Sharing my visit and meal review from last week's trip to a favorite spot near Apsan in Daegu — Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch in Daemyeong-dong :)

## Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch: hours, parking and how to get there

This Apsan favorite is easy to find if you head toward Olive Young and Burger King — it's right behind the building everyone in the neighborhood knows as the Shincheonji building (not me, haha). I visited on a Sunday and the alley was absolutely packed with people in the classic Shincheonji Monami-look outfits 🤮

There's space in front of the restaurant for about two cars, and if it's full you'll need to look around the alley carefully. The hours were posted out front, and a nice touch — cold hutgae tea was set out too.

Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch is also popular as a hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) restaurant in Daemyeong-dong, so once you step inside there's a big group table too — this is a go-to Daegu Korean restaurant for anyone looking for group dining, company dinners, or gatherings in Daemyeong-dong.

There are bar seats perfect for solo dining in Daemyeong-dong, plus several square tables too!

During peak lunch or dinner hours the crowds can get big, but there's also indoor waiting space 👍

There was a restroom further inside, and a hand-washing spot near the entrance. Disposable aprons and a high chair were on hand too, so I saw plenty of families visiting.

## Self-bar with unlimited fried eggs, five-grain rice and gim

At the Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch self-bar, you can fry as many eggs as you like. The space was set up neatly so you can cook eggs to your heart's content, haha.

On top of that, you can scoop as much five-grain rice as you want from the rice cooker, and gim — a Korean table staple — is unlimited too.

The Cafe Dongi menu is displayed on a tablet, with a wide range of options like pork bulgogi, bulgogi, stews, jjukkumi (spicy octopus), curry, and bibimbap, plus a kids' set menu that's easy for little ones to eat.

Spoons and napkins were in the drawer on the side of the table, and there was even a country-of-origin label to check.

## Dongi bulgogi hanjeongsik set for 12,900 won

First up is the Cafe Dongi Daemyeong Station Branch bulgogi hanjeongsik set for ₩12,900. It came out as a clean, well-arranged spread as always, so let me show you the details.

First, the bulgogi came grilled with a lovely smoky char, topped with shredded cabbage and sprouts — the meat wasn't tough and had no gamey smell at all.

The soup is doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) by default, though you can switch to kimchi jjigae for an extra charge. It comes with three basic side dishes, and this set even includes omija tea for dessert to cleanse your palate after the meal.

Next up is the Dongi pork bulgogi rice set. Let me show you this one in detail too.

The pork bulgogi looked delicious just from its red color, and it was packed with onion, cabbage, and green onion for good texture too.

This set came with the same side dishes, and the soup was miyeok-guk (seaweed soup) with perilla seed — light and clean.

## Why the small tangsuyuk is cheaper as a main-dish add-on

Last but not least — Cafe Dongi's tangsuyuk. I ordered the small size, and rather than as a standalone dish, adding it to a main set gets you a slightly better price!

They also brought soy sauce, wasabi, nuruk salt, wholegrain mustard, and scissors and tongs.

As you can see in the photo, the tangsuyuk was packed with meat inside and fried crispy — absolutely no complaints.

Since I was dining with someone on a diet, we skipped the dessert snack, but you can finish with barley gangjeong, haha.

I've been to several branches now, and if you're looking for a place where every visit gives you solid, no-fail Korean food, Cafe Dongi is worth a try — highly recommend it for lunch in Daemyeong-dong or a meal near Apsan in Daegu :)
