanly — they pair so well together. When you want a hearty, filling meal, or you're craving a deep, rich broth, Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak Branch is a can't-fail choice! The restaurant is also clean with a modern interior, making it a comfortable spot for anyone regardless of age, so I'd recommend it for family dinners too. Another satisfying, hearty meal today, haha.
