These days, when I eat out with the kids, taste matters, of course—but I first look at whether it is somewhere we can eat comfortably with them. This time, our moms’ group went to Pyeonbaek Hoegwan (편백회관), a shabu-shabu spot in Janggok-dong, for the first time in ages! I had heard it had been renewed and was curious, and it felt cleaner, easier to move around, and more pleasant than before, which I loved. From hinoki steaming to shabu-shabu, Vietnamese spring rolls, the side-dish buffet, and dessert, there was so much to eat~!

## Pyeonbaek Hoegwan’s Janggok-dong location and kid-friendly facilities

Pyeonbaek Hoegwan Siheung Janggok Branch is on the third floor of Janggok Edu Tower at 8 Jinmal 1-ro, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do. It is a large restaurant occupying the whole third floor, so it is not difficult to find even on a first visit. Parking is available, and there are high chairs and a kids’ play zone, making it a nice place to bring children.

There is also an event where children can receive a gift after completing a stamp card, so that is good to know!

## A cleaner atmosphere after the renewal

The first thing I noticed on this visit was the overall clean, tidy atmosphere. The tables are spaced fairly generously too, so it did not feel cramped eating with the kids. It also looked suitable for group dinners, company gatherings, or other meals with several people, not just family dining. The restaurant is genuinely spacious and has a kids’ zone, so I strongly recommend it for families visiting with children haha.

## From hinoki-steamed dishes to half-and-half shabu-shabu broth

When you come to Pyeonbaek Hoegwan, you really have to start with the hinoki-steamed dish. Meat and vegetables arrive in a hinoki cypress steamer, and even the gentle aroma that rises when you lift the lid is good!! Since the meat is steamed rather than grilled in oil, it is nice to share with the kids, and eating it with vegetables made it feel like a healthy meal!

We got a refill of the hinoki-steamed dish and ate two trays, then had shabu-shabu with half mild and half spicy broth—and the broth was seriously so good!!! The mild one was tasty too, but especially after the spicy broth simmered with vegetables and meat, the savory depth was no joke. I kept ladling it up until the very end haha.

You can make juk (rice porridge) at the end, too, but we were already way too full that day, so we gave it up. Next time, I am coming back to eat the juk too^^

Pyeonbaek Hoegwan’s biggest plus is definitely the unlimited refills! Along with the hinoki-steamed dish, you can have as much beef, Vietnamese spring rolls, vegetables, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and other dishes as you want.

In particular, the japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) was so delicious that I went back for it several times. It tasted like homemade japchae haha. I also made myself a bowl of muksabal (acorn-jelly soup), and that was another special treat!!

The buffet has dishes that both kids and adults would enjoy, including tteokbokki, fried rice, meatballs, pasta, japchae, and French fries. It made me want to bring my parents next time, too.

For dessert, there were plenty of options including ice cream, misutgaru (multigrain powder) slushies, coffee, maesil (green plum) tea, and peach tea, so we finished with dessert and left feeling refreshed.

When dining out with children, the food matters, but so does whether they get bored, right? Pyeonbaek Hoegwan has a kids’ playroom, and as a mom, I absolutely loved that the children had a space to play for a while~! Haha. Once they had more or less finished eating, they could play in the playroom while the adults ate a little more comfortably. Personally, I thought it was a good option if you are looking for a family dining place in Siheung with kids!

On weekdays, you can have the all-you-can-eat meal for ₩17,900, which is great value! Even on weekends, I think unlimited refills for ₩20,000 is reasonable. Especially considering that you can eat many different dishes at once and get unlimited meat too, there is no reason not to come^^

At Pyeonbaek Hoegwan in Janggok-dong, I loved being able to enjoy so many things—hinoki-steamed dishes, shabu-shabu, Vietnamese spring rolls, and the buffet—in a clean, spacious setting. Above all, there is a play area for children, so I think it would be great for anyone looking for somewhere to eat out with kids.
