Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on the 2nd floor of 229 Suil-ro, Jowon-dong, Suwon. It's less a 'restaurant' than a 'home-cooking house' — and a really delicious one, so let me introduce it~

That's how well I was treated. As I get older, haha

- I love meat, but I lean toward fish
- Grilled fish that's hard to cook at home~

These are the things that catch my eye, my hand, my feet these days, so let me introduce Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo. I went on a good occasion, and my return-visit intention is very high~

### How to get there, and the U-turn to watch for

It's Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch. Not hard to find with navigation. (Remember there's no U-turn at the intersection right in front of the store — the 'no U-turn' sign is very tempting, but there's a spot to U-turn a little further up.)

It hasn't been open long, but when I asked a junior colleague who lives in the 'Jowon-dong Han X Town' area, she already knew it well. She asked how I found out about it, haha — I said I heard it through word of mouth too, haha. Anyway, it's a genuine Jowon-dong grilled fish restaurant!!

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Suwon KT Wiz Park Branch is on the 2nd floor, so you walk up the stairs and there it is. There's a ton of seating. With such a variety of seating types, it works for family gatherings, meals for two, solo dining, and office dinners — all covered!!

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo's self-serve bar has extra side dishes along with coffee, plum tea, and peach tea. My companion and I ordered the mackerel set for two.

- The self-serve bar has not just 'extra side dishes,' but also coffee, plum tea, and peach tea,
- which sets a relaxed mood for chatting quietly after the meal~

While waiting for our order, customers kept coming in. Grilled fish is clearly the trend these days. In particular, the mackerel and other fish grilled crisp over the wood fire have the fat rendered out, so they're wonderfully crispy! Look at the refillable side dishes~ It's basically a feast~

You've probably seen many self-serve bars with signs about fines or environmental fees for leftover food, but hearing that it's fine to leave food actually built more trust — I could really feel the owner's mindset, and it made me feel great!!

## Two mackerel sets, one white rice and one brown rice

We ordered two wood-fired mackerel sets. We went with white rice and brown rice. Since we were at a window seat, I couldn't get a shot of the order details.

White rice is delicious, but wanting to cut down on sugar (because of the tteokbokki and pink sausage, haha), I ordered one with brown rice!!

## Menu lineup and the 9,000-won kids' mackerel dish

Let me introduce the menu a bit. Glare made it hard to photograph, so please forgive me for using the menu board as shown on Naver Maps instead! haha

People eat a lot of fish here, but the stir-fried pork (jeyuk bokkeum) and crab set (gejang jeongsik) are popular too. One interesting thing is there's a mackerel dish for kids, around ₩9,000 — a size just right for children. I'd recommend it not only for kids but for women with smaller appetites too!

That's the full menu board — I think I photographed everything except soju, beer, and soft drinks, haha. For reference. I wanted the health-boosting set for two, but figured the portion would be too much, so we went with the mackerel set for two~ Just like you order jjajangmyeon at a Chinese restaurant, at Hwa-gan-go, since 'mackerel' is literally in the name, I went for mackerel. Next time I'll try the pork stir-fry or crab set.

## The table setting, and seaweed soup rich as postpartum soup

Here's the basic table setting. Six side dishes and seaweed soup~ The seaweed soup is amazing. It's basically 'postpartum seaweed soup.' 'Pregnancy-grade seaweed soup,' haha. Incredible~ So delicious~

We started drinking the seaweed soup before the main dish even arrived~ We definitely got extra refills of the fried potatoes, sausage, and japchae~

We also brought over some tteokbokki — it's the style you get at a snack shop near a school. I personally prefer 'traditional tteokbokki' over the instant-pot version. This tastes exactly like that. Dipping the sausage in it is so good, haha

I'm calling it a certified tteokbokki hotspot, haha. Can't forget the bibimbap either~ There's perilla oil and sesame oil, so you just mix it up. The rice is free, haha

I think this would be popular with big eaters and people with varied tastes~ Mix with your left hand, then your right hand, and you get a delicious bibimbap.

### The mackerel plate that fits the seaweed soup groove exactly

After finishing off the seaweed soup, I had a feeling that spot would be used for something. And sure enough — it was for the mackerel. Felt like the owner had some kind of foresight. Once the seaweed soup was gone, there was a groove there. A wide plate that fit exactly into that spot arrived, carrying the mackerel for two~

I think it's such a great approach. A table piled high with food is nice too, but having everything neat and tidy, with nothing to skip and all of it tasty — this level felt just right too, even a bansang, isn't it? I felt like I was treated to a full six-dish spread!

I went with brown rice, my companion with white rice. No extra charge — you can just choose.

There's a flavor choice, which is a nice feature. We ordered the regular flavor.

## How the meal tasted and who else was eating there

I wasn't super hungry going in, but I ended up eating a ton. We ate in silence, just devouring it. The side dishes were delicious, the staff was kind, and since it was fish rather than meat, it somehow felt like a healthy, satisfying meal. We were near the entrance, so we saw a lot of other customers' backs as they came in.

- Adult children bringing their parents: the most common group.
- Young newlywed couples with small children: the next most common.
- Pairs of two people: also plenty.
- Some tables had the whole family — parents, kids, and couples all together~

On weekdays, I bet office workers and group gatherings come here a lot too. Beyond grilled mackerel, there's grilled hairtail, grilled Atka mackerel, grilled yellow croaker and other various fish dishes, plus stir-fried pork and stews — so plenty of people would be satisfied. Lucky are the people who live nearby, haha. Another satisfying meal today.
